  • I've had virgin broadband since it came out, and I'm a gamer. Always get a reliable connection at the speed I was promised, its only slowed down twice since it came out.

  • Check out the Press Pass Tv video "Fair Use is Fair Play"

  • sky broadband has just dropped its fair use policy,go to them...

  • @stuart38 This video is older than their LLU kit that has been put in my area recently. Take note.

  • @krazykizza what is an llu kit.i have not heard of this.

  • @stuart38 then you wont know that sky's fair use policy is not the same for people in some areas, and that sky never actually had a FUP for people in certain areas.

  • @krazykizza i am intregued to know what you mean because i thought it would be the same for everyone.

  • @stuart38 users in areas where sky do not have their own equipment installed must use BTs backbone to get to Skys gateways, meaning bandwidth is more expensive for them, thus tighter limitations put in place on users speed should excessive data gets used by a customer. Not to mention the increased pricing.

  • who ever you join you will over pay and get poor service in return internet costs nothing in reality but we pay MILLIONS for it and dont even get me started on line rental im going totally mobile, BT are a bunce of robbing B- - - - - -

  • I;m getting my full 20 meg from VM.........cant fault it,3 laptops running,Spotify running all day,daughters on Facebook.......its awesome!

  • @double531 You are on the cable network. This test is from the ADSL network

  • If you think VIRGIN IS SHIT change your isp... what are the alternatives in this fucked up london where technology forgot to come? The only operator with optic fiber is virgin or there are other operators? BT and all other ISP that use ADSL technology are also useless in my opinion

  • It was Christmas anyway dude...

I am on my PC a lot everyday but Christmas I stay as far away as possible.

  • @RandomDirectors Whos saying I was even using the computer? I got a new PS3 that christmas and it was being effected by the speed limits and lag times that they emposed.

  • @krazykizza oh that sucks :P

I know virgin really shouldn't do things like that. If they can't keep up with Unlimited packages then make them limited don't lie to your customers.

  • I can't watch videos after 4pm because t-mobiles fucking cocksucking shiteating fair usage poilicy.

  • bt do this too i wonder bt do all the britsh lines so fuck vm and bt

  • Faster than my Broadband

  • virgin mofos when will i get my upload back its 9:30pm!

  • Upload is not bad anyway! I remember VM capped me one day to 250kbps/down and 5kbps/up. YES 5 kbps upload !!!!!!!

    One way internet.

Now I'm with different provider and everything is just perfect.

  • lmao @ us the people whoa re suffering under the powerful hands of sir dick branson...

did any1 else see the vis of some poo dude gettin like 512 kbps lol mines back ontm op nearly 10mb...

i think we should stick it to the man!!!!!!!

    lmao!

  • Any users hitting this amount during peak times (4pm till 9pm) will have their broadband speed temporarily traffic managed. SO WHY DID I GET CAPPED AFTER SWITCHING ON AT 10PM AND GET CAPPED AS SOON AS I TURNED ON uTORRENT??? VIRGIN WANK@RS

  • im on bt (3) 8mb unlinated i kill it

    (300gb + a month)

yes it is slow from 5 pm to 12 pm ish 200kbs download

but apart from that its 700 > 800 kbs

  • i can't watch this causeof tmobile fair use policy ui think the fair use policy is really gay

  • avoid vm shit

  • i can't watch this video because of the t-mobile fair use policy

  • Mobile broadband has FUP?

  • yes i only have 1GB :(

  • Yes that is the allowence you pay for, 3G costs a lot more to supply so thats why you never see unlimited or high allowence plans. Also, 1GB is really not enough to watch videos reguarly, this video will set you back about 5-10mb of your 1GB... thats 1% of your monthly allowence there!

