There's still a glitch in V1 of the game where you can get 100 lives fast but V1 is rarer to come around than V2 now. Also the DS has the super mushroom in which you can get lives and it is really effective in the Hazy Maze Cave near 2 Monty moles.
Don't forget that it's a flower if you go up there with anyone else (Yoshi gets fire breath, Wario gets metal, Luigi gets invisibility) but it's still useless. Also there is a bunny up there for Luigi but it's just a stupid slot machine game that is almost the exact same as the other slot machine game!
All that is still nothing compared to 100 lives... they should have had Waluigi up there (or a Toad to be realistic) to give you them.
