Long and skinny fingers are probably best for guitar playing.

Stretching your fingers on big chords will be easier and your fingers won't mute the strings as easily as fat fingers.

I was getting bad sound too but figured out my middle finger wasnt pushing down hard enough. That might be it.... or a sucky guitar/strings? lol.

@iinneeddaannaammee I know, I still don't know why it's sounding wrong on my electric guitar, my acoustic guitar makes a good sound at the E. And I'm definitely not pressing on the wrong spot, it's plays them fine, no muted sound, no awkward ringing sound (string rings against frets), it just sounds plain wrong. I have the same problem at Stairway to Heaven, the interval just sounds wrong on my electric, but right on my acoustic..

hmm, bad strings? Bad guitar? maybe that's just it.

means just hitting the top string by itself no pressing fingers on the string at all!! and it depends on the tuning of the guitar whenever you hear open string means no pressing fingers down on the fret board for that string.

the e string is the 6th string which is the one on the top.

it just means that no fingers r on the frets of the string so its just called an open string

I mean I can strum the chords but it takes me half an hour to switch between them

Well... hmm, you should try switching between D and G first, that's very easy, like 4x D, 4x G, repeat.

Also try not to pause while switching, keep struming, start slow, and when you get better, speed up. after that you should learn more chords, easy ones at first, harder ones later.

And if you learn a new chord you should know how to switch with that chord, it helps out a lot for intermediate guitar-playing. Good luck, practice makes perfect ;)
