  • well done, you broke science

  • m... that powerfull xD

  • the same force that shoots the projectile is also pushing the gun apart so it has to be really strong

  • wait, you did this at 6:52 in the morning? LOL

  • @scratchnsurf Thats when it was ready...

  • "Hello? 911? A railgun just blew a hole in my house! Hello?"

    Operator: *click*

  • What was used as the projectile?

  • Super, I have no words, especially when cable vaporated and exploded ^_^. How mush kilos one cap weigths?

And please tell me, what track playing at the beginning?

  • @GaussFanat those caps weight about 125kG a piece! And the song at the beginning is "Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation" if memory serves me right...

  • @sambarros

    Great thanks and good luck.

I think you shold try to make induction gun (tompson coil gun), it is much more effective than railgun wit such caps, I think you can get more than 5kJ kinetic energy in projectile.

  • Were gonna need a bigger railgun

  • What the fuck exploded?

  • @freitasnetuno No, nothing exploded, that was plasma man.

  • What a beautiful firework!

  • Nice project! Can you take a picture from the projectile and its plasma armature? And the plasma armature really helped the durability of the rail gun? Thanks ^^

  • This was on my birthday!! 2/3

  • nothing nicer then seeing major short circuits xD

how mucht did ya pay for da caps?

  • for rail gun 4.0 you could use an explosive injector=) like a gun sorta to inject the armature at a high speed. instead of filling those PVC tanks with nitrogen try something like hydrogen with an induction coil igniter.

  • @123324ben No injector whatsoever on this gun; the projectile starts out stationary and reaches terminal velocity with 100% electric acceleration. Explosive injectors are not popular with railguns because burning propellant will put a lot of carbon in the insulators and short them out.

  • IS THERE A VERIFIED VELOCITY FOR THE PROJECTILE ? ? DOES EMP MAKE THIS IMPOSSIBLE ?

  • man that was awesome my 3kJ railgun is tiny shit agents this monster, i with i had one of those caps

  • I wish i had one of those 12kv capacitors 0_0 You shoulda injected the projectile though. Was that the switch that flew like 20 feet to the left?

  • Yeah, that was the switch, propelled by the recoiling cables! You really don't have to inject plasma armature projectiles, and even with the metal armature ones, at these energy levels they do just fine with no injection...

  • Well apparently not... they never found the projectile. if you have the projectile injected, you dont need a switch. Using any sort of switch limits the peak current and the efficiency. If the projectile is injected, less energy is wasted on getting it to move, therefore increasing overall velocity. The initial issue with railguns is not the stored energy level, its the efficiency at which it's being used, and the ratio of electrical energy converted to kinetic.

  • thats some deadly shit keep up the good work

  • Why cables? Why not tightly coupled busbars?

  • Because the gun got put together in 4 days with whatever we had available ;)

  • @Powerlabs & one of those things happens to be a 105kJ capacitor battery?

  • Damn! Badass!
