  • Look at the saints! Richard Smallwood, Walter Hawkins, Dorothy Norwood and so many more! I love when she get happy @3:27 and @2:10 THEM KEYS!!! YES! I sure love me some old school!!

  • Where Was Dorothy?

  • Reminds me of my grandmother during the time she was teaching me to play piano for the church, this was one of her favorite song, though I still play for churches it's just not the same anymore, we use to rock the church with praise and songs, now with the adjustments that I had to make with my music to be contemporary it lost a lot in translation.

  • My, Sister Coates could sing! I'm a sixty-five year old white boy who used to scoff at such Spirit-filled singing, but the better I know my Master the more I long to join in with heart-felt music. There is indeed a place for emotion in worshiping our infinite, self-existent, loving God.

  • Who is the genleman at3:08 in the black suit and blue tie?

  • @michaelj1959 That is Stanley Keeble nevermind it ain't him until 3:30

  • @michaelj1959 That is James Bignon.

  • My God, my God, she sang this song. I just discovered this video and it has become part of my of my morning devotion. This is the kind of Holy Ghost spirit we need in our churches and homes. Then we will hear from heaven then our children and people will be saved. leah108ful

  • who is the heavy set lady @ 4:58 with the glasses and pearls?

  • @jholyghosthead Dorothy Love Coates

  • @jholyghosthead Its Rebecca Davis of the Argo Singers if I remember correctly.

  • I can't stop watching this one either, I love this song.

  • @TheHoney1965 Me too.

  • @VincenzoPickatelli...click on the show more arrows!!! God Bless!!!

  • I really like this song. You can see the spirit of God lying over Mrs. Mildred. Lord, thy God. Yes! the fine holy ghost.

  • Could someone send me the words to this........would like to introduce it to my praise team.........got the keys down but not the words.

  • I believe the other ladies are Odessa Edwards, Willie Mae Garth and Vera Kolb.

  • This is my jam right here!

  • Ms. Mildred Howard still sounds good. I was looking at an older video where she was singing a part with Dorothy Love Coates and the rest of The Harmonettes. The song entitled "Every Day Will Be Sunday" and you could tell then The Spirit was in her. This is so great :)

  • I love watching this video and Ms. Mildred . I just wonder what was the next song they sange after this one.

  • I can feel that Holy Ghost Power

  • Ok .. i wanna know where Dot was during this recording ? ...

  • Love that Fire and Holy Ghost Shimmy that Mama Mildred did at 3:25. about to catch the fire at my desk!!

  • I love this song, it ministers to me so much!

I go to one of those fancy-pants megachurches where the lyrics to songs are on powerpoint projection screens. Its a great church, but just ONCE I would love for them to whip out a hymn like this. We dont need any lyrics; wouldn't need any instruments either..our hands and feet made the music. Old time religion, don't be scared to take it back!

  • One of my mom's favorite songs. I sang it at her home-going service two weeks ago. She sang it a little bit differently. Still it means a lot to me. It takes me back to the 50's and 60's

  • This is true gospel music----no pretending and shining glory on the singer. Everytime I see this, I want to shout. This is the kind of music I knew as a child. Praise God for our pioneers of good old gospel music.

  • Glory all over her facee

  • That lady can sing! I felt like i was right there with everyone having a good time.

  • whos that lady at 0:53

  • I listen and watch this video everyday. It has become one of my favorite. The music just stirs my soul. What a great group of musicians.I like Bill Gaithers singers but they don't have anything on this great , Relevant and historic group. Billy Preston one of my all time favorite singers, I was always impressed with his keyboard talents as a child. Wonderful

  • it is a good godly song and I love it and the singer

  • I can't get off this song, either. Ou, there's something about the anointing on it that gets to you.

  • Does Anyone Know Who The Lady is At 4:52?

  • Thanks so much for re-posting this video! It had become part of my morning routine then it disappeared from Youtube and I was SICK! I was a kid growing up in the Arkansas Delta (Pine Bluff) & we used to SANG this song! Every time you would sing it you always knew that the congregation was gonna sing that chorus at least 20 times!!!! I never knew anything about Dorothy Love Coates and the Harmonettes or where this song came from but this video gave me a BIG education! This is just awesome!

