  • Would you just pull part of the steel will off and put in next to the fire materials?

  • @cooliocapeboyie24 Sure, you could do that. Or, just temporarily use the whole lit steel wool pad like a match and hold it to your kindling materials. What I never mention in the video is... the more you blow on the steel wool the more vigorous the sparks it emits and the longer it stays lit. It will go out without constant blowing or battery contact.

  • So do you need to poke a hole in the battery ?

  • @qqoify No. Why would you do that? You're losing me.

  • @peaps cuz wat if ur lighter got wets then what or u run out of fluid

  • just tried it if i go camping again im putting this in my survival kit

  • Look at my vinteo...plz!!

  • Yaay learned this in 5th grade

  • Matches and lighters aren't easy to light in wet conditions, whereas the steel wool and battery does the trick in dry AND wet conditions, without having to try several times. If anyone I know goes camping, I'll be recommending the steel wool and battery.

  • @rachelchunter ... You get the idea!! Thanks for the view.

  • @fatherPANIC besides steel wool and lighter, you can use magnifying glass(luv) to catch the sunshine to burning dry leafs. i used to do it when i go camping. btw, nice video

  • @gensterize ... Yes. Magnifying glass works good. Takes a little longer, and you better hope it's sunny out. :-) Thanks for the view.

  • but... will it blend?

  • :O

  • I saw this on Dual survival

  • although very cool. why not just take a lighter. if you remember the steal wool you should remember a lighter

  • @zacage10... Please read the text @0:02, then under the video in the description box... yeah... read that, too. Thanks for the view.

  • @zacage10 it's a god damn tip dude...

  • Man if i don't have a lighter with me i just use the 9V battery and the steel wool i always carry around!

  • That's legit!

  • I remember this! i think i've seen Bear Grylls did it

  • Wow I never knew that!!

  • Got it from man woman wild good show =-)

  • my friend did that in my electronics class and he didnt even notice it was on fire.

  • Nah... its patched.

  • EUREKA!!!!!!!!

  • When I go camping I like to stay in a Hotel.

  • good idea!

  • If you're going to the effort of getting steel wool and a 9V battery, why not just buy a lighter instead? Answer me that.

  • @peaps Because it makes cool sparks

  • What perks do you use?

  • @iilordhunter Ghost all day.

  • To those wondering how it works: When he touches both terminals with the wool, current flows from the positive to the negative. This flow heats up the thin metal so much that causes sparks and therefore, FIRE!

  • when I go camping I don't play with battery's trying to make fire, I just take flint and steel

  • good i watched this video :D

  • There is a better chance of me having a lighter in my pocket than a battery and some steel wool....

  • Does this work for every kind of battery

  • @TheChrischain45 @TheChrischain45 Depends. The higher the voltage the better. That's why I use the 9volt...plus the terminals are close together. You can use different batteries but you may need to stack/combine the batteries to have sufficient voltage. For example, stack 3 or 4 AAs as if they were in a flashlight... then stretch the steel wool out to be able to touch it to the positive(+) terminal on the first battery and the negative(-) on the last. Not sure what the minimum voltage is.

  • This is amazing!! Imma hav3 to try this n3%t camoing trip, and amaz3 3v3ryon3!!! Th% for th3 h3lp!! ;0)

  • will it work in rain or bad conditions?

  • @theleakingpipe25 Yes. Windy, rainy, snowy.

  • @MrNiggakilla your a racist beacause of your name

  • is that like a brillo pad?

  • @chicksdigmy12in

Yeah... but brillo is too coarse. The thinner/finer, the better.

  • @fatherPANIC can you use anything else?

  • Sparks = Fire?

  • @Beatelectrico

Sure does. Your lighter sparks to make a flame. Same with your grill, stove, match, flint. All depends on the proper fuel/kindling.

  • lighters dont allways work, neither does disrespect when you absolutly have to kill a terrorist before they kill you. you must enter all missions with the proper tools and other ways to get the thing done if those tools break or get lost. get it. not every one breathes god earth in natural time while commiting a legal crime.

  • @MrNiggakilla well see mr obama killer i like your name. but just cuz you hog all the batteries for your ass dildo dosent mean that this steel wool guy isnt coming over to pull a chashire invasion on your ass now because of your un cool words towards science, see i am a vigilantie, i fuck over any one when i see a certain thing about them that needs to get fixed. im like a type of mother that can never get arrested ?! go figure, oh are you ready to die ?

  • does it work with a lighter?

  • @IgotAhighkd i have no idea

  • But will it produce enough heat to set on fire something else?

  • uuuu..i have never seen thet dude!!...great!!..

