If you want a clean sound with this amp loud enough to be heard over a drummer, crank the master channel, put the normal at about 10 or 11, and use a clean boost (i recommend the affordable and very solid boosta grande). if you want to also take advantage of the amp's overdrive, get a ABY box, run another cable into the top boost, crank that, and you've got switchable loud cleans/loud overdrive all coming from the AC15. might cost $130 or so, but it's a lot of versatility.
I wonder If I should get the new Vox AC15C2 or a AC30C2 for about 40€ more. I mostly play in my bedroom, but who knows, I might have gigs someday in the future. I would probably use it for cleans or low gain stuff.
Also, I already have a 2x12 cab with some Vintage 30s and I'm wondering could I use it with the Vox to play through all four speakers at the same time if I wanted?
@sokka06 Do NOT get the AC30C2. It's poorly built in comparison to the AC15C1. The AC15 is enough for gigs and you could always add an extension cab. If you REALLY want the 30 watts then get the AC30CC2. It's way better quality though it's more money.
Andy is an encyclopedia of amazing tunes. @fuelfreak I too was blown away by that Buzzcocks' tune. Illustrates my point perfectly (probably been made countless times before!).
@astrophysics123 you set the volume control of the particular channel you're using to where you want it, and use the master to control the overall volume.
You guys always have the best reviews. Mainly because the guy reviewing it, isn't trying to be a douche by over showing intelligence and playing ability. Just keeps it all strictly relevant to the amp.
Is the AC30 really that much louder? over the internet one can find all kinds of things, many claim that a 15 watt tube amp just breaks up sooner than a 30 watt tube amp and they are pretty much just as loud.
@maydecember513 I've heard that the 30 is a little louder, but it's mainly headroom differences. But since most AC30's have 2x12s, that would make it even more louder. So yeah. Watts + extra speaker will be a bit of a difference.
I've had this amp for about a month and it has seriously made me a better player. With a low watt tube amp, you can really learn how to ride the point of "breakup" as you play. My dynamics and the way that I hit notes with my pick hand have totally improved.

I'm a confused. Pro audio star sells this amp with the Nord electro 3 (a keyboard). But doesn't running keyboard audio paths through guitar Amps blow the speakers?
in like 90% of amp demos i have watched the guy doing the demo says "AND NOW WE'RE GOING TO HEAR HOW GREAT THIS AMP SOUNDS CLEAN YEAH!" and i go "AWESOME LET'S HEAR IT CLEAN" and then he plays it at about 30% gain so it's pretty crunchy and i'm like "DUDE THAT'S NOT CLEAN" and he's like "DOESN'T THAT CLEAN SOUND SOUND GREAT" and i'm like "NO"
and then he actually GIVES me a clean tone when he's talking about the 'verb and trem systems
Hey i got a question, im kinda of a bedroom rocker and i want to up grade from my crappy solid state as its not bringing out the true sound of my fender, i also have a case of insmoia and im really interrested in this amp, but im wondering if i can plug in my headphones so i dont wake up my family i've noctied this donst have a 3.5 jack so im wondering if there are any things that will let me plug in my headphone into this
I really like the way this amp sounds in this video, too bad it doesn't have a loop effects, I guess chorus and delay will sound like shit when cranked up
I don't care if this amp is less powerful. I'd rather have it than a HRDIII, Blackstar HT-40, or a Marshall MA. As long as its good for bars I'm fine. I can always plug into a PA when I play at church or bigger gigs.
@xxxxjsmith1710 - This amp has an excellent drive of its own, so you might just try a nice clean boost or treble boost pedal. We have been using the Durham Sex Drive in our videos for years and recommend it highly, but there are plenty of other great ones out there. We have videos for many of them in our website's video catalog. Thanks!
Hello everyone.I've seen different VOX amplifiers and I have a little doubt between VOX AC15C1 and AC-30 VR.Could please tell me why AC15C1 is more expensive than AC-30 VR despite the first one has only 15 watts? Thank you very much.
@skimptor It's not good for apartment practice at all. I just picked one up today, and you've got to turn up the volume for some good gain. If you still want to get it for an apartment, I strongly recommend a distortion or gain pedal.
@StringBender567 the ac15 is 15 watts, the ac30 is 30 watts. The ac15 has one speaker, and the ac30 has two. also the ac30 is heavier by about 24 pounds
This amp is great value for money. I mean, $599 for all tubes with that kind of overall sound quality and nice trem and reverb effects? Hard to beat for sure!

