  • what kind of tea is best?

  • We mix the sweet tea with moonshine and/or Jack Daniels where I am from down in Florida.

  • thanks man this helped me out a lot

its gonna be some good tea

  • Skeet skeet

  • that's badass you drink it out of a jar. good vid im gonna make me some

  • HOW TO MAKE SWEET TEA

    TEA BAG

    HOT WATER

    SUGAR

    MIX

  • i've always made "iced tea" like this and people think it's so weird... i live in newfoundland and the only iced tea i can find here has all this lemon or orange stuff in it and it tastes SO bad hahah so i just started making it myself the way i usually make tea! tastes SO good, i think i was from the south in my past life;)

  • Finally I can make some more tea! Your a life saver!!!!

  • "i dont want my tea bags to bust" haha

  • thats how i make mine...but you gotta use luzianne tea it makes the best

  • Thank you for this I love sweet tea

  • Oh heck some folks don't want to let the South own anything.

  • awesome! i actually made my first thing of tea because of this video, thanks

  • what kind of tea are you using? black tea? or green tea? does it matter?

  • moving down to south carolina in 4 years. got a house in palmetto dunes. Hilton head island is where its at! im takin this along and drinkin it on the beach every mornin'.

  • i will be trying this soon if you put it on ice right away it gives it a watery taste i have it in the fridge for 10 mins to see how it tastes after it hits the ice while its cold

  • My friends dad over summer always made the best sweet tea! And everytime my mom makes some it just not the same! so hopefully this tastes like his, I think my moms is just too thick... im not sure!

Tea is just a big deal for me haha (:

  • Really nice video! Thats some good sweet tea if i had to say so myself!

  • "id be very un-happeyy!" hahaha

  • what part of south carolina you in? im in lexington

  • what kind of tea bag is that ?

  • I make this stuff by the gallon i have 3 gal sitting in the fridge right now drink it like watter

  • why not just a kettle?

  • I have been to more places than I can count where they bring you iced tea WITH NO SUGAR IN. What are people thinking? It's horrible stuff. And you try to stir the sugar in, and it never dissolves and at the end you cry and want to throw things.

  • @deeno Real tea doesn't need sugar. Oriental practices are the best!

  • @LastXdeth For a good white tea, green tea, or other such thing, I'm good with having it neat. For iced tea, which is a particular beverage, it needs that sugar.

  • i notice most people like tea bags..i prefer tea leaves :D

  • I love sweet tea I wish more people in Northern virginia would too. I'm a southern girl so I can't survive without sweet tea.

  • Ya know, I'm from S.C. and my 3 fav. drinks are root beer, shirley temples, and SWEET TEA !!!!

  • That's cry man because I currently live in sangaree

  • Sangaree! I lived on carrie ln. I lived in college park when I was a teen. I went to college park middle before moving to moncks corner. My sisters used to ride the bus to berkeley high from college park because stratford wasn't built back then.

    cool to meet you!

    Rock on!

    Dave

  • Hey man I live in sc what part do you live in??? I'm in Summerville

  • I grew up in Charleston. I went to Garret High school in 1979 and I finished school in Moncks Corner at Berkeley High. I lived in Sangaree in 94.

    thanks,

    Dave

  • squeezin' ma tea baigs out! lol

  • haha squeeze my teabags out!

  • nice video man probably the simplest video on youtube.

So many other things to drink besides soda, soda, and other reminents of soda :D

  • I went Portugal in like 2006 and all i drank for that 2 weeks was Iced Tea or Sweet Tea :P and now i really want it again aha

  • He turn it so he will get get in trouble foe copyright becauce play music copyright on YouTube

  • judging by the video it must be a southern thing

  • Sweet tea isn't just a Southern thing, it's a Canadian thing, too.

  • Thats cool. So can you order it in a restaurant in canada without a waitress telling you that there are sugar packets on the table?

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • @jaybobed lol

  • @jaybobed when you order iced tea in canada it already comes really sweet. i don't even know if canada serves non sweetened iced tea

  • Comment removed

  • @jaybobed Yup, up here iced tea means cold sweetened tea, usually nestea or lipton iced tea mix/syrup which is pre sweetened always. We just call it iced tea here not sweet tea. It's the only kind of iced tea you get up here, and if you want unsweetened ice tea you would have to order a glass of ice and a tea pot of hot tea and make it yourself at your table because I have yet to come across a place other than specialty tea shops that offers what most americans refer to as iced tea.

  • @jaybobed I lived in Canada for 9 years and could NEVER get it. Not sure what Heegoop is talking about! ;)

  • i loves me sum tennesee sweet tea!! bestes thang in the world!!!

