  • Just amazing, and at his age. I'd like to see Justin Timberlake, Usher, or Justin Bieber perform try to match this. Newer performers cannot hold a note longer than the I can blink.

  • Awesome!

  • O homem é como o vinho. Quanto mais outonos, melhor. É um prazer inexcedível ouví-lo

    bacchinetto

  • elvis & karen would be proud.

  • ...I gotta say, I never appreciated Mr. Neil, as do I now. I knew he sang on many of my favorite songs and either written or collaborated on many others, until now. He was actually good at what he did, VERY GOOD. That was very impressive, I've never heard him like this before, but I will not hear him differently nor indiffernetly again...

  • This is talent. Period.

  • sedaka 1st artist to bring the 7th cord into pop music, also calender girl first color video also a first multi track vocals. lets just say kids sedaka back then was like lady gaga changing head gear?. sedaka still plays music without Lables or fame. He just loves music go see him.no cash no image just 100% music. 300 million in the bank is ok too? ok neil it helps thats all im saying.

  • Magnífico !!! ( Magnificent !!! )

  • I saw him perform in Primm Valley like 5 days ago or something. I'm 10 and who cares how old you are and what music you listen to, it's your life, you like what you want!

  • I saw him perform last night, This man is talented and still sounds the same. and he can still doing a little dancing.

  • Beautiful...

  • I love your music mr music man...

  • a man like Neil is a testiment to why people shouldnt give up a talent. both Neil and Tom jone sing with such power that for men of their age, its quite astonishing! most of todays singers haven't got that power to start with and sure wont be able to hold a note like that when they're 60 something!

  • I saw him live in Oxford late 80s,l will never forget it.Probably one of the greatest singer song writers ever.Dx

  • I guess Neil has always suffered for having a name that sounded too much like "SINATRA". I dont think his coming out has anything to do.

  • Is he in the hall of fame? If not..he should be!

  • @ilovmusic105 I TOTALLY AGREE. I am glad I saw him in 1977

  • MY KIND OF MUSIC!!!!!!!!

  • Just one look at his picture and I could tell he is an Ashkennazi. Oh yes they are very clever and talented but shame they are about to destroy the world by bankrupting us......................just wait. And yes very musical too (no I am not being anti semetic as they are not decended from real Jews and the Talmud is worse than the Koran

  • lovely song !! , my first 33 1/3 single was King of Clowns by Neil. I still have the record

  • One of the most talented song writers ever. A genius. Thank you for the beautiful music and the memories. I have always loved your music. What a talent!

  • What a talent.

  • WONDERULL SONG

  • BEATIFULL SONG

  • Whenever I watch and listen to this song I am remembering seeing Neil at American Bandstand in 1963, I think. He was very shy, and who would have known, almost 50 years later he is still going strong, and has not dropped an octave.

God, upon Neil Sedaka's conception, man, you created one major masterpiece.

  • @B52sguy You are just drama Queen. Hhahha you even signed your name like you think you will be quoted in future generations.

  • @LoveMokes If you knew anything about music, which, obviously you do not, you would know who I am: a drama queen I am not

  • I just now watched several other versions of this and this Upload is the best, to me.

Best audio - and he sounds as good as on the original record - I usually can't stand seeing/hearing singers performing their old hits. He is one artist that hasn't 'lost' it.

  • Never knew that this was the name of the game i was playing.

  • Elton John, Billy Joel, Neil Sedaka... my three favourite pianists

  • @Eltonizer How in the world could you not include Benny Anderson of ABBA in your list. I agree with your other choices, however. Burton Cummings is also one of my top 5.

    Joseph F

  • WOW. Powerful. A man and is piano singing an incredible piece of music he created. What a gift.

  • This man is not a flash in the pan but an extremely talented man who wrote so many hits for singers thoughout the ages and THEN began his own singing career. Neil you are a gifted man !

  • Even Neil Sedaka could not top this performance.

  • He's so likeable! i like this and clay aiken's version too.

  • I can relate to this song, in this point in my life right now

  • Neil is a master musician, singer, and song writer! God bless him!

  • beautiful neil...

  • If you like Neil Sedaka and his magical songs, go ahead and sign the Neil Sedak petition: w w w (dot) sedaka.be

  • Beautiful song and this voice, i love Neil!!!

  • Can anyone suggest me another similar song to this?