i really like the way you do your reviews, they are really helpfull :D i just want to know, is this amp loud enough for rehearsal and sound over drums ? i have played with an AC30 and yes, the volume you get from that amplifier it's insane ! I have a Bugera V22 and i really like the tone and the way it works, but i really preffer the vox "pop" sound better :) Thanks.
i have a fender hot rod deluxe but i honestly think vox is the best for both clean and distorted tones. i wish i had enough money for a nice ac30. that'd be awesome
can you get that same cranked overdrive out of the ac30 c2, i am more interrested in the roar then the clean. i have the opportunity of getting a ac30 c2 for about the same price as the ac15
@nairblink - Yes, the tone will be very similar. The AC30 will be noticeably louder at the same "roar" level however, due to the higher wattage and extra speaker. Thanks!
@nairblink - Depends on what you mean by "reasonable"....The Master Volume should offer you some flexibility, but in general the AC30 is a pretty loud amplifier. You need to turn it up to get the tonez. It's not a good choice for a bedroom practice amp.
@adam10603 - Nope. No EQ on the videos. If you take your time with guitar / amp setup and mic placement you shouldn't need equalization. We did a Scoop video on our recording process if you want to know more about it. Thanks!
do you think this amp would work with an ibanez rg. Im lookin round for a new amp but i like my guitar. My rg has passive pickups and isn't a total metal machine.
I'm looking around for a nice combo that's portable and loud enough to take to the pub for gigs with the band without having to take the car :P
This seems to make all the right noises but is it loud enough for pubgigs?
We're a 4 piece band with just drums, bass and 1 guitarplayer, we play alternative rock mixed with punk... but with an indie flavour to it, so nothing to heavy gain-wise.
@holyshiteater 15 watts is definatly loud enough for a pub, id go with the vox ac15, the fender blues jr which is also 15 watts, or the fender deluxe reverb which is 20 but its more expensive
God I gotta stop watching Andy's demo's.. I'm saving up for a serious guitar wich I'm pretty sure I've found. But I'm thinking about getting rid of my Fender tube head and cab that's been collecting dust ever since we moved into a new rehearsel space with the band. I wanna replace the Fender with a nice not to heavy heavy tube combo to take to rehearsels and small gigs.... I love AC30's but is this (backfriendly) AC15 loud enough for a punk/indie rock band situation?
Hey Andy great demo on this amp.Quick question mate - What's the amp volume setting like usually on these demos? Do you usually set the guitar volume full on to 10? or where do you leave the guitar volume knob on most of the time? Cheers!
Andy, you could take a crappy Hondo guitar and plug it into a little Gorilla amp with an 8" speaker and it'd still sound awesome! You rock, and I love watching your rviews! \m/
FiveironFlores & Varone6t9; I have one & I too cannot achieve the sounds shown in this demo without cranking it; I'm sure he's not using an attenuator on this vid, or he would have mentioned it; I'm sure the humbuckers he's using (I have a Tele) gives him a bit more push; I have a Marshall Class 5 that "wouldn't quite do it" either, but totally kicks as* with either a JMP-1 rack preamp driving it, or my Digitech RP80 pedal that I bought at Salvation Army for $2.95; Try something like that...
one quick question please answer before i kill myself out wonder, what was the name of the song that you play with tremolo at 5.30. was it zeppelin? Thank you.
Great amp, great demo and great playing. I purchased this amp based on this video and several in-store play-throughs and it's become apparent to me that in order to achieve these killer-tones as displayed you have to CRANK IT. I play a pretty large loud-stage event every week and I can't imagine blasting it at these volumes (Master rolled all the way back and the Normal/Top-Boost rolled the same). Any suggestions of achieving the same result with less volume?
@FiveironFlores - Awww come on, it's not THAT loud! Just turn it up. Seriously though, that's the only way to get a tube amp to sound like it should...turn it up and get those power tubes working. You might consider looking into some sort of an attenuator. Weber makes a number of fine models that go between power amp and speaker, allowing you to get some tube saturation at lower volumes. They're not a perfect solution, but in general they work pretty well. Hope that helps. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos WHOAAAA!!!! Tell you what I did for my C1 (which I bought because of this video, too): got me an Eminence Reign Maker. Has a built in mechanical attenuator, and goes from sensitivity 91.5 dBa to 100 dBa. I now crank everything to FULL ON ROCK and it sings out at bedroom levels. TOTALLY worth it!!!!
@ProGuitarShopDemos Ok, so when my flatmates come to complain about the noise I'll bust them over the head with the guitar and tell them Andy told me to do it :)
@FiveironFlores Well an attenuator would allow you to crank the amp without being load if that makes any sense. you can find demos of attenuators on this website... they can be a little pricy but if you want the sweet tones without the volume check it out
this demo convinced me to buy the amp, but i can't get a good tone out of the top boost channel to save my life. individual notes sound great but full chords are muddy and the low E string just falls apart. maybe it's just my guitar, but i doubt it. anyone else have trouble with the top boost?
Just purchased this amp today cant wait til it gets here ...I bought it because of this demo thanks Andy .your demos rock and you are one hell of a guitar player .
"Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" by The Buzzcocks, written by Pete Shelley. Great song, Andy plays the intro (based on an E major chords) a few seconds before the chord riff comes in. Great demos, but I'm afraid Andy would sound great throught the crappiest amp in the universe... such a smart player.
Thumbs up for Bad Finger's "no matter what" in the intro... an EPIC song that is quite obscure

