"Instead of polygons, Unlimited Detail's system uses dots - billions of them - to create a "point cloud" representation of a virtual world. By selecting one point for every pixel on the display screen, it's possible to create an exquisitely detailed 3D snapshot in much the same way as a Seurat pointillist painting. Change the selection several times per second and you can move smoothly through the virtual world." (NewScientist)
@lquert This production is not a video but a running program, more like a game then a film. they make it by writing alot of C/C++ code (my guess of language) interfacing with DirectX or OpenGL.
Its a part of the "demoscene" where groups make these productions usally on spare time and them compete against eachother during a weekend of boozing and coding.
There is also sub-categories where a production in total, with textures, music and 3d-models can not be bigger then 64kb or 4k
@lquert You don't get it. It's not a video. They did not use video editing software like After Effects or whatever. They have programmed the particles. By hand. They did not take a video. It's pure (high level) machine code.
@moejoe1337 aaahhh hehehe sorry my ignorance.... hehe... i thought it was a computer program... i better learn more about this, cause i do 3d animation, and i know a little bit of it.... but i dont know a lot... u can check my channel to see my videos if u want to... thank u again... for the information... :-)
@mormonpoo It's a remix of a Socrates/Vangelis track called "Queen of the Universe". There's a copy of that here on YouTube, but it won't let me post a link!
This demo blows my mind.

Pretty neat. And probably state of the art coding. But not as mindblowing as i'd expect a first place to be.