  • PPL,honestly all i read about is ppl saying bad things about virgin.i dont understand as i have the upto 20 megs and recieve around 15 to 19 all the time with upload speed at 0.7.whats happnin

  • Thats because ADSL in the UK is very bad with most companies. The connection you have is Cable, which is really good with Virgin Media

  • Not in my area ;)

  • i cant understand why i ALWAYS i have 0.13mb download and 0.37 upload ....being like this consistantly for months, supposed to get 8mb, screw aol :)

  • Same issue here more or less, but I'm with Orange Broadband, oh...and I'm not capped, they just generally suck!

  • btw its 80k now

  • I think I have both. Be* being the one recommended in my area for my new flat.

I allready have sky tv and there prices are cheap for 16mb and 8mb! DO you think this is a good choice? Or would 02 and Be definetly be better?

    -ponderer

    Thx btw :)

  • Its all what your looking for really. Sky has been known to be putting digital line managements on their customers for 'reliability' reasons - But many believe this is to save bandwidth. Be although is oumored to be reaching capacity with its current consumer base... its all what you feel is nessasary really, i cannot make that decision.

  • Good Video :)

I'm moving flat soon, and was considering virgin. Simply because of their gloating about being the best.

Was it just Christmas they capped you over? Becuase I'm a Xbox live user and would get the shakes if I was kept from it :o

    What provider would you advise?

    P.s. I'm on Tiscali 8mb. And I can't even get over 600kbps downloading :(

    -Pond

  • im on the virgin 50MB and they dont cap it

  • What would you do people if you live in Serbia... I have 256/256 (Wireless - 802.11b)... The ADSL users have max 192kbps upload... Now that's crappy...

  • I thought most in easter europe had super uper cable fiber optics. 256 sucks. But i suvived on it when i was with AOL back in 2001 for a year.

  • Nope m8 - we have a monopol of one company. No one except them is allowed to make a link out of the country, so they are the main provider... :(

  • That sucks! How come you watching YouYube then on a 256! Don't they offer any faster. We used to have a monopoly of BT over here, but new providers came in, as long is BT got their cut :/ Still i got an okay deal now, getting 4.5mbps

  • Sorry, deleted other comment on accident... yeah, hopefully things will improve worldwide for everyone.

  • I hope so to - look at Japan internet speeds... 50$ for 100 or 50Mbps... WOW... :)

  • They had their cables in first when disruption to life wouldn't be caused. Even england is lagging behind, maximum i can get is 6mbps, and get 75% of that. Soon will be 15mbps with DSL2

  • virgin do that as well

  • Virgin is on the list of bad ISP's...

    So is BT..

    google "Bad ISP's".

  • Im happy im with neither! Even with a crappy line i still get 550kb/s on Azureus.

  • could you please upload the song to a file hosting site and send me the link?

  • It is on Limewire, go to the interface and put in '`Futurama Theme Tune'

  • Note: If shapped, re sync just after midnight. Their server is quick to shap, but slow to unshap.

  • I get capped at 9 kilobytes per second. Noting the previous argument, yes nine, yes kilobytes. The speed test website shown in the video rates my capped transfer rate at 75kbps, and upload at 372kbps.

I'm getting a transfer rate of roughly twice the speed of DIAL-UP.

  • Thats Low. Also, if you have graphic proof like you say you can complain to CISAS, it should not be any lower than about 600kbps or 80kb/s approx.

  • You think 400+k capped is bad, try 80k!

Thats what I'm getting this week from 4pm to midnight because last week I downloaded 6gigs.

I fired some fucks into the twats but was told that the top 5% of their highest downloaders are automatically capped and there is nothing they can do.

It's suppost to be 8meg unmetered unlimited internet - my arse!

  • Read your contract! 80k is not their doing, more like 80kb/s thats the same as me in other words. Please under stand the difference between kilobits(512kbps) and kilobytes(80kb/s = 512kbps)

  • Who rattled your fucking cage?!

No point reading my contract, it mentions no limits of any kind.

I'm actually getting 10kB down (as reported by my router) which roughly translated to kb (one Byte = 8 bits) would be 80 which is why I wrote what I did.

Please don't assume that people don't know what they are on about, it really gets on my fucking tits!

