that is why the ps2 isn't that great, it really doesn't take much to make it overwhelmed while it is doing alot at once where as the dreamcast always had more consistent frame rates, games were way more colorful than that of the ps2, and the DC was just all around more of a gamers machine than ps2 and almost everyone can agree with me there except for the haters, if i wanted to play dvds stuff like that i'll buy a dvd player not buy a ps2 to play all the above, thats usually the argument nextlol
i know they are a really good gaming machine and the only ones that disagree are sony fan boys and haters. i like all gaming consoles, but dreamcast is just one system i hold deer to me because it got me into the next gen of gaming and it was awesome, had a way way WAY! better launch than sony with awesome games, and on top of that it was easier to make games for because it's main technology on the board was microsoft so developers loved that, ps2 was horrible, emotion engine was a bad mistake.
the LOD was worse in the ps2 lol emotion engine was horrible, bad programming peace of hardware. at least the dreamcast games looked and played well at first compared to the ps2 where everything just looked a step up from ps1 dreamcast was on a totally different level...a better one at that.

true but the ps2 still couldn't render for crap, like the Dreamcast could, ya sure the ps2 could run 10 million polygons a second but they never had any games that could do it because the hardware is not that good and programming is a bitch, some games were done rather well, mgs 3 ff 12 GT4, to name a few, but the dreamcast could run at a consistent rate of around 7 million polygons a second with full bump mapping and good texture with a 128 bit engine, that looked and played better than the ps2
I love my dreamcast. I have Blue Stinger, NFL 2k2, Quake 3 Arena(has Online, while the PS2 doesn't), Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, WWF Attltude, as well as Street Fighter 3rd Strike. Blue Stinger feels like Activision got lazy.
If the DC could have played DVDs then things may have been a different story. It had online functions (like you said) and a broadband adapter. It had a VGA cable/adapter that allowed you to connect it to a PC monitor (or HDTV) for better a picture. DVD play would have made it as good as the xbox. Microsoft may have decided to team up with SEGA in terms of the online service as the console was compatible with Windows CE. Then maybe the DC would have continued we could have had Shenmue 3.
To give further details, DVD players at that time (1998-1999) were very expensive. Equipping it on Dreamcast would be about USD 600,00 instead of the intended USD 300,00. When Playstation 2 was launched, its success was due to its DVD capablity and the fact it was the cheapest DVD player.

well it was........you can compare a few games since they were made on both systems. ex, lets take unreal tournament. this game killed it on the dreamcast, you had online play, the frame rate was more consistent, like when shit was exploding all around you and there was like 10 guys in one area it wasn't as bad as on the ps2, trust me we played hours of both, dreamcast version is 10x better. then there is DOA 2, better textures, colors, way faster load times, grandia 2.....terrible on ps2 yuk.
Not really. Games like Ferrari F355 Challenge can be easily compared to GT4 even thought it is a 8 years-old game. Playstation 2 major weakness is its GPU that cannot handle texture compression and full colors. It cannot fully support 640x480 so most game are low res compared to majority of Dreamcast (excluding some port from PSOne games).. Look Gran Turismo 2 on both PS2 and DC: the latter look so superiour it is embarrassing.
Please check out Ockman27 who has recently published three full length live action movies of Shenmue and the third is the original imagining of the story conclusion. Fan movie done with excellent acting and direction and camerawork, not to be missed fan movie with humour and excitment and hollywood special effects too. All the main Shenmue characters interact in this funny and nostalgic epic.

This is the problem though for 3. If they did make it, should they stick with graphics from 1&2?Or more modern day standard graphics? PPl now would see the old graphics and not buy it, but modern graphics would imo, ruin the feel of the shenmue world. Its a double edged sword.

Shenmue 1 should be re-released on Wii while Shenmue 3 should be on PS3. The book is like 12 chapters long, so the game will require a Blu-Ray disk to put all 9 remaining chapters on it.

