I only knew this song as a comical minstrel song sung by Uncle Dave Macon who got it from black faced minstrel musicians as "Jordan Am a Hard Road to Trabble." I have no idea where this text comes from.
I saw em on this show and was blown away. Fantastic live band and so different to everything else in the music scene. Check out their live DVD. Brilliant.... and god bless Jools Holland. Where would the relatively new alternative bands be without him to showcase their talents.
I first heard of them a few weeks ago when I saw them at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. They were a highlight of the festival for me! Thanks for the great videos of them.
They didn't play Jordan at the junction in cambs either... even after two encores! They were fantastic live and I really want to go and see them again!!!
u may have seen them in towersy... but i saw them in shrewsbury the same weekend!! lolz, did they do it at towersy without sam? coz he was at shrewsbury playing with kefuffle lolz- and i know- THEY ARE THE BEST!!
I've never been sure about Rachael's vocals either but listening to the album today I've decided her stark discordant voice does work with his and with the songs
Dude, you need to have a word with yourself as you are obviously batting for the wrong side. Saw these last night at Cambridge Folk Festival, they are the best band I've seen in years. Love the dude laying the dub bass lines on the tuba - awesome!
Hey these guys are playing at the Durham Brass festival in July. Check it out! Brazz Brothers, Boban Markovic, Dennis rollins, Orkestra dal sol and loads more.
This would have been better if the BBC sound team were any good, dont do bellowhead justice they are the best folk band around IMO.
Would have liked it if the had done jack robinson or sloe gin or fire marengo instead of london town, not one of there best i think, still amzing simply cos its bellowhead.
when i watched these guys at bbc radio 2 this year (2011) they were amazing, one of the best acts of the day.

what you rather watch - musicians or popular music?
Everyone on Jools has got talent
remeber that when you slag them off

Jools Holland generally has a load of rubbish on his show, but this lot are incredible.
As a long time, ardent fan of Oysterband, how could I not like another quirky, very English folk band??

This lot really are the 21st century answer to Steelye Span, aren't they. Taking folk music to where it's never gone before. Hooray!

Not at all my cup of tea, but when I saw them last night at Jools Holland I was blown away.
Genius.
This group should instantly rise to stardom.

I asked Boden at the end why they didn't play Jordan and he said they couldn't fit all the songs in and some had to be left out :/
Shame because it is one of my favorite songs along with dragon's teeth and trip to bucharest.

A strange distinction to make - I've heard they're from Oxford which is in England & Britain :~)
Musically I don't hear a lot of bagpipes in purely English folk, so I'd class them as part of the wider modern British folk scene.