  • Does anyone know who the guys on the left and right of mildred are at 3:54

  • Is it possible to get a copy of this event with all of these Gospel Greats.

  • she felt that thang at 3:25-:27 i like that, i know that feeling praise him!

  • got just what I needed this morning!!!

  • Ms, Mildred voice evapoarates her way of musical art touching souls with the spirit of

GOD. What a powerful message in the song that can definitely pull the lost who wonder what itakes to be born again. RIP Ms, Howard.

  • MY GOD, MY GOD this woman LORD, this woman was surely an instrument!

  • Is that Cassietta George at 3:15 - 3:18?? I've watch this video I don't know how many times & just noticed her, RIP

  • Does anyone have the word to this song please. I want to learn it. This is really good singing.

  • @Fulton008 I sent the Lyrics to your email :-)

  • Now this is real gospel singing....feeling what you are singing and not just singing for show. She was feeling the holy spirt. Also, you can tell that she lived every word that flowed out of her mouth....God Bless Her Soul!! I know Sis. Howard is singing in that Heavenly Chior:)

  • I think I've watched this 100 times....Mildred was " three times a lady"

  • this beautiful music makes my soul and my heart happy tears of joy roll down my face.

  • Mildred Howard waws my favorite gospel singer. I had the chance to meet her and know here. She was "the lady of gospel." Unpretenous, sincrfe, honest and all the qualities one would expect of a pioneer in gospel.

    Dr Wilbert Jordan

  • Question: CanNOT stop watching this whole series--start EVERY day with it! --thank you Min. Jimmie Rodgers!

  • This Past Summer While I Was On Vacation In NC @ My Grandma Church Goshen Disciples Church In Faison,NC Sis Fannie Rae Merritt Sang This Song!!!You Must Have That Fire & Holy Ghost, That Burning Churning Keeps The Prayer Wheel Turning,That Kind Of Religion You Cannot Conceal,It Makes You Move,Makes You Shout,Makes You Cry When It's Real.Keep Your Hand Right In The Windin' Chain,My Souls Been Anchored In My Jesus' Name,I'm Filled Within,I've Free From Sin, Lord You Know I've been Born Again!

  • I'm skeptically about religion and If God is really real, but I can see the role the church and singing played in the lives of people. Bringing a sense of community and believing in something bigger than themselves which brought hope and joy. Now that is completely awesome.

  • this compilation has shaken me to the core such a priviledge to see this

  • Oh my God I remeber this song when i was young the old folks would stomp their feet on the old dusty wooden floor of the church WOW thanks

  • many sing but if i may say these ladies are (sanging) its not the same you must allow the holy ghost to take over and like The song says it will make you move thank you for this post God Bless

  • You must have that fire & Holy Ghost, That Burning churning keeps the prayer wheel turning; That kind of religion you cannot conceal, It makes you move, makes you shout, Makes you cry when it's real. Keep your hand right in the windin' chain, My souls been anchored in my Jesus' name, I'm filled within, I've free from sin, Lord You know I've been born again.

  • Lord have mercy...where you get this from I have been looking for it so loong. today sitting at home I have stumbled on it......You go and be blessed anyone who knows about the good old songs knows this. Thanks for this.....

  • So powerful & beautiful! Wish I could play the piano like this Lady!!!

  • Look at Bishop Hawkins (@ 2:50) enjoying the spirit brought by Miss Mildred.

  • Praise God for Sis Howard, He took a jewel but left us with a blessing and a powerful message! I love this song and watching the video is even more inspirational. I watch it everyday at least twice! Thank you Jesus!!!!!

  • Yall Dont know nothing bout that Fiery Holy Ghost

  • g wat an inspiration to music,, wish i was there

  • Quick Question How come Cleo Kennedey Wasn't Singing With Them?? She Was in The Group.

