Leonid Kogan is very good in this Schubert Fantasy in C based on the great song Sei Mir Gegrusst. Another very good recent performance is by a young man named Kamron with pianist Eduard Laurel 2009. This work has great variety, and different speeds and emphasis bring out different aspects. Commentators should not be too critical and opinionated about varied personal styles. I say for Schubert the more performers and listeners the merrier.
Thank you so much for sharing such beauty by uploading these rare recordings. This is one of my favourite Schubert pieces and Kogan is one of my favourite violinists! Made my day.
Although I love Kogan, I do agree with you here. The Schubert Fantasy is,,well,,just that, a Fantasy. This performance isn't very early romantic "fantasy" like. I prefer the Oistrakh/Bauer performance. I also really DO NOT LIKE at all the 1968 rushed, abridged, hacked apart Heifetz/Smith recording. That one makes this sound great!
just love it! I too believe that Schubert is very difficult to play convincingly. This is a very convincing performance by a grand master. Mytnik is no slouch either.

I agree with you. Ovrutsky is amazing in the Schubert Fantasy. However, the youtube recording is only the first third.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
No sense of mystery -very straight forward playing
with limited imagination - piano is 2nd. rate, of no help
Quite boring - -violin playing of slash and dash
and take no prisoners school -totally unmusical
Makes you want not to hear this beautiful work again .

Fair enough if you find it so, but maybe you can tell us which performance has all the qualities that you find lacking here?
The first time I ever heard this work was by Oistrach/Bauer and it still is my favorite. But maybe you know of better one(s)?

such negativity! Quite misplaced.

Even Heifetz makes this piece sound like an obstacle course challenge, but I really think Kogan's rendition has far more poise.
