They named New York prosecutor Steven Pagones , calling him a racist and a rapist, among other accusations. First MSNBC didn't have to fire Imus. They could have suspended him and then taken him back. Jason is right. I am no fan of Don Imus, but he admitted he screwed up by saying that awful stuff, and appeared on Sharpton's radio show. He is a man of his word. I feel Sharpton dropped the ball and should have appeared on Imus' show as well.
Very little was mentioned from Sharpton and Jackson that it was not only Imus' former producer McGuirk that started all of this crap, but it was having access to hip-hop music made me Imus (and McGuirk) to say that in the first place.

Everytime I turn around it seems like someone has apologized for words (Some Races) thought they should not have said...Blacks Whites etc should be able to say whatever the hell they want about other races. They're just opinions.

cavfan1971, Al Sharpton does go after rappers. Rapper David Banner didn't appreciate it and bashed A.Sharpton in a song called SO SPECIAL. Blacks like Al Sharpton, C.Delores Tucker(R.I.P), and Rev Calvin Butts have been going after rappers since the early 90's

Blakkbandit22, here is the problem with what you're saying. There are several radio personalities that say offensive things, and then Sharpton singles out Imus. There are several rappers that are offensive, however, Sharpton doesn't single any of them out. To be fair, Sharpton needs to make a list of rappers (and call them by name) and try to get the record companies to fire these rap artist. Until Al does that, he will only be known as having double standards!!!

First MSNBC didn't have to fire Imus. They could have suspended him and then taken him back. The problem is Imus had a history of such humour and he had attacked a group of young women trying their best to represent their school. That being said, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have fought to address the issues that are hurting the black community and have gone after music labels and television shows (the Boondocks show) for their use of such language. So Whitlock must tell the full story.

carmelalopez since you want to discuss something being illegal, COLIN FINNERTY had a previous charge for a hate crime in D.C. That's illegal. Several members of the Duke lacrosse team also had criminal pasts.

StoogeWatcher, Jessie Jackson only offered to pay her tuition show she wouldn't have to strip to pay tuition. What's wrong with that?? Also, don't lose sight of the fact that some of the Duke lacrosse players had a history of bad behavior, used racial slurs, and hired the strippers in the first place. Don't try and portray the Duke lacrosse players as some wholesome guys.

Al Sharpton has been a part of marches/demonstrations against rap music for YEARS. Blacks such as C.Delores Tucker and Rev.Calvin Butts were protesting against rap music 10-15 years ago. Blacks address ALL the problems that goes on in our community.
The whites in the mainstream media chooses to ignore it. The only time they bring it up is when a HAPPY NEGRO like JASON WHITLOCK STEPS N FETCHES on their shows. This video is a perfect illustration.

Anybody that let's their children listen to music that degrades women, glorifies murder, and upholds the almighty dollar over true virtues is ignoring the problem. It isn't the white media's problem. It's your problem. And the two Rev.'s DO rally against rap music and that should be commended. But, they are also VERY devisive. If you continue to play the role of the victim you will be a victim.

I agree. I just wish they would pick their causes a little more carefully. Some of the causes they pursue infringe upon the importance of instances like the ones you named above. It's hard for many people to take them seriously on important issues because of their reps as opportunists. The Duke case is a pretty good example of their trend towards sensationalism. You know what they say about crying wolf. But I agree, our country has a long way to go.