  • I see Billy Preston released the organ...I guess this was out of ihs league. That's ok...He is still the star of the Organ!! Wonderful presentation. I see James Bignon in here and would love to hear something new from him....He is the James Cleveland duplicate.

  • Thank you for posting this video, it is a Blessing for all to watch and hear........ Somebody Say AMEN.................. These ladies are an inspiration for all.

  • Amen Amen Amen...So glad to have experienced the spirit..My life has never been the same..Folks look at us like were off, especially at Church, but they just don't know what their missing. I pray everyone of Gods children experience this unspeakable joyous feeling, makes you wanna dance, shout, and cry at the same time.. God Bless

  • Is the Lady at 4:58 Dorothy Love Coats ?????

  • This group is THE TRUTH! We grew up listening to these ladies thrash these songs to bits!! We had pretend church services with these recordings. We'd take turns bein the preacher, singers, and covering each other up with cloths after we fell in the floor. More than one of us had real experiences with the Lord playing church. My brother got the Holy Ghost in the basement playing church.

  • Evelyn Hardy, you better play that piano girl!! ! ! ! Let the Lord use you. That's called "GIFITING"! What a blessing to go back and hear those old gospel favorites. The Gospel Harmonettes. None can compare.

  • I love this song.I sing it....cuz i want to have it all.

  • who is that at 3:08

  • The gentleman at 3:08 looks like James Bignon... possibly?

  • Ms. Evelyn is playing that piano for all it's worth!!!

  • this is the kind of praise that I miss... this new stuff is mostly entertainment - and barely that

  • Wish I'd been there. Looks like a damn good time they're having. Brian Eno identified the reason he likes Gospel music: because each song offers hope. I can go along with that.

  • Everytime I hear this, I feel like Shouting, cause momma PLAYN THE PI-NANO!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!

  • Wow! LOVED this! Came across this looking for a song called "God's Got Everything You Need" or "He's Got Everything You Need". Regardless, I'm glad I discovered this gem. Truly gospel that "stirs your soul"! Thanx for posting.

  • Is that Vera Kolb on the end?

  • OOOOOOOOOH MY LOOOOORD!!!!! we must be got to be BORN AGAIN

  • The one in the blue suit was singin soprano.

    OMG

  • I love hearing good old ORIGINAL gospel music. Was Mrs. Dorothy Love Coates at this taping? Was she the lady at the end with the glasses?

  • WOW! She sho 'nuff SANG this song! RIP dear sister.

  • @qjc04942 does anyone know the name of the 4 ladies singing and the lady on the piano

  • @birdmark100 I know the soloist, Mrs M. Howard, passed away. I'm not sure who the other two ladies are. The guy on the organ is Hubert Pickard. He is still living and playing as well. The lady on the piano is my Good friend Evelyn Hardy. I'm headed to eat lunch with her today. She is doing wonderful. Still drives and plays the keys off the piano on Sundays. You can find her any given Sunday @ The Sixth Ave. Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.

  • RIP

  • i wish i can sign like this in my church

  • Sadly Mildred Howard went home to the Lord on July 12, 2009, She came up with the idea for the Gospel Harmonettes formed in the early 1940s & disbanded in 1977. One of the first all-women gospel singing groups to sign a national recording contract, the Harmonettes were fronted by Dorothy Love Coates (passed away in 2002) and toured the country for more than three decades. Their legacy lives on as Dorothy & Mildred's songs are still sung in churches around the World today

  • 45 years ago as a 15 year old, attended church in Concord Sydney Australia following the passing of my Mother. That night our choir sang The Lord's Prayer and my body shivered - In 1993 I made a hurried trip to Washington DC to say goodbye to my only Brother and as I drove to his home from Dulles airport I heard Mildred singing on the radio and had that same enlightening feeling . Tonight it has rained down on me again. God bless Mildred and Billy - the meek shall inherit the Earth

  • Sadly Mildred Howard, of the Original Gospel Harmonettes of Birmingham, went home to the Lord Sunday July 12, 2009 in Cincinnati, OH., where she lived for approx 5 years. Services were held for her at Trinity Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL where she served as Director of the Mass Choir. for many years. Pianist Evelyn Hardy is the last surviving member of the original Harmonettes.