  • i squeeze my tea bags out XD ahahah

  • Thanks Dave !!

  • I want some tea after watching this video!

  • Why did you turn off Gordon Lightfoot? Thats a good song! lol

  • Made this last night. Loved it. My little niece loved it, also. Will definitely bring this recipe when I visit the Philippines next time. Good bye McDonald's sweet tea!

  • Comment removed

  • I like making really sweet tea!..gallons of that bad boy..... :P......and sweeten that bastard to holy hell.....XD

  • its the only way to go

  • Dave,

I made your sweet tea recipe tonight. It was the best sweet tea I have ever tasted.

Thanks for helping me perfect real southern sweet tea.

    Todd

  • Yeah sweet tea is the only tea I drink year round in fact I am drinking a fresh glass right now

  • A man who cooks. Gotta love it!

  • I once mentioned the word "fun" to a German. He replied "mmm fun... i hov aired of zis somewhere...zis thing you call fun".

lol! Great sweet tea my man! I love the jar idea. Looks really nice.

  • pls help me... i love sweet tea...but my sweet tea is always cloudy ...

  • well walk me through step by step on how you make it cuz there is alot of things that can cause that

  • i boil filtered water and then turn off the heat let the tea sit there for like 5 minutes

then take it out ...but its cloudy when it get room temp to sweeten it i use a simple syrup because i like mine sweeter than my husbands. so he doesnt use as much of the syrup..

  • ok. do you boil just a little bit of water and make a concentrate or do you boil all of it that will make a big diff. tea gets cloudy when you shock it so if you make a concentrate when adding water dont use cold water use warm or if you pour it over ice let it sit for a while first. also keep in mind some brands tea have alot of tannins in them so that will separate causing clouds lastly if you put the tea in the fridge add some boiling water to it rightbefore you serve it that usually helps

  • oh i almost forgot right after boiling while its till hot add a few drops of lemon juice just a bit you dont taste it but its will prevent clouds alot. hope this helps

  • If you have wel water that may be the reason!

  • can i make it with lipton tea bags?

  • thanks for the vid...good tea

  • nah, germans drink all kind of teas, hot, cold sweet, however: thanks for shearing =)

  • Thanks for sharing!

I watched the video, but nowhere was it mentioned what kind of tea was in the bags (green, black, nettle, raspberry? etc. etc.).

  • tea is awesome and worldwide in diffrent ways sweet is my favlol teabags

  • hey you guys, i am from germany, and drink sweet tea hot and without any sugar! thats just how we do it! german sweet tea rules...

  • hell yes to mason jars ! ! ! ! !

  • Sweet tea is the ONLY beverage to drink during the summertime. Well, that and an ice cold lager.

  • i'm from california and we don't really have sweet tea around. i drank sweet tea like crazy when i went to north carolina. i love sweet tea!!! :)

    thanks for the vid!

  • I didnt know sweet tea was thought to be a southern thing. Im 43 and from Iowa and have been making teat the exact same way they do on this video my whole life. And so does everyone else I know.

  • Thats very cool. I think it is a southern thing. It is the main beverage offered in almost every resturant in the south. I have never been able to get SWEET tea in any other place other than the south. Most places up north give you sugar packets if you want it to be sweet.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • I guess I never tried to order it in a restaurant up here. Dont eat out much...lol. Sometimes in the summer I just make the tea in the sun instead of boiling water but I HAVE to add the sugar. Tea without sugar? ick...lol

  • @jaybobed It's definately southern. :) I live in Florida, and that's how we drink it. They offer it EVERYWHERE. My family is addicted! <3

  • @lckeeley It is sold everwhere you go in the South...ie...McDonalds etc. I had some at the McDonalds in California...Was nasty....Southern Yes

  • ive lived in the south for almost 10 yrs and I still cant make good tea. Noone tells you what size pitcher to use. All i have is a 2 qt. its always comes out too bittery or too watery. I gave up trying about 5 yrs ago. i stick to mcd's. lol

  • This is how we make sweet tea, exactly, pitcher and all! lol Until recently you couldnt find good tea in restaurants but now Ryan's, Golden corral are good most of the time, and the best on the road is at McDonald's! I dont like their food but they have the best tea!

  • what type of tea bags are you guyz using >?

  • how come in south carolina you drink it out of a jar and not a glass

  • I use the jar for a glass. I am just a poor ole southern boy, just trying to get along in this hard cruel world.

    Dave

  • I drink it out of a jar too....and I'm from Michigan...lol.