definitely a keeper- loud and clean but nice and stable; i'm scared to take master volume and channel volume all the way to 11 like the vid

can you get that same cranked overdrive out of the ac30 c2, i am more interrested in the roar then the clean. i have the opportunity of getting a ac30 c2 for about the same price as the ac15
nairblink 8 months ago
@nairblink - Yes, the tone will be very similar. The AC30 will be noticeably louder at the same "roar" level however, due to the higher wattage and extra speaker. Thanks!

@ProGuitarShopDemos but i mean you wont get it at reasonnable volume you have to crank it all the way?
nairblink 8 months ago
@nairblink - Depends on what you mean by "reasonable"....The Master Volume should offer you some flexibility, but in general the AC30 is a pretty loud amplifier. You need to turn it up to get the tonez. It's not a good choice for a bedroom practice amp.

@ProGuitarShopDemos full volume or 'cranked' will the ac 15 be loud enough for shows?
nairblink 8 months ago
Do you equalize (or anything) the clips that you record of the amps with that mic ?
adam10603 8 months ago
@adam10603 - Nope. No EQ on the videos. If you take your time with guitar / amp setup and mic placement you shouldn't need equalization. We did a Scoop video on our recording process if you want to know more about it. Thanks!

is the overall sounding of this amp almost or similar to the VOX AC15CC1?
jedaxel 8 months ago
do you think this amp would work with an ibanez rg. Im lookin round for a new amp but i like my guitar. My rg has passive pickups and isn't a total metal machine.

Whats the difference between c1 and c2... which is better?
jon109kick 8 months ago
I'm looking around for a nice combo that's portable and loud enough to take to the pub for gigs with the band without having to take the car :P
This seems to make all the right noises but is it loud enough for pubgigs?
We're a 4 piece band with just drums, bass and 1 guitarplayer, we play alternative rock mixed with punk... but with an indie flavour to it, so nothing to heavy gain-wise.
holyshiteater 9 months ago

I love AC30's but is this (backfriendly) AC15 loud enough for a punk/indie rock band situation?
holyshiteater 9 months ago
Hey Andy great demo on this amp.Quick question mate - What's the amp volume setting like usually on these demos? Do you usually set the guitar volume full on to 10? or where do you leave the guitar volume knob on most of the time? Cheers!
trojanadm1980 9 months ago

FiveironFlores 10 months ago

Theonlymoog 9 months ago
@ProGuitarShopDemos Ok, so when my flatmates come to complain about the noise I'll bust them over the head with the guitar and tell them Andy told me to do it :)
Abs9106 8 months ago
@FiveironFlores Well an attenuator would allow you to crank the amp without being load if that makes any sense. you can find demos of attenuators on this website... they can be a little pricy but if you want the sweet tones without the volume check it out
jon109kick 9 months ago
@jon109kick You'd have to have this hooked up to an extension cab in order to use an attenuator as there is no fx loop

this demo convinced me to buy the amp, but i can't get a good tone out of the top boost channel to save my life. individual notes sound great but full chords are muddy and the low E string just falls apart. maybe it's just my guitar, but i doubt it. anyone else have trouble with the top boost?

"Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" by The Buzzcocks, written by Pete Shelley. Great song, Andy plays the intro (based on an E major chords) a few seconds before the chord riff comes in. Great demos, but I'm afraid Andy would sound great throught the crappiest amp in the universe... such a smart player.