  • What sector of Christianity is this? Baptist? Presbyterian? Evangelic?

I LOVE this way of praising god. I have always wanted to attend a congregation like this.

  • its baptist. i was raised baptist and though worship is worship no matter what denomination you are, it would definitely take some getting used to in terms of praising Him any other way.

  • It's Holy Ghost singing, be it baptist or what have you. It's blood washed singing. It's living water singing. It's bread of heaven singing! It's burden lifting singing! But, yes.. it's the way of the old black baptist churches... and, yes, we have the fire in us too...

  • J. Carl,

At home having church this morning! Did Sister Mildred bring it home. The pianist, she was knocking it out . . . Lawd! Check out some of the familiar faces in the video, too.

    Leester!

  • Evelyn Starks playing is so as blessed and good as it was when the girls first started singing. Love this video.

  • If only I could play like her, I'd be in heaven!

  • Absolutely wonderful!

  • FIVE STARS !!!!!

    HOW Blessed is THIS People??

Glory Be to the Most High God!!

    Thank you for sharing!

  • Praise the Lord! I'm loving this and am totally inspired.

  • A Classic indeed.

  • Who is the sister at 40 seconds to the left with the purple suit and silver hair. I've seen her somewhere before, but I don't know where. Is this a Church of God in Christ event? My mother used to take us to these events back in the 60s. We were the only white folks in the audience and Jewish. Everyone knew who we were and and made us feel welcome, and we just glowed in what everyone else was glowing in. Afterwards, I used to secretly listened to their Sunday services on the radio:)

  • That is the group's original soprano, Vera Connor Kolb.

  • So blessed! Real black gospel at its best!

  • Excellent!! Very clear. Did anyone see Billy Preston in the crowd??

  • Oh yes. Its so good to hear of God and His love, but it is so much better when you know Him for yourself. I love this song.

  • Is Mildred Howard Deceased

  • no she is yet alive and living in Ohio

  • she is old and yet she can still tear it up in ways singers half her age cant...

  • Mildred Howard is GREAT.I could not understand all the words to the song. So thanks for the lyrics to the song now I can sing along.

  • God bless you for posting this group.I have posted another group from the golden era. (The Jewell Gospel Trio, with Candi Staton)check it out.

  • because of this clip i'm subscribing to your channel. my mom used to play this song when i was a child, i'm like the poster above, i never knew all the words just sang what i thought, got most of it right. this song brings on so much emotion and meaning now hearing it as an adult.

  • You MUST have it. This song is GREAT. A lot of the GREAT GOSPEL singers are there. PERFECT. THANKS FOR POSTING

  • Is that DOROTHY LOVE-COATS at 4:59?

  • No, Dorothy didn't make this session. She had become somewhat of a recluse. There is a documentary on her life "Still Holding On" which air nationally on PBS. It won an Emmy as best documentary about five years ago.

  • Dorothy was not able to make it to this taping.

  • She is in this video. That's her at 3:39, behind Mildred Howard.

  • That is Dorothy Norwood... I think that they were referring to Dorothy Love Coates Lol! Thanks for the help tho.. be blessed!

    Elder JK Rodgers

  • DaSourcespr06 I believe is talking about DOROTHY LOVE COATES thats DOROTHY NORWOOD at 3:39

  • Born again.

  • We have a singer in our choir that sounds just Like Mildred Howard.

  • SING IT!

  • I'm sorry if I caused any confusion, but I believe I finally have this lineup correct. Mildred Miller Howard on Lead, backing (from l-r) Odessa Edwards (contralto), Willie Mae Newberry(contralto) and Vera Kalb (soprano). Evelyn Starks Hardy on piano. All of the members shown here are original members of the Original Gospel Harmonettes. Someone's question about Cleo Kennedy's absence left me uncertain, so I did some further research. Oh what a beautiful time this must've been!