  • @jaybobed i'm from the north and i'm all about the mason jar glasses

  • Sweet tea is gods gift to the south which we shared with the rest of the world :-D

  • @thorsmitersaw I thank you... lol from England

  • Wow...Never would have guessed so many people have never had Sweet Tea. As with my grandparent and my parents, there is always a pitcher of Sweet Tea in the fridge.. Thanks for sharing this great beverage with our brothers and sisters from the north :)

  • Dave, your voice is pretty darn cool.

    Where are you from?

  • Dave (or anyone who may know), how many of the personal size tea bags equals one of those big ones you used? I've never seen those, but i have pretty much a stockpile of the small ones, and i'd like to try this.

  • Well, lets see? 1 large bag makes 1 quart of tea. so if a little tea bag makes 1 cup, 8 oz in a cup, so 4 little tea bags should equal 1 large tea bag.

    thanks,

    Dave

  • cool thanks!

  • my aunt makes a sweet iced tea like that but i believe she also adds apple slices and cinnamon sticks.

  • being from canada I have never had sweet tea, but it sounds good.

  • Mmmm... I'm gonna make this right now!

  • lol, sorry to comment twice, but i had to! i'm far from south carolina, but i drink out of mason jars all the time. i buy a lot of bottled grapefruit from the markets and i keep the glass jars. my friends think im a hobo for not have "real" cups, but they serve their purpose and they got character!

  • i've never tried sweet tea but you make me want to.

your videos are so enjoyable. : )

  • nice vid!

  • sweet tea is the shit

    thanks man! your the best

  • What kind of teabags are those? Im used to the square ones with string...also what tea do you recommend?

  • this guy is the shit

  • thanks!!! :)

  • This guy kicks ass!

  • Big Thanks for this Video. On a trip to Atlanta I was introduced to "Sweet Tea" Love It!

  • Just got back from Charleston SC, where my favorite foods were everywhere. Thanks for giving a New Yorker, the skinny on Fried Okra, and Sweet Tea.

  • what kind of tea leafs?

  • I do believe it's made from black tea leaves. (But don't quote me on it.)

Luzianne or Lipton if you want some truly southern sweet tea.

  • Thank you so much! I love southern style sweet tea but I have not been able to make it here at home in New York. I always added way too much sugar or my tea was too strong or too weak. I just made a batch of tea using your instructions and it turned out perfect! Thanks so much for sharing your secret with all of us!

  • I love South Carolina sweet tea :)

I can't wait to make this at home!

  • Oh my goodness! what a find! this is how we made sweet tea in Texas and I forgot how to, until now!

    thank you!!!!

    -caryl

  • thanks so freakin much. i couldnt figure out how to make any tea and it would piss me off and then the neighbors over yonder just laughed at me when i asked. so thanks

  • Thats how we do it in north carolina! sweet tea in a mason jar hahaha. Keep it up Dave, Love the videos. Show everyone how we cook in the south

    Kyle

  • Us Kentuckians love some sweet tea! lol .. i know i go through a 3 qt pitcher every 3 days lol .. i LOVE it

  • Where I live in Kentucky I hardly ever find SWEET tea in any resturants

  • really?!?!?!!?!?! lol wow .. i would die!

  • Yes we do!!

  • What kind of tea bags are those?

  • I use tetley teabags

  • The sweet tea thing has came to N.Y.

  • Love your serving 'glass'

  • sweet tea is slowly spreading it's goodness here to the north! mcdonalds and white castle both offer (really good!) sweet tea up here now! (i live on long island in NY)

  • @lookitsthescenekid mcdonalds may be good to you now but just wait til you get yourself an amazing glass of REAL southern sweet tea

  • its starting to get cold here in vegas so sweet tea is great here since its so dry here its good to have a cold sweet beverage.

  • i loooove sweet tea! im from south eastern alabama. its rare to find a southerner that doesnt like sweet tea!!! i went to the north for vacation and asked for sweet tea and they looked at me like i was stupid...

  • I love sweet tea. That stuff you buy in the store tastes like something from the toilet. Better to make it at home.

  • Thanks for the video.... gettin ready to get alot colder here in ohio... gonna make some southern sweet tea.......

  • this is the way i usually make my tea too... (with sugar in the jug) lol i have posted a SOUTHERN SWEET TEA video for my page also... but i had to do sumthing different so i used simple syrup... turned out pretty good... :)

heard ur from SC... NC here... lol nice tea!

  • Great video! You make tea the way I was raised to make it. They kill me on the Food network telling people to put the sugar in the pan in the stove!

  • LOL Maybe you just needed to refresh?

    Dave

  • Hey Dave,

Love your videos, what kinda tea bags do u use? Is there any particular brand or flavor?