  • i hurt a lady i love so much...now I'm playing solitaire. a heart that cared, but went unshared

  • what a musical giant, he writes beautiful songs, but this one can only be sung by one man, and that is Clay Aiken, he does it more justice than even Neil

  • this man is a legend

  • wow there are 14 people who have no taste in music :O

  • Superb!!

  • A beautiful song but a very bad recording!

  • @effeci2007 check out the Carpenters version, much better!

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe the best song ever written...too bad the sound is so bad on this.

  • were upto 357,000:-))

  • Comment removed

  • Clay Aiken owned this song when he sang it on AI. Karen Carpenter nailed it. But the composer of Solitaire does the song in a style completely his and apart from the rest.

Yes, I had a good time. Kudos to Neil Sedaka! Thanks for sharing RazorVids.

  • @lloydcuizoncruz If the piano is out of tune it is out of tune in the whole song. But it is most noticeable in the high notes.

  • He wrote it so he knows how to interpret it. This is a different version again but rocks as much as the original - wonderful.

  • i love this song and this is the first time i have ever heard it in the original...

    I love it

  • A fantastic voice, great piano player and a sensational performer. Gifted musician.

  • A hauntingly beautiful song...

  • I saw this brilliant singer/song writer in person at his concert at Casino Rama, and

the video does no justice to the song or voice. It sends chills to me everytime I hear it.

There is another performer who could equal the performance. That artist has passed away sadly in 1977.Another song that this artist performed is Memories.

That to sends chills. That song and Solitaire are one of the BEST written songs of all time.Elvis and Sedaka were and are respectfully one of the GREATEST of all.

  • @rickitickitavish Karen Carpenter & Neil Sedaka are the only 2 that do this song justice.

  • @Coowallsky Clay Aikens sung it a Neal's 50th year celebration and it was better then any version....Neal S. told Clay it would always be a Clay Aikens song, and I think it is..

  • @midgedanny1 Clay Aiken can't hold a candle to Karen Carpenter and Richard's arrangement is the best to date. You can believe what you want.

  • I love Neils and his songs but that danged piano is out of tune!!!!!!!!

  • udah tua

  • neil sedaka one of he most underrated singer/'songer writers ever! such a great talent!!!

  • @alancw3 Totally agree with that comment , I know how he feels!!!

  • That wonderful soaring voice...he's a one-off both as a singer & a writer that's 4 sure

  • a heart that cared, that went unshared...the story of my life since my poor, poor wife of 20 yrs died 3 yrs ago 5/31

  • A very sad but a beautiful song. Love him.

    Xty`s mom Chile

  • Damn GOOOOOO!!!!

  • Does anyone have an mp3 of the live version of "Solitaire" from his 1974 concert at the Royal Festival Hall? This is the version of Solitaire you hear on the B-side of "The Queen of 1964" from Polydor Records.

  • The words of this song are so heartwrenching. One of the best songs ever written.

  • I prefer the version sung by Elvis. Thanks Neil Sedaka for this beautiful composition.

  • Elton john and macca love Neil

  • best version EVER!!

  • what a magical voice... i can feel the heart of an lonely man

  • This is the best song and songwriter!!!!!!!!!! I love him!

  • One of Neil's many CLASSICS. Sign the petition to get Neil inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! I did.

  • @NamathTheLegend - I've signed that petition! This must be one of the greatest pop ballads ever.

  • looks like it's your story

  • Not his only epic, ROK.

The Hungry Years - briliiant! Only word for it. Great music! Great singer. Great pianist.

  • What a wonderfull performance.. sadly the album version is different from this one.. this one is no doubt the best version :) really really good tune.. and i just LOVE piano music.. especially if the piano is played this way.. it´s like butter to my ears.. -

    Take care out there

  • Great song.Very passionate performance from Neil Sedaka here.

  • Aah ... lovely song

  • i'm 33 today! always thought this was a carpenters song?.... i like this version best! thordoggie i hope you find what you are looking for! i'm not religeous.. but god bless you. x

  • Neil Sedaka actually wrote the song.

  • thank you....

I AM very religious...God blessed me with the breath in my lungs...and blessed me a thousand times more to have known my wife.

Not prosletizing at all, but sometimes... consider...believe God loves us all

  • @thordoggie

Get rid of the religion myth and get a life.

