Why do people blame religion for the rapes and other bad things that happen in our human society? These kind of atrocities are not commited by believers (generally), they are commited by non-believers. I would never rape or kill anyone because of my faith in Christ, but those who do not fear God they do not care about the other people suffering. So the crimes and abuses are commited by non-believers or atheists generally, not by believers.

Religion has also restricted people from getting medical treatment such as vaccines and blood transfusions and thus has resulted in many people death that way also. However religion isn't only thing predicting the world's end scientists believe the sun will someday become a red giant and consume the earth in about 5 billion years. Some Scientists who worry about green house gases believe it could be sooner than that due to global warming, they also worry about the atomic bomb and viruses.
In my opinion, religion was made so that people would'nt go insane. In my book, religion is good and bad. Good so that some people will have reasons to not go crazy (lol), and also think its bad because it puts fear into many people's life of doing a "sin" or anything. Just my opinion

Saying there is no god is just as irrational as saying there is a god. Before you criticize me I do want to say that you could not be more correct about religion. However, it does not mean there is no god. For instance, we may be god depending on how you look at it and if so you could say god does exists. You may even equate god to an extra terrestrial creator though one can say scientology has pretty much abused this theory. I myself am a deist who accepts all theories.

@jda379 The thing is agnosticism is not really a "belief." It relatively means not to know. You can be an agnostic but still believe or not believe. That is why you hear terms such as agnostic theist or agnostic atheists. But you can (as I do) believe that all theories are viable as long as we cannot prove or disprove any of them. To "believe" is not to have proof or evidence but do the best with what we have. What many people do not realize though is you do not need religion to just believe.

But as you mention, you believe without evidence, so this does not describe you. All theories may be viable, yet the vast majority are improbable and many are based with little or no scientific foundation. At least I can commend you for keeping an open mind.

George Bush is a professed Christian and talked about god in many of his speeches. Not sure about how religion ties into unrest in Libya and Egypt, but Khomeni used religion(islam) when he took over Iran, although not all takeover are necesarilly religious such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro.

Anyways... there are corrupt churches and there are real churches. Offerings are meant to help pay for such things as missionary trips and to support the church building and staff. Working at a restaurant probably gives more money a week than a church makes, yet the church survives by the grace of God.

@Zachisgod92 It would be ravaged with warfare, muslims vs christians vs jews... and so on. It would be a place without modern science and medicine and technology. Because when you believe that god made everything and you make up purposes through religious claims there is no need for actual study and research to really understand something. Religion is dangerous to this world it fights human progression, human intelligence and lastly... human survival.

@Zachisgod92 The world would be nothing haha. Without atheist I will admit our tech would be a little behind(around 1950's only without some stuff). Atheist didn't invent the first computers or jets. Also I want to end this "war" between religion and science(not evolution religious people can say fuck you to that all they want). To me science will lead to the future though that does not mean a better one.
Plus say atheism became the largest belief on earth in 100AD. War and death would be same

An example: if universe is expanding(proved subject), surely it must be smaller before(commonsense), must be smallest at the begining of time(Logic) The BigBang

Saying there is no god is just as irrational as saying there is a god. Before you criticize me I do want to say that you could not be more correct about religion. However, it does not mean there is no god. For instance, we may be god depending on how you look at it and if so you could say god does exists. You may even equate god to an extra terrestrial creator though one can say scientology has pretty much abused this theory. I myself am a deist who accepts all theories.

@TheFreeThinkingMan But why accept all theories? All theories cannot be correct. Why just assume there is a god or deity without at least some scientific evidence to support one? Why not take an agnostic approach to it and just say "I don't know" & "We cannot know". It's hard to go wrong there.

@jda379 The thing is agnosticism is not really a "belief." It relatively means not to know. You can be an agnostic but still believe or not believe. That is why you hear terms such as agnostic theist or agnostic atheists. But you can (as I do) believe that all theories are viable as long as we cannot prove or disprove any of them. To "believe" is not to have proof or evidence but do the best with what we have. What many people do not realize though is you do not need religion to just believe.

@TheFreeThinkingMan Yes, I completely agree on your definition of agnosticism. When you take an "agnostic approach" as I mentioned earlier, that means to be skeptic without forming a certainty. But as you mention, you believe without evidence, so this does not describe you. All theories may be viable, yet the vast majority are improbable and many are based with little or no scientific foundation. At least I can commend you for keeping an open mind.

He is wrong in the sense that he seems merely to suggest that without religion as an institution, people wouldn't have the need or the impulse to believe in a methapysical concept. The history of religion is as old as humanity, if you ignore that history and just decide that you can blame religion for all the evil of mankind, and then say that if you erase religion, the evil of mankind would disappear, you are mantaining an autodestructive view.
