i'm from bulgaria and i can never understand the perfect tenses. it is hard for me. i have a problem to tell someone that i did something. what do i have to use then - i have done or i did? will someone tell me please
I think most students in the classroom would have switched off by the end of the first two or three minutes. Cool consolidation excersise with the stem sentences though.
Congratulations teacher! You teach very well! I'd like to know if you can send some videos, teaching for students in their first English class. How can we teach for people who never have seen or studied English before? Please, I'm starting to teach English and in the School I'm going to teach they want me to speak only in English in the classroom. Please help me!
Yeah! Nice lesson! I understood something! there are too many tenses in English!) But unfortunately we have to know all of them, to be understandable.
Thanks alot .. I have a question ... In one of the example you explained that "since last monday i have woken up early 4 times "(Present perfect tense) ... Can we also use it as " since last monday i have been waking up early " ( Present perfect continuous tense ) ????
@Humanitymeans YES You can also use it like that, which is 100% correct.-it all depends on what you are trying to tell people. In this video, the teacher is trying to tell us that he has woken up early 4 times since last Monday, only 4 times, NOT everyday since last Monday,he has missed some days, that is,he had woken up late. In your case,"Since last Monday I have been waking up early", tells us that you have been waking up early EVERYDAY since last Monday,You haven't missed a day till now.
In Denmark we learn English in school, so the grammar ain't the problem for me. My problem is my accent. So what me and my friends did was to start speaking English as our main language and only watch English TV. And now my English is just as good as my Danish :D so I'm happy hahah
@math110c Math110 I believe you,I have met many Danish,Dutch ,Swedish backpackers etc and have always been amazed by their English,I mean their grammar-they rock.
Hi Brian I just watched your video, and I will practice your study tip and will let you know how it pans out.. Thanks for your video lessons and may god bless you!
I got an English test tomorrow morning.. Listening and reading test.. It is hard to do the listening test cuse the speaker is always from England, I hate that accent :P the American accent is better and easier to understand, at least that is my oppinion :D
I know the rule of past perfect but when I write or fill in context I still have confusion what should I do to clear about past perfect? or all student like me.
Is it correct if I answer using simple past to a present perfect question as in "have you seen that movie?" you said that we can use simple past or present perfect in that question. Is this grammatical correct? Thank you professor.
Yep. In North America it's perfectly fine to answer a present perfect question with a past simple answer; (in fact it sounds more natural). Answering with the present perfect (eg. "yes I have seen it") is fine also. Native speakers almost always use a contraction however, so "I have" becomes "I've." "Yes I've seen it."
I understand the sentences that are written on the board, I can translate them and know what they mean, but the guy is talking a litlle bit fast and... U_U
You guys do a good job! But can you guys do some things really complicated in grammar E like what the actual english and prober E? Ex; he was dead... Is it prober E
I have a silly question: Why they are called present/past "perfect"? Where is the perfect feature?

I agree. Number 2 should be 'i have never eaten...' and ESL is english as a second language.

I'm pretty sure #2 should read: "I have never eaten pizza before I arrived."

@askadetra, if your act directly affects to the present, use the present perfect
I have broken a cup. (and therefore I can't drink tea, although I would like it now)
But if it was a single act that does not (or no longer) affect to the present, feel free to use the simple past
I broke a cup. (but then I went to the shop and bought a new one).
You should read, for example, Longman Advanced Grammar - that book explains this grammar meticulously.
(Not a native speaker)
taviskaron15 5 months ago
@askadetra If you're speaking about the past (which has finished) but TIME has NOT finished.
For example, "I have been to the gym this month ..." where your visit to the gym has finished but the week hasn't finished.

These days, I wake up early.
Yesterday, I woke up early.
The day before, I woke up early.
Sense last Monday, I've woken up early.
Before this week, however, I woke up early.
Tomorrow, I'll wake up early.
By the end of the week, I'll wake up early.
Wouldn't these make better examples? As they're simplified as they can get.