Uh, what? I've never had difficulty with the Wiimote-Nunchuck combo, which BTW is vastly superior to the traditional game pad for many genres like first-person shooters, third-person shooters, real-time and turn-based strategy, P&C adventure games, etc.
Sony and MS went with the "same old safe" model, which is fine for some games, but come on - there were better standard controllers out on the PC 10-15 years ago. Thank God at least one console company still takes gaming innovation seriously.
...That being said, yeah, it would've been nice if the internal hardware was more advanced. Especially since Nintendo is actually making money on these consoles. lol.

Can't wait to start Shenmue II, but the feeling is still stong here on Youtube. I want it to last forever. Sega must realise that the saga must be rereleased on Wii/360/PS3 before it again has an audience to justify the huge production cost of Shenmue III.

Yeah, just what we need: A rehash of an awesome game that sullies the name of the original with God-awful motion controls. I own a Wii, but there's no way in Hell that motion controls belong in a Shenmue game. Also, not to sound like a graphics whore, but Shenmue deserves to be on a console that can only expand upon the graphical awe from the originals, and Wii just wouldn't do that well enough.

This is the problem though for 3. If they did make it, should they stick with graphics from 1&2?Or more modern day standard graphics? PPl now would see the old graphics and not buy it, but modern graphics would imo, ruin the feel of the shenmue world. Its a double edged sword.

Shenmue 1 should be re-released on Wii while Shenmue 3 should be on PS3. The book is like 12 chapters long, so the game will require a Blu-Ray disk to put all 9 remaining chapters on it.

OH GOD PLEASE NO !!!! DONT LET THIS HAPPEN !!!! Shenmue was grounbreaking 10 years ago. No one had EVER seen anything like it. The Wii is last gen hardware, its just not powerful enough to being Shenmue to a new generation. Come on Sega, get this released on a decent current gen console, not some crappy kids console with a near useless control system. I love Shenmue with a passion, but I will not be buying this crap !!!

Uh, what? I've never had difficulty with the Wiimote-Nunchuck combo, which BTW is vastly superior to the traditional game pad for many genres like first-person shooters, third-person shooters, real-time and turn-based strategy, P&C adventure games, etc.
Sony and MS went with the "same old safe" model, which is fine for some games, but come on - there were better standard controllers out on the PC 10-15 years ago. Thank God at least one console company still takes gaming innovation seriously.

Can't wait to start Shenmue II, but the feeling is still stong here on Youtube. I want it to last forever. Sega must realise that the saga must be rereleased on Wii/360/PS3 before it again has an audience to justify the huge production cost of Shenmue III.

And if they make a huge profit out of all of these they'll probrably do shenmue 3 ( which they should work on first before all those othere games i've mentioned)

Are you kidding? The PS2 was the SNES of its generation. Even the gamecube was better than the Dreamcast. Shenmue is my favorite series, but that doesn't make an... okay system the best. Blame the series failure on Sega alone.
Making the sequel exclusive in North America on one of the worst system of all time, the original Xbox, sure didn't help either.

In a forum I went to, it said that Swedish game magazine GameReactor said that Shenmue 1 and 2 were being ported to the Wii. It is pretty hot news, it is on the front page of the Shenmue Dojo fansite, and the article is in the Shenmue Wikipedia article. It is all over boards across the net. If this is true, and it sells well, Shenmue 3 might come out.

Yeah, just what we need: A rehash of an awesome game that sullies the name of the original with God-awful motion controls. I own a Wii, but there's no way in Hell that motion controls belong in a Shenmue game. Also, not to sound like a graphics whore, but Shenmue deserves to be on a console that can only expand upon the graphical awe from the originals, and Wii just wouldn't do that well enough.

If they're not going to release a 3rd game, then the least they could do is make a manga. I mean KH has both games and a manga, I mean come on now. Shenmue games are very long, have a lot of filler scenes, and action-plot scenes that would fit perfectly in a manga.