  • @Kali1050 my friend, i died on the operating table twice. i've seen Jesus, He has held me in his arms. HE took my wife of 20 yrs at just 42 years old....I don't know why, but I'm not going to question HIS judgement.

i feel so sorry for you. peoploe that don't believe in a higher power think the world revolves around themselves. people like that can never make a mistake, never be wrong, are so self-centered... all that life means is "ME, ME ME!

  • @thordoggie You didn't die on the operating table. Death is not reversible.

  • @thordoggie On the contrary. It seems that those who DO believe in a higher power are the ones who believe the world was made for them, that they are the image of a supreme being and that they are part of a great universal plan. Don't feel sorry for the rest of us, we get along just fine without such delusions of self-importance.

  • magnificent artist,song and performance

  • posted it already before.....

" a heart that cared, that went unshared"

since my wife died, I've prayed for some new woman to complement....NOT REPLACE my wife....looking for another woman with different interests and hobbies...a new woman to show me adventures i never knew.

  • I just discovered Neil Sedaka yesterday and have become a fan. My music collection would never be the complete without his works. I'll go grab what I can. Hopefully all of it. Thanks for posting. Truly a great performance.

  • There was a man, a lonely man Who lost his love through his indifference A heart that cared, that went unshared Until it died in his silence And Solitaire's the only game in town And every road that takes him, takes him down And by himself, it's easy to pretend He'll never love again And keeping to himself he plays the game Without her love it always ends the same While life goes on around him everywhere He's playing Solitaire
  • God!!!! One of the best songwriters ever!

The critics never have and never will give neil the respect and accolades he deserves!!!! So I WILL!

NEIL, YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED AS MUCH TO MUSIC, IF NOT MORE, THAN MOST PEOPLE IN THE BUSINESS!!!!!

  • @thordoggie That is why he's been in the business so long. These are the classics and they will endure for a very long time. No, Neil didn't get the respect he deserves but you know you are successful when you are still around after all these years and so many people have come and gone.

  • @thordoggie ,,it's about time,,great comment, I loved and listened to Neil Sedaka in my teenage years in Scotland. My biggest thrill was attending a concert in Vancouver, finally got to see the great Neil live and what a wonderful concert it was. My date that night was quite a bit younger than I was and had never heard of Neil Sedaka,,,Neil gained another enthusiastic fan that evening.

  • my wife died about 2 1/2 yrs ago...and now i'm left with "a heart that cared, that went unshared"

    I miss you baby!!!!!

  • I can tell that you were truly blessed in your marriage...With all respect, I stand with you in your grief. This is a wonderful song to pay tribute to your late wife. Take Care

  • thank you very much.

i can't listen to this without crying all the way through, yet I guess crying sometimes is therapeutic, and mabe the best way to get through the "low" days

  • I'm sorry about your loss, sir

  • apparently he uses nlp.. loads of people say this stuck in there headds for about 6 days they said it was like impossible to get rid of

  • Brilliant song, beautiful words and lovely piano melody.

  • It must be one of thoose songs I learned to play this version on my piano in less than an hour It really pulls at my heart strings, Neil your brilliant

  • Again all I can say is "Fuckin' Brilliant"

  • YES.

  • It is a grave injustice for Neil Sedaka not to be

in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. He is truly a treasure for his more than 50 years of singing and songwriting, plus his fantastic piano playing.

  • GOD B;ESS YOU NEIL!!!

  • Tremento cantante y una canción preciosa

  • As you all have already said.

Simply brilliant. Thanks could never be adequately expressed Neil.

    Incomprehensibly great.

If he is not in the Hall of Fame -- Well he certainly is in everyone else`s Hall of Fame. Bravo!

  • Karen Carpenter, even to this date, will get so many compliments on her heartbreaking and heartwrenching version. No one could ever come close to Karen Carpenter's vocal abilities, or her intrepretration. Their single was a huge Top 20 hit in 1975...and one she didn't like. I think because it was too slow, too draggy. But one that is one of her signature tunes, after WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN, CLOSE TO YOU, RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS and SUPERSTAR...SOLITAIRE is one over greatest achievements...

  • There is no question that there are few people who deserve to be in The Hall of Fame before Neil. Having grown up with such trailblazing rock songs as "Breaking Up is Hard to Do", "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" and "Calendar Girl", I have difficulty in understanding the neglect.

  • another losing game comes to an end, and he deals them out again... I lost my wife 2 yrs ago to cancer, and I am SO lonely!!!!!

