  • Ah! What happy memories these images bring back, thanks so much.

  • Very good but not many LMS

  • @vincentswift7 Hi, thanks for the comment. Sorry about the lack of LMS. I was a teenager living on the south coast of Hampshire and didn't have the wheels or resources to travel very far. I have quite a few more LMS shots but they're not of good enough quality to use on the slideshow. Visit steamweb.net for more pics

  • Great video! Lovely images. One thing that would be a little help is if you could write down in the corner what class each of them are (if you know) and what stretch of line they ore on (again, if you know)

    great vid though!!

  • @whitewingsrich

Hi, Thanks for the comment. If you would like to see captions to the images, check-out the revamped version of the slideshow 'Steam at Work'. I have only just uploaded it.

    Thanks again

    Nigel

  • @NigelKendall Will do !! Many thanks

  • Many thanks Nigel. Wonderful pictures and music. I thoroughly enjoyed both.

  • Hmm, I notice that you describe the music as being from the Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland. Surely it's the Fugue from Walton's Spitfire Suite.

  • @kapariz44 You are right about it being Walton,.

After 10 minutes it sounds like handel, then at the end is Copland. It only lasts about 2 mins.

  • Nice shots with the usual bias against the GWR. More unusual is the high content of Southern Loco's.

  • @Loaded4th

There's no biase. I was just a teenager at the time, living deep inside the SR. I just didn't have the resources to seek out GW steam before much of it disappeared - I didn't have a car!. The emphasis on Southern speaks for itself because that's where I lived.

  • thats what i call british steam

  • Fantastic, absolutely loved it - photograph skill combined with sublime subjects.

  • nice to proper trains note shity pendos and viygers

  • @andy126128 Viygers? note? :(

  • Beautiful photography.

  • Fantastic collection of photographs. 10 out of 10. I believe I may have seen many of these British engineering greats in action or on shed. For me, I consider it was a serious crime that many engines were destroyed just for their scrap value. Mr Beeching you must be turning in your grave.

  • Fabulous photographs, thank you for bringing back memories of Bournmouth holidays in the early 1960's.

  • These pics are better than most videos.

  • Thank God there were 'Steam'Buffs' around like Nigel Kendall to take these wonderful pics for posterity before our countries identity became so diluted, thanks to immigration and the EU. S**T

  • @beeman37 There is something ever so slightly racist in your comment. As the son of an immigrant I find it offensive.

  • @Northstander That was to be expected. and was/is the problem, Still too many chips on shoulders, and the reason for racism. Your parents came here no doubt for a better life than they had in their home country, If I had been in their position I would, were I able, have likely done the same. But lets not forget, The British public did not ask you to come, it was ORDERED by our misguided then, and current politicians. Even the likes of your parents are now suggesting a Stop should ensue.

  • @beeman37 Au contraire, the parent who was an immigrant came here to fill a skills gap within a British organisation, just as people are still doing. If the average (white) British citizen were prepared to get their hands dirty and not live a life of scrounging on the dole then maybe the argument to restrict entry to the UK might hold water, until they are there is little alternative to immigration, managed or otherwise.