  • @MrNiggakilla uh well maybe this would come in handy if you dont have a lighter with you dumbass

  • @MrNiggakilla idiot

  • @fatherPANIC snap.

  • I've seen Ray Mears use this method, seems a pretty effective method

  • Note to self: Carry battery and wool in different pockets.

  • @powershower dude he said sparks NOT fire

  • @Smilezofdoom actually the title says fire

  • wtf? thats not fire

  • This saved my life once when i got lost in the woods. I came across this huge battery and steel wool tree.

  • awsome!!!11112

  • thanks i've been using this alot :) a good tip, works great!

    OpTic

  • kewl can i use an aaa batury?

  • I just designed a new gun mechanism "Steelwoolbattery lock"

  • @XXCharlesxxXXxx

Surprisingly... just the slightest hint of a charge left in the battery can cause a spark. Perhaps, maybe enough to start a fire depending on the kindling used (i.e. fine sawdust, lint, cotton fuzz from your socks, etc.) Obviously, it's always a good idea to have fully charged batteries with you when camping, hiking, etc. Not charged = dead... which means it will not work.

  • @newtonttesla yeah it can. U just have to be able to

Make a fire from just sparks which anyone can do

  • i will use our stealwool from our kitchen xD

  • 119 people are dumb

  • if Bear Grylls approved this, ill follow it with no doubt

  • @kahunass

    Survivorman does.

  • @fatherPANIC survivorman is magicman

  • @fatherPANIC Yeah, and survivorman would actually survive in the wild.. i seriously doubt that Bear Grylls would(All he does is eat disgusting stuff and take unnecessary risks.).

Anyways, nice trick.. will definitely remember this one! :)

  • the battery with that cannot create fire, you just play with sparks... so if you get bored in camp just play... i have discovered already before...

  • AWESOME!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 9 ppl never went camin

  • Thanks

  • wtf ?

  • Dont do it in school!

  • Why not use flint and steel or a magnesium starter I mean those won't run out of power like a battery

  • @rockinandout These stuff are easier to get than a magnesium starter and can be used for ordinary camping. It's just a matter of convenience.

  • ...(part 2 of earlier comment)... Sudden doom can happen to anyone, and it has...every year someone decides to "take a shortcut" that ends up being a dead end or worse, and their SKILLS and WILLINGNESS TO THINK ON THEIR FEET and IMPROVISE is what saves their lives where other people would never even think that far ahead, thus ending up premature food for the WORMS...before you ridicule someone's demonstration, question your own sense of preparedness on a daily basis FIRST!

  • To the people asking "why not buy a lighter", a novel concept: sometimes people end up nowhere near a store when they most need one! I'm not talking only about back-country hiking trips, but also about family winter car trips gone awry and that kind of thing -- situations where being able to keep a fire lit no matter what (like what if your lighter falls apart, your matches are wet, or you just plain forgot) -- can save your life if you have no other tools at the time. Sudden doom can happen to

  • i actually liked it, cool

  • Steel wool $5 battery $1....a cheap ass lighter....99 cents....

  • How effective is this if you rap a thin layer of steel wool around a cotton ball, does it burst into flames rapidly ?

  • save 27 seconds of your life 0:27

  • Cool

  • its cool that you know that... i remember figuring this out a long time ago and always thought it was a handy thing to have. though i noticed you didn't mention taking off some and spreading it out.... because that helps tons. peace

  • Or You Could Be A Normal Person And Buy A Lighter

  • @jasminelamjl16

Hmm. Never thought of that. Thanks for the view.

  • @jasminelamjl16 sorta hard to do if your not 18...

  • Comment removed

  • @jasminelamjl16 hhaahhaahhaha!

  • @jasminelamjl16

i wish there were stores out in the middle of no where v.v. i guess i will buy it from a tree or if i do stay in a town after a catastrophe i can just dig through rubble to find one or buy one from a rat in the sewer or an abandoned building....yeah yeah.....we never thought of that one.

  • Hey here's an idea why not just buy a lighter?

  • i done this in my science class

  • nice... i knew you do this with some steel whool a car battery and jumper cables but didnt know about this

  • maybe you can take the wool out of your head

  • I'd rather just use a lighter but it still is cool

  • im sorry but theres a very dumb point u said. u said you bring them every time u go camping. well why do you do it the harder way when u have the chance to have very good way? you set up for the camping at home and you dont need steel wool. btw 100% of ppl who live in homes would rather have a lighter than steel wool and a battery. consider camping like a human not a frikin sciensetist.

and i bet you will say thanks for the view cause check your replys. pathedic

  • @joseph4445

Look up the meaning of a contingency plan. What happens when your matches get wet? What happens when you rely on a lighter which may get wet or, perhaps, the flint pops out or jams? That's when the contingency plan goes into effect, aka, steel wool and a battery. Thanks for the view, Joseph. Oh, it's patheTic, not patheDic.

