  • You're right bro, the wrong Gene did win that year. Wilder should have won on WW, or at least been nominated..

  • This Film makes me wanna throw up the tone is so dark and its fucking weird!

  • You need to go and find a girl that likes you (narrowed down alot) then take out your penis and put that 1 incher in her pussy and then maybe you will stop whining about a film that was made along time ago.

  • Hello, bitches. IGSRJ here.

  • Cheer up char...FAST FORWARD !

  • I respect your opinion and all (especially the "Cheer Up Charlie" song), but I believe that the 2005 version is better. Why? The sets in the newer version look much better and timeless than the 1971 version, it was MILES more faithful to the original book, and the acting was very good. Besides, Roald Dahl hated the original.

The original is still enjoyable though, if a tiny bit overrated.

  • @dwibs93 Oh, and both Wilder and Depp are both good as Wonka.

  • Everyone hates that one part. It should of been banned.

  • So I'm not the only one who hates this song.

  • jhaha gene wilder has another rant at the beggining of rhinocerous which is good too

  • maybe the song is why it wasn't nominated.

  • "As you can see from the title of this movie" really arch?

  • trust me your not the only one who hated that.... I wanted to pistol whip that bitch

  • I dislike this movie. Why? I just can't stand musicals in general. I love Gene Wilder, but every song in this movie just kills it for me. That's me personally.

  • The Cheer Up Charlie scene didn't really bother me, although I would call it my least favorite song in the movie :P

Definitely agreed on Gene Wilder's performance; he was brilliant–IS brilliant. It's gonna be a very sad day when he's gone.

  • "Cheer up Charlie-"

    BLAM! *headshot!*

  • DID YOU JUST MAKE FUN OF JOHNNEY DEPP...DID YOU!!!!!! I WILL DO SOME RANT VIDEOS ON YOU....JOHNNY DEPP IS AMAZINGLY TALNETED AND AND IN ANY MOVIE HE PLAYS IN IS AWESOME SO SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE ABOUT JOHNNY OR I WILL PERSONALLY PUSH YOU IN THE CHOCLATE FOUNTAIN SO YOU CAN GET SUCKED UP..... thank you :S

  • Crap! I was about to say, Fuck you!, when you said Gene Wilder's acting. But I got cooled down once you started to talk about it

  • you didnt have dvr when you were a kid to fast foward

  • @miseson

No shit. We had VCRs and you fast forward on them the same as you would a DVR.

  • @TheArchfiend you should be pissed that the movie came out in whatever country it was made in when the charlie and the chocolate factory came out. (P.S. you are awsome)

  • @TheArchfiend i agree with you i hate that scene in willy wonka and the chocolate factory

  • the part of charlie and the chocolate factory that sticks out in my head, is the room with the chocolate river. That my favorite part in the movie.

  • lets see you make a better movie jerkoff

  • the clown has no penis

  • Is archfiends hat on fire? :/

  • I hated that freaking song! Like you, I always turned the channel or skipped the part all together.

  • I know what you mean about Cheer Up Charlie. It always bored me

I did stage crew for a play version of it

They made the song better by having Grandpa Joe sing it with Charlie's mother

but it still wasnt that good

  • i love this movie, but that song is.... forgettable to say the least.

  • Am I the only one - and if so, does this make me a spoiled rotten idiot - that thinks movies like Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Clash of the Titans and Night of the Living Dead haven't aged well? Don't get me wrong, I love those movies, I just think they haven't aged well.

  • I never liked that scene either. I mean, when it appeared, I literaly thought "Dear gosh, not again!". Good rant, BTW.

  • dude! just get on your knees in front of another dude and get it over with.

  • I felt the exact same way as a kid Arch. I mean do they really think kids are going to want to watch that scene and honestly enjoy it? I remember beung physically scared by tgat scene. Great vids Arch keep on posting!! Have a great day :)

  • The Oscars are all political anyway, they don't give two shits about comedies, fantasies and all that. To them, those kinds of movies are "unsophisticated". Plus, they don't judge films on how well THEY MIGHT hold up, they judge them on how good they were back then. I agree with your opinion on the films, but you shouldn't get so worked up about it. The past is the goddamn past!