I know one thing though, a freakin' dialup modem would be faster.

  • O Virgin Media customers. When will you learn. Whenever i was capped i always got close to what they said i was capped at. So i guess the question is back to you... "Who rattled your fucking cage?!" Try to contact Virgin Media and threaten to present evidence of it happening to CISAS (Their ADR scheme member) And they should resolve it for you. And next time.... Try not to be so dam rude.

  • I do believe it was you that jumped on me first. Your post insinuated that I don't know what I was talking about. Rather than perhaps pointing out that 80kb was low and that I could have meant 80kB i.e. 512kb, you wrongly assumed that I was wrong.

I probably sound arsey because I am, everything is so damn slow!

Either way, being capped on an unlimited unmetered connection is horse shit, especially as 5 of the 6gigs I downloaded last week was off peak during the night!

  • I hear Orange are just as bad if not worse.

  • Orange are okay if your on LLU.

  • right on brother! i just posted a vid about this. check it out. You'll love it

  • orange slovensko a.s. has some amazing speeds. just look at speedtest's global stats

  • Different country, different network and backbone system. Probably newer than the UK's thats why their technology is better.

  • Also (I am not spamming) orage is the worst customer service I have EVER had! Someone I know in london is trying to cancel her phone and broadband contract and she keeps getting cut off! when she does get through they say to speak to broadband/mobile customer service. And give her the most expencive number they have!

  • Firstly, there are many parts to virgin media. ADSL was the one this video is about, non-cable must have the worst centrals in the world, im talking in the leaky basement on the data centers! NTL business is good, but only available in populated and desired urban areas. Orange does suck. 50p/min is a rippoff for a packy, what i would do is just cancel DD and write to them also FW the letter to OFCOM and orange's ADR scheme partner, she could get some cash back.

  • Also, YOU GOT SPEEDTESTER TO WORK! We waited for about 10 hours and all it had loaded was the header!

  • I am fine with Virgin just now. We now have another line for our buissness with NTL's buissness broadband on it so if we ever go over our policy then we can use our other broadband which doesn't have the same restrictions.

  • YOU ARE LUCKY! We got cut off for a week! No internet! Unhappy ebayers! Hopeless!

But apart from that it is fine. Non cable as well.

  • Richard Branson is the anti-christ

  • Interesting tech chat guys im a bit wiser now hehe - Well my Virgn ADSL has been down for 21 days but back up now. Tech told me that it was a BT fault but i do wonder if they tell the truth. After calling the 'cancellation' line(or cust serv lol) i have got them to put me up to 2.2mb(no price increase) with one month refund a second call got me a fiver off my calls to virgin. Its better now the faults been fixed but Pings circa 60 - 110 ms could be better and day time/evening use is poor.

  • I used the term throttling but I know that's not how it works. What I was referring to was that Plusnet's gateways were becoming too congested at peak times and even their traffic shaping couldn't replace the stability of Entanet's network. Also as a competitive online gamer I refuse to have interleaving on my line and haven't ever withstood it except when I raised faults with BT, I'd rather have the occasional disconnect than increased latency, 40+ to a UK server is ridiculous.

  • Sky is bollocks in general. Horrific pings, inability(!) to disable interleaving, and speeds are a far cry from what could be achieved. PlusNet... I was with them, in my experience they were great until recently, when pings at peak times went up to +10ms (I'm a gamer, so...) I just switched to an Enta provider, and I'm impressed to say the least. Pings don't even fucking move above +2ms than normal. Maybe bandwidth gets throttled in off-peak, but that's the price you pay for a superior network.

  • Thanks must check them out!

  • check out my ntl its 20 meg ;)

  • Thats cable for ya, not like the shite where i live.

  • Ive been capped as well with no warning. The best download speed ive ever got on a 4mb is 520kb/s. Evenings when im capped it drops to 117kb/s. What happened to the promise of downloading video on demand. No way will i call tech support at 25p a minute they can stuff it. Anyone got anymore suggestions of good ISPs. Im ditching their phone tv and internet. Virgin Media crap!