  • @fatherPANIC ur so predictable

  • @fatherPANIC what is same thing happens to steel wool and battery. what is steel wool gets wet and what if battery is dead.

  • @joseph4445

Joseph... learn to read. Read the intro ON the video @0:02. Then read the description UNDER the video.

  • @fatherPANIC but its kinda slow way to start a fire. it will take like 3 min to sart the fire with that

  • @joseph4445 only if you suck at lighting fires....... stop while your behind dude.

  • @joseph4445 and by the way.. the most traditional and most highly used survival/camping gear includes.. READY??? flint of some sort, and steel. weird huh? no matches involved.....

  • @joseph4445 He freekin said the wool would still work when wet,and you should know if the battery you have is dead or not. Common sense.

  • I like it it's a good way if you don't have a lighter

    It look cool too

  • SWEEEEET

  • u can make sparks with a 9 volt battery and scissors

  • i never knew this thanks

  • Steelwool FTW !!!!

  • i already new it and thats the easyest thing ever

  • Comment removed

  • Darn, now i know why "Ace" campers have steel wool on their bags!

  • good to know. Thanks

  • This is a tip for those who backpack, camp, hike, etc? if people the backpack, hike, etc had a brain cell they would have the common sense to carry a lighter or a camping flint!!!!! they are more useful than spending £5 or whatever currency u use to buy a £1 lighter or save up £15 ound for a flint you can reuse for years to come instead of a 1 time use ball of steel wool.

  • @plasm2 dude, the lighter is always on the backpack, but you never know.

  • @plasm2

If you think steel wool is a one-time-use item... then you need "a brain cell." Thanks for the view, MATE.

  • @fatherPANIC so you can reuse that same part that uve just used?

and im not you MATE. still its another convienient way to start a fire.

  • @plasm2

    Reuse = Yes.

Try it before you assume. Believe me... this method is much faster than striking flint.

  • Thank you. I would have never thought of that. If wet would be no problem either, shake the steel wool and go for it. Excellent.

  • steel wool comes from chuck norris's pubes

  • its way easier to buy a liter than all this shit

  • @TERMIN8TORT800

Thanks for the insight. Thanks for the view.

  • @TERMIN8TORT800 Lighter* lol

  • How u get steel wool? I guees u gotta cut steel sheeps?

  • great tip never thought of that :-)

  • so where do i get the wool if im at the middle of nonewhere

  • @thatsgangsta89

Read the intro text on the video.. also, read the description under the video.

  • can this work if the steel wool or the batterry is wet?

  • @LAggy123123

Yes. The battery doesn't retain water. The steel wool will. Give the wool a few shakes.. then proceed.

  • If I wanted to create a small shower of sparks would I just do it quickly? does it work like that?

  • @helloimelliott

If I'm understanding you correctly... yes. Rub the battery really fast (back-and-forth)over the steel wool. You could also try pulling/stretching/forming the steel wool into a rod-shape. This will concentrate the battery charge to a smaller area, resulting in a greater effect.

  • @fatherPANIC

    thanks

  • that was really smart

  • whoooah sick.. wish i could get some steel wool

  • im gonna sub

  • commonly used in homemade bombs.

  • i did it and it worked thanxs alot i can light a candle with out a lighter

  • oh god. I blew in my monitor :(

  • could this light a fag or somthing ? cos im out of matches lol

  • works

  • genius

  • Would this work if a put an electfied copper wire onto the wool?

  • Comment removed

  • @foreverlinaxo if your going to coppy spam dont coppy their names and the time they put it their

  • whats steel wol??

  • can you use wires ??

  • why would u take a battery and steelwol, a lighter less expensive and twice as small

  • @AndreasDreher69 It doesn't look as cool when you're out camping with your buddies.

  • @Wolf23248 yes, it's very easy to find steel wool and battery, like I have millions of them lying around, just reach out and gra one of each component. I bet he can get all the pussies in the hood while showing this method. LOL. It's all about coolness not functionality/availability.

  • does the battery need to be charged?

  • @darthboy7882

    Fully charged = No

    A charge = Yes

  • shhyyt man instead of fuckin lighters and matches am bringing that shit to school =]

  • me done that so many times

  • Wow that's awesome, I'm going to try it now lol.

  • @VinceXNoir666

    *use caution*

You didn't hear this from me.. but if you stretch the steel wool out, light it with the battery, then start swinging the lit steel wool in a circular fashion.... the outcome has a spectacular man-made pinwheel firework effect.

  • @fatherPANIC lol use caution ...lol