  • cheer up Charlie makes archfiend cry everytime.

  • @nigrobat

Yes. But it's only because of the intense pain and nausea it induces.

  • @TheArchfiend maybe that is triggered as a self mechanism working to continue suppressing your emotions inside?

  • i dk if i liked cheer up charlie but i did use that tune to make up a song for my sibs i rasied 3 of my sibs from 2001-2005 while in highschool so understand about hard times

  • Hey Archfiend! have you seen the dubbed versions of willy wonka? they are HILARIOUS very rude and well done, i warn you now it will upset you to see them, but if you want to have a laugh they are great

  • Ahh I have to disagree with you on the Charlie song...I thought it was really sweet, and I liked it as a kid.

What always REALLY annoyed me was Wonka's outburst near the end. It wasn't in the book, and there was generally no need for it.

  • @xBellatrixLestrangex The outburst scared the living daylights out of me.

  • I completely agree with your assessment of the song- it is usually my clue to grab something to eat, take a bio break, flip channels for a while. Actually I have always preferred to watch the movie from when Charlie finds the money in the street and gets the ticket- from there on the movie is pure gold.

  • I heard that Roald Dahl (Sorry If I spelt his name wrong.) hated this film (the 70's version) when it first came out. I love the book, and the 70's film. Great video Archfiend, you're awesome.

  • @OaksAids you spelled it correctly and you are right Roald didn't care for the 70's film

  • It's one of my favourites too.

  • I hate to agree with a wierdo closet case but, agreed.

  • well i didnt hate the song, but i felt real awkward watching it

  • i like the remake but because the orginal scared me

    cuz i was 6

  • You kinda look like Willy Wanker, Arch.

  • Hi, Archfiend. I like you videos. Now I don't agree on everything you say on your videos, but most of the points you make are valid.

  • @LadyRaziBox

Thanks. Hope you didn't like the "Cheer Up Charlie" song.

  • always hated that song too.......Xp

  • I love the original, but i am tired of the movies not following teh books. The book is much more intune with the new movie. Another good example is Wizard of the Oz.

  • lmao, I do the same thing when charlie's mom starts singing. She looks so depressed.

  • the book had songs in it. the songs were so memorable. Cheer up charlie wasn't that bad. it was soothing.

  • I didn't like that scene either. Usually me and my family skip that part aswell.

  • I hate the music scene everytime I watch it on tv I change the channel to anything I can find.

  • I always fast fowarded through that scene too. I thought I was the only one who did.

  • I agree with u about the cheer up charlie scene i skipped it as a kid and today i still fast forward it its so stupid but Gene Wilder should of won an oscar for tht movie he is one of my all time favorite actors

  • u suck

  • I'm glad someone thought the same about this movie that I did. I always skipped past that song, especially as a kid. It was totally out-of-place with everything else.

  • I never watched that movie.

  • I hated that scene also...

This movie is good, but it doesn't hold up to my FAVORITE all time movie...

    Back Door Sluts 9.

  • Go eagles nice vid

  • when you compare the willy wonka in the original to the one in the new one the one in charlie and the chocolate factory was kind of jerk at some points

  • I hate that song too and every time I go to watch this movie when I get to this part I always ask my self should I watch it or fast forward to the next part

  • it was 20 years his grandpa was in bed not 50

  • Oh same difference.

  • Comment removed

  • Wilder got nominated for a Golden Globe. And I guess the film didn't get many nominations because not many people saw it. The film was a huge flop. It didn't get any recognition until it recieved numerous television plays in the early 80's and it soon became a cult classic.

PS I always hated the scene with Charlie's mom lol

  • I HATED that mother's song too.

  • Well the Oscars usually are bullshit, like any awards.

  • I don't think anyone remembers Gene Hackman's performance...

But everyone and their mother remembers Gene Wilder's performance.

  • It bombed at the box office...

If it succeeded Gene would have gotten nominated for an Oscar, plus he was up against Topel in the musical category at the Golden Globes! Fiddler on the Roof....yea Oscars are all about hype, so poor Gene didn't stand a chance.