  • Well Tiscali are no better either.... Id advise falcon-net part of the entanet group. Yes, they are expensive but they do promise 2mbps 24/7 because of the way their centrals are designed. They also have massive allowences for nightime downloading and weekends which are offpeak giving you 10gig a day limit. im on the £27.99 option, just given MAC code and should be all okay next week :) - If you do switch to them just say i refered you :P my name is krazykizza. :D Goodluck

  • Richard Branson - You sell out, shame on you monkey boy what secret societys are you in now?

Builderburg group i expect or mason at least. Prove me wrong monkey boy and improve Virgin Broad band.

  • uk just sucks for internet

  • sorry didnt meen to double post

  • Its ok. Jst dont go to tiscali/pipex. im on it now from VM and its worse! even with a FUP cap!!! im talking 280kbps 70ms ping

  • Anyway i went to BT and even though they have good pings on servers the download speed is a joke for what i should have 4 mb i download at 140kb...

  • Dude that's just your download medium thats limiting that and if your on the torrents thats not too bad.

  • Im not doing any torrents in peak, in-fact i wait until midnight to do my bunk downloading. I have 3 computers in my house, and a 2.5GB limit before a chance of throttling is too much of a risk. Ditch the Virgins and get a expeirenced ISP.

  • Anyway i went to BT and even though they have good pings on servers the download speed is a joke for what i should have 4 mb i download at 140kb...

  • I left Virgin Media a while back because i actually liked playing games. When i was with them i got 4478 ping on a ventrilo server with a friend that had 26 ping and a lower connection speed 2 mb (He was with BT Internet) I had the 10MB connection. For some reason every single server i joined had the same massive ping problem So i phoned them up and they didnt understand what ping was (Indians chat lines that read from a book) I explained to them the latency term and they still didnt know.

  • I have VM and long for Telewest to come back I have been with them for 7 years and had excellent service until VM started this rate capping.

  • If you live in a cabed area (with 20mb) you get a massive 3GB a day for 5hrs! on ADSL (and lower speed packages) its a poxxy 350mb/8hrs!!! (or 5%) seriously this is pathetic service. In other news im getting a letter on monday from my new ISP telling me its active! F u VM

  • Re your request for any suggestions for other providers, I'd go for PlusNet every time personally. I pay £9.99 a month at the moment (usually £14.99 a month, but 9.99 is reward for being long-term customer!) for 8mbps, and it very rarely drops below 5.5 mbps. Came with a crap USB ADSL modem, but that was a couple of years ago; bought a good wireless modem/router, and it's run like clockwork ever since. Hope that's helpful.

  • The only thing is they got a VERY strict cap. I saw on a virgin media affiliated website they had no limits on any package. On signing up process their is no AUP orFUP to be seen. Plus net is good for gaming. But it has caps WAY too low for me. Ive thought about canceling the Sky and getting 8meg for £67 thisis a truely UNLIMITED package. Thanks for the sugestion though

  • i had the same problem.. still capped today :(

  • only tomorrow you will be uncapped :) i checked MY records and it said ive only downloaded 4GB in peak times for a week. which for a FAMILY isnt bad. I alone use 60GB/mo+ today ive done 5.5GB 3films + 2 demos on ps3 and uploaded 1.4gig through the night to piss them off lol. you capped at 512?

  • yep 512..i bet this will annoy many people who play PC games online

  • i play Call of duty 4 on my ps3. no capping since! online gaming works for me with no downsides. i think it only uses about 5kb/s when in game and 2kb/s when out game. just sends server commands. most data on disk not download.

  • Thay are a bunch of swindling, lying scum bags - 25p a minute customer support, capped broadband, the list is endless.

How I miss the Telewest days...

  • your lucky. id love to be on their cable WAY bwtter than the adsl. but hey LLU is round the corner. 24megs in 6months :D
