To Y2YAY, I saw Real Genius in the theaters, and no, the chair scene was not included in that version. I remember specifically as my friend Sean and I were disappointed when the film ended to not have seen that joke play out. As ten year old nerds though, we got a boatload of laughs out of Kilmer and boners out of Meyrink. Never noticed til now that Vilmos Zsigmond was the DP.

I just wanted to add that it was a very funny scene to cut out of the movie and very memorable too I might add. I was always shocked to see that part cut out of sixteen candles and I wonder why?? it is also the reason that long duck dong has a black eye when jake comes to the door. but as I was saying this balloon chair scene may have been cut out of the home video version. I can't say because I didnt see real genius when it was in theaters. but I've seen this happen a few times with other films

I wonder if that balloon scene was in the film when it played in the theater? I've seen films where scenes were cut out after they get released on home video. like sixteen candles when long duck dong was found out of the tree and tells grandma about the car being totalled... she kicked him in the face but that was cut in the home video version she just opens her mouth in shock and it cuts off to the next scene... but I remember in the theater she said "why you" and kicked him in the eye.