  • Meh, yeah I think the mom just wanted a bigger part. Sing it with me now, "Cheer up Charrrlieee, show me your smiiile, Cheer up Charlieee, ah we're poor but your life will awesome in 15 minutessss..."

I LOVE this movie! Oh my God. Gene Wilder is awesome.

  • lol true...thats what made Tim Burton's what it was...I love the Wilder Wonka but the Depp Wonka was more for teens and older adults....

  • Are you mental?? L M F A O

"the best kind of prize is a surprise!"

As opposed to Gene quoting Shakespeare...

yea...I can see how the Depp Wonka is more for adults then the original.

  • I totally agree with you on Gene Wilder...I love him as an actor...Willy Wonka was one of his best movies though i think....it actually didnt get very many good reviews when it came out which is why he wasn't nominated...though i agree he totally needed to win it hands down

  • omg same thing i hated her singing cheer up charlie and cooking or something i mean whats the point whatever i always skip forward it too

  • I HATE that song the mom sung.

I love the original but like the remake more because it's closer to the book. Have you read the book, Archfiend? because you never mention it in the rant.

  • i skipped that scene too!!!!

this movie isn't my favorite movie of ALL TIME, it's in top 10, but it's my favorite children's movie, and yes, it was MADE for children, but it clung to adults as well,

  • I've always loved Willy Wonka, and I agree Gene Wilder was phenomenal and timeless...and yes, Cheer up Charlie is a dud.

As for Burton's version, I made the mistake of taking my niece to that movie. I'm sure it was more true to the book, but holy hell, even for me it was weird and my poor niece was completely lost. Honestly, I think I may have blocked 99% of that theater experience from my head.

  • I actually liked the Tim Burton version better, but I still really like the original

  • what about kill bill as your alltime fav

  • i think you will agree that the new version had better music. (well, anything is better then that oompa loompa shit.)

  • dude i agree with you on all of this

  • cheer up charlie...

    i hate that fucking part.

  • I agree on the "Cheer Up Charlie" song, I never really liked it much for some reason either...

  • I liked the Tim Burton Version. But the Original was Much Better.

    That Tunnel scene WTF.

  • The tunnel scene was awesome

  • "There's no earthly way of knowing / Which direction we are going! / There's no knowing where we're rowing, / Or which way the river's flowing! / Is it raining? Is it snowing? / Is a hurricane a-blowing? / Bah! Not a speck of light is showing, / So the danger must be growing, / Are the fires of hell a-blowing? / Is the grizzly reaper mowing? / Yes! The danger must be growing, / For the rowers keep on rowing, / And they're certainly not showing / Any signs that they are slowing..."

  • haha I definitely always fast-forwarded the cheer up charlie song! It was like 5 minutes long! I couldn't stand it.

  • So, you are trying to be Randall from Clerks?

  • you cant beat the old version

  • the song cheer up charlie is takes forever

  • Those ompah lumpas in the 71 version gave me nightmares as a kid but you are right it is a better movie. The mothers song is dreadful but i think it was there to show the veiwer just how dreary their lives are.

  • Didn't Roald Dahl complain that Willy Wonka movie was nowhere like his book? He didn't like it..

  • Yes...I think it's why it's called Willy Wonka to begin with, rather Charely.

The new one is more similar to the book, though I liked the other one alot when I was a kid, liked the book.

Only think the new one did is add the extra with his dad. This actually was ok, but it made the ending to where he didn't accept due to his problems with family. However, note the original one changed the ending too and had more dissimilarities.

I agree with the Wilder stuff, he was a bad dude & funny.

  • Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay himself.

  • No. He simply hated the film.

it had nothing to do with whether or not it was like the book.

The original actually IS closer to the book, it follows the same basic story arch, the characters are truer to the book, and no themes or sub plots are added.

Slugworth is more of a plot twist and one you're really not paying that much attention to. It's sort of just slipped in there, whereas Wonka's daddy issues is the thing the newer film leads up to.

  • @Sshelly34213

Dahl hated the original because it changed so much from the book. So much so that he made them change the name of the film. So how can the original be more like the book?

In fact, Dahl's own family stated that if he were still alive, he would have approved of the Burton version of the film. I'm sure they should know more about that than anyone.

  • He hated the original because he didn't like the film as a whole.