  • Hey anyday, I use tetley, but I just use it cause its cheap?

    THanks,

    Dave

  • This was an amazing video. I didn't think making sweet tea could be made so easily, thank you for sharing this.

If your interested you should check out some of the videos we do.

    Aden - how2heroes

  • Yeah, I'm from the North, and had no idea about this Sweet Tea insaneness. lmao Sounds good though, I'm trying it :]

  • its amazing to me that sweet tea is so unknown in the north

i like sweet tea but usually people make it too sweet, I've been in some restaurants where they ask if you would like "sweet tea, or REALLY "sweet"

and its nice to see your from SC too

  • You know we love the sweet tea in the south!

    THanks,

    Dave

  • Thanks for the Video! I love Iced tea, and it is so inconvenient to have to travel to get it!

  • Hey Gina!

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • thanks, i never tried tea with sugar or flavoring anything other then the bag it self.

i think ill try this now

  • That first bit of music was "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot, wasn't it? Good Canadian songwriter.

Dave, on the other hand, is a really good American cook.

Sweet tea, seems like 'iced tea' as I know it. Do you ever add lemon juice?

Keep it up Man, you should have a show on Food TV.

  • hhhmmm that does look pretty tasty... It just says summer all over it. :)

and makes me want BBQ... mmmm pork ribs....

  • great thanks alot jerk, now im hungry!! lol jk

  • all right. .. you are now a favorite of mine! My parents are from SC and my dad ALWAYS talk about how we NY-ers cant make SWEET TEA. I am going to make him a JAR of it! I laughed when i saw your mason jar! My grand-daddy used to drink from a MAYONAISE jar!! It used to look SO GOOD. A DUKES jar! LOL!

i have to think of some other things i want to see of yours!!

I agree. . .you need your OWN SHOW!!!

  • Thanks Cynthia! Tell your Dad high from South cackolacky!

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • amen about the sugar in the tea while its hot!!!

  • You can super-saturate the the tea with sugar when it's hot. More sugar = good.

  • Great vid!

  • Thanks!

  • How does this guy not have a show on the Food Channel? He could fill that void left by Justin Wilson, I Gaur-On-Tee.

  • Thanks Greg! I wish.

    Dave

  • Hey Dave.

love your videos! I'm a northwest gal myself, but I love your recipes.

Just a thought tho. When making tea, hot, cold, sweet or unsweetened, it's best not to squeeze the bags after steeping. it makes the tea bitter.

    Or not,,

    just thought I'd mention it.

    thanks again.

  • i agree with u about squeezing the bag, it's super concentrated and made it bitter fast, btw great vid, i find baking soda for some reason really mellows out tha drink talso great vid, if u get ur own show i'd watch it!

  • i guess its simple science, the baking soda (acid) combines with the bitterness of the tea (base) and becomes "neutral" :p...

  • add lemon too

  • is this suppose to be iced tea?

    P.S love your show :D

  • HUH?

  • i meant is this soppused to be hot or cold like ice tea -.-

  • OH, Here in the south we mostly drink ice tea. I guess you could drink it hot? But I prefer Ide Tea with sugar. Thanks

  • your right about that dave cause when you put sugar in after when its cold it just falls to the bottom of the glass so put it in when it hot then let chill like you said

  • Hey Nick! Thanks

  • love it! mannn i love me some sweet tea! although i add about a cup of sugar to mine! haha!

  • Nazc rack

  • Is that a little mo' i'm seeing?! SO CUTE.

  • what brand of teabag are those?

  • Tetley

  • prepare to die

  • well y dont you have sweet tea hot with milk mmmmm i like it

  • Because in the southern part of the US it is usually too hot for hot tea. So we drink ice tea to cool off with.

  • Dave I love you. I love those recipes even more, thanks for showing me how to make so much good stuff.

  • Hey, Dave! You appear to be losing weight. Hope you are still eating all the wonderful recipes you make!

  • Hey and thank you. You know I dont eat these things everyday. I try and eat mostly beans and greens. I love collards!! But I do treat myself once in a while!

  • Sweet tea is not just a beverage it's a lifestyle. I'm a Texas gal, and many privately owned restaurants will automatically serve you sweet tea- unless you specify that you prefer unsweetened tea. You know what I'm talkin' about if you're Southern. And your Nana and Mama always have a pitcher in the fridge during the dog days of summer :D

  • i have always wondered what sweet tea was, so thank you for a very simple recipe. that will be lovley to serve to the reletives this xmas.

    keep them coming.

  • Instead of sugar, honey can be used as a substitute.