  • I know it isn't much comfort but your comment didn't fall into a void. Thinking of you

  • thank you. I know she's better off, but I'm still hurting. thanks for understanding and caring

  • I swear if they don't put him in the hall of fame before he dies I'm gonna punch some cunt. It's a disgrace.

  • sublime thank you

  • It don't get no better than this.

  • This amazing man, is behind a number of hits written for other people and wrote some lovely songs in the 70s too.

I've never heard this version and for me, the first version I ever of this, by Andy Williams is my favourite, although I also Love Karen Carepenter's version, who wouldn't?

  • Type in Karen Carpenter and SOLITAIRE and read the hundreds of wonderful compliments people gave to the silky voiced contralto...her voice was just equisite...

  • Gorgeous!

  • what a beautiful songwriter and piano player~

  • Thank you Peter, this is a very sad & touching song. Glad you didn't send me the one, "breaking up is hard to do" great!

  • very nice song.. he's timeless..

  • Well, the gorgeous and talented norwegian girl Sissel Kyrkjebo also have done a very good version of this song.

  • Both of them are brilliant singers, Karen Carpenters and Neil Sedaka. They both did a good job on this song. Don't think you can compare one to one 'cause they're both different in styles and emotions.

  • Karen Carpenter did a very good version of this song.

  • I really love this song....so touching!!!

  • so nice so touching....beautiful song !

  • I can't believe this wonderful singer/songwriter said Clay Aiken sang this song better than he. Mr. Sedaka, every song you have written and recorded is yours. No one will eclipse you.

  • Nada ni nadie se compara con KAREN CARPENTERS.

  • A wonderfully talented man who belongs in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame.

  • I hope He will return to Manila Philippines Again ...

  • Effortless for him.Amazing.From an Elvis fan.

  • 23tbob, SO SORRY to hear your mother passed away... prayers... Sadly, I also had lost my dad when I was 15, am now 44; and I lost my mother in 1996, I MISS them both horribly to this day... know that She is smiling down on you... '

this is a Truly beautiful song by Neil, also done by the Carpenters and amazing as well with Karen's "haunting" vocals... miss that voice, too...

  • He had a Mum, who believed in him.

Where are you?? Future Mums. Not the Idiot Dad's of such has young Michael Jackson..

  • I had the good fortune to see him in concert here in "OZ" during the late 70's &80's. What a talented artist he is. . .

He just keeps getting better as the years roll on.

Thanks for posting, it's brilliant !!!

  • This is the music I will ask to listen when I shall be near to my last passing moment...

  • My mom died today, same day as Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett . June 25, 2009. So that will be easy to remember. I've been listening to this song a lot lately as my mom went downhill - so SAD, so GREAT! A guy and his piano -- a classic for the ages.......

  • Of all Neil's many great songs and the many different moods they provoke, this has to be his masterpeice

  • when's neil going to perform "you're so good for me" with dara on stage @ the royal hall?

  • Comment removed

  • one of the greatest ever....so much emotion and truth in his music!!!

  • who writes music like this anymore? no rap star, no thrash band. true talent and heart here my friends!

  • Wow! As a child I thought this was a lovely song when performed by The Carpenter's. When Clay Aiken performed this on AI and Neil said he had lost his song forever to Clay, I absolutely became a fan of this song. Watching live and on video Clay performing this song was awesome. Especially the 50th Anniversary NS Tribute. Watching Neil Sedaka perform it was the best. The only thing that can top this is Neil playing piano while Clay sings.

  • In time, Neil Sedaka wil be one of the worlds greatest composers.

    Best of all time!

    JF

  • OMG my mom is losing her mind and this is what i have left

  • momentos de mucha nostalgia hoy en el ocaso de mi vida agradesco todo lo vivido escuchando y viendo a este gran artista saoc

  • I really hope there is a mDVD out there with Neil live @ Royal Albert Hall.

  • Wow!! You just can't beat the Original! This is better live than recorded!!

I like Karen Carpenter also.. but this is more wonderful..

  • I've heard this song done by him quite a few times, one from the 70's, one from the 80's, and now this one, and He hasn't lost his voice or talent!

It's so clear, it just grips you.

  • Listen to Solitaire with Neil Sedaka and Sissel Kyrkjebo, the woman with a voice of an angel. Neil himself is stunned!!

  • wow

  • Such a beautiful sound :)

  • beautiful. i would love to hear him do a duet with his daughter Dara to this song

  • Very very nice!

  • A timeless masterpiece by an immortal maestro.....