He didn't hate it because it "deviated so far from the book" that's bullsht. He wrote about 70% of the screenplay, the only thing Seltzer added was the Slugworth?fizzy lifting plot twist and Wonka's dialogue. You can literally tell which scenes are Dahls (entire beginning and classroom scenes) and which are Seltzers (Wonka's quotes and ending.)

  • That's actually not true, his wife stated that after the film came out. Why? Because she didn't want to be rude. His daughter Lucy just stated in a recent interview that he would have hated all the film adaptations of his books after his death INCLUDING CATCF.

Why? Because Dahl was a picky mofo and had a specific vision that no director could get write. That's what he disliked about the original.

  • If that's the case then Dahl would have hated Burton's film even more than the original. It actually contradicts all of Dahl's themes, Wonka is nasty and just as bad (if not worse) than the bratty kids that enter his factory. I say worse because he takes out all of his misery on other people.

He also forgives and learns to accept his nasty father who psychologically abused him and abandoned him. Also Dahl was NOT a sadist, he wrote funny tragedies and used subtle, dry wit and irony.

  • The original actually follows the book much closer, the characters are exactly like their book counterparts, the story arc is exactly like the story arc of the original (except with a twist that does not change the focus or even distract the viewer from what's going on) and the themes are all present. Slugworth represents the corrupt, evil adults.

I'd like to point out that Travers despised Mary Poppins. Many writers hate it when their books are made into film.

  • BTW I apologize for spelling and grammar issues.

  • Say what you will about the new movie, but I think this is how remakes should be. Stay faithful to major plot points but do something new with it.

  • Hey archfiend loved the rant and speaking of the 1971 Oscars one thing I thought of was how French Connection won best film and is a good movie, but the Oscar clearly belonged to A Clockwork Orange.

  • I liked the version with Johnny Depp, granted I've never seen the older version but I still think the movie is great.

  • great rant archie bucket

  • never knew Gene Wilder never got nominated, i would've thought he would've a rela shame this movie is one of my favourite childrens movie from when i was a kid, great rant man.

  • I share your point of view and I'm just 18. I watched the first version of Willy Wonka a loong time ago and the chocolate factory and I still love it.

  • The new is way better. The old one was baddly acted, & horribly cast (except for Wilder). And unlike the retard who directed the old one, Burton kept the new one as faithful as the book (I'm not calling it a remake because it's not).

  • No, you're not the only one who didn't like that " Cheer Up Charlie" song. That song was too depressing to be in a happy and jolly musical like this.

  • yes id have to say tht willie wonka was alot better thn charlie, but charlie and the chocolate factory wasnt supposed to b a remake of the movie at all in the first place, it was more to do with the book, and it did a gr8 job tellin the story from the book in movie form, whereas the 1970s willie wonka and the chocolate factory was gr8 as a musical

  • No it DOES NOT.

It shts all over the book! It's basically just Tim Burton putting all of the characters into Tim Burton World with Tim Burton themes and Tim Burton freakish characters.

Like he did to Batman, like he did to the haunting short story of Sleepy Hollow.

Dahl would have hated the new one even more than the original, everything they change in the original is ten times worse.

  • those damn oompa loompas still scare the shit out of me.

    That said, good rant.

  • I love it when you point at the advertisement >.>

  • CHEER UP ARCHIE

    GIVE ME SOME RANTS

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ARCHFIEND I USED TO KNOW

DON'T YOU KNOW THIS SONG HAS ALWAYS BEEN

    SO ANNOYING

    LET THAT HATRED SHOW!

(i am no weird al yankovic, but damn that song was annoying, and was very sad.)

  • When that scene comes on I would change the channel or I would shut off the tv.

  • Well Yell the Archfiend keeps going and he's not showing any signs of slowing!

  • That scene bored the crap out of me too. I always used to fast forward it.

  • I don't remember that scene. I was too buy getting Pepsis for myself at that moment lol

  • i totally used to fast forward that scene too

  • The original is way better than the remake. I'm not surprised that Gene Wilder didn't get nominated. The Oscars doesn't always reward the real talent in Hollywood.

  • I have an oompaloompa shirt lol that was my first screen name oompaloompa hahaha...I want a snozzberry!

  • well said

  • Willy Wonka is a disguised drug movie.

  • Quote from imdb: "This film was going to be titled "Candy Man" - hence the name of the song - but it was changed when it was realized that "Candy Man" was underworld slang for a drug trafficker."

  • I hated the scene

  • I hated the scene too, Archie.

  • i agree totally arch

  • i watched it first when i was 5. loved it. and no i didnt like that scene with charlie's mom

  • that song should be renamed "go put the kettle on" or "go and take a piss cause this is song is bad"

  • i would change the channel or leave the room when i heard her sing

  • Well, I really didn't care for the scene, but not to the point where I'd not watch it. I'll watch it, it's just another scene in the movie for me. But you're right, it is a pretty pointless scene, guess nothing's perfect.

  • I agree, im 17 and I still enjoy the movie.

  • I'm watching right now aswell ARch. The Charlie one sucked ass and the original was awesome. I watch it when it comes on TV

  • I agree, Willy Wonka and the chocolate Factory is a lot better

  • I found "Cheer up, Charlie" to be boring and pointless.

  • Gene wilder got a golden globe award for best actor.

as for Gene Irate Hackman. The French Connection got 5+ oscars, gayness.

  • lol i still fast forward when she starts singing. also did u just see that movie on tv and think "i can make a rant about that!!" LOL

  • Actually, that is exactly it. A lot of my rants just come to me from something or another. And I strike while the iron is hot rather than make it later.

  • I agree, I hate Cheer Up Charlie. It has no place in the movie and has no relevance on the plot. It's the scene where you get up and take a LONG bathroom break.

But yeah, Willy Wonka is timeless and fun.

  • lol

  • Gene Hackman is an OUTSTANDING actor watch facture (think thats the one I'm thinking of)

  • the movie ended just now on ABCfamily

  • I know.

  • if it was sung by metallica would you like it?

  • No. They suck too.

  • how about slipknot?

  • Them too.

  • "Johnny" Depp"

you mean the one made by Tim Burton?

I am actually a huge fan of his movies though I agree charlie and the chocolate factory was big let down as excired I was about the film and not some of his best work. the classic is definitely the best.

  • Awesome movie!!!!!!! That seen did kill the flow of the flick, especialy when your a kid and 3 or 4 minutes seems like an eternaty!

  • I remember watching this video in school (In 4th grade, last day before Christmas Vacation when you pretty much dont do anything, well not in 4th grade) and that mother song came up, everyone went "Uggh"

The other thing, I felt Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory WAS much better when Gene was on the screen. The first 45 minutes before imo just werent as good as when they actually enter the factory.

  • Thumbs down this comment plz.

  • wtf you cannot silence reason.

  • Thumbs down this comment also, plz.

  • @TheArchfiend thumbs down this comment plz

  • the only Scene that annoys me is the "YOU LOSE, GOOD DAY SIR" one

    Sorry guys

  • I feel the same way about al pacino in scarface, he should have got a oscar for that movie. and the kids mother's song is so so in my opinion.

  • So so, in a movie of catchy songs. That song gets burried by EVERY other song in that movie. It also adds nothing to the film.

  • I agree it adds nothing but I think what they was going for was after the kid leave his mom, she is to sing to get everyone to be sad, I think. but that's just me.

  • Forgot to Put something there

That Scene ALWAYS Pissed me off

I'm so Happy That Some one else has the same opninion One that Shitty scene xD

  • Thanks. I was always wondering if that scene bothered other people besides me.

  • Nice video.

  • lol, I actually have no real comment about this rant. But yeah, the Johnny Depp one was major suckish.

  • Wasn't Depp portraying Michael 'Jacko' Jackson in his version of Willy Wonka?

  • Yah I heard Depp was portraying Jacko too.

But yah I agree Gene was fucking comical and demented in that movie! I loved it! WIlly wonka actually is like a horror movie but with kids and candy! lol

  • I also like Pee Wees Big Adventure theres another demented movie!!! haha

  • suuuure. You can say you hate the movie. I won't ban you if you do.

    *has fingers crossed behind back*

  • *sigh* I hate that bitch and her crossed fingers
