I wanted to ask you something: if plugged directly yo my audio device, is there any vst software capable to give it a good warm sound? I mean, a good vst preamp, a simulator of well known preamp.. Thank you!
@WinterExile There are several plug ins to help you fatten the recording and DSP cards with emulations of great hardware. Universal Audio has some of the best emulations.. There is a plug-ins called vintage warmer - Cubase has a legacy plug-in called Magneto to saturate the signal like tape recorders.
My fav. are the NEVE and SSL console emulations. I had many tube pre-amps before but I got rid of them.. I use now the pre-amps on my audio interface (MR816 CSX) and the DIGIMAX FS pre. + VSTs
@girotube I'm not too sure of what i understood, there are so much strange names there! ahahah but thank you for your answer, i'll surely check it out in a while
WHen I zoom in on each plug in, you can see the settings I used on each one of them.. THe 1973 EQ plug-in is the one doing the magic...
Visit Stillwell Audio for some cool VST to download for free but if you keep using them please help the developers... Its not a crack site.. Try VIBE EQ and 1973.. they also have MajorTom and Rocket compressors..
The thing is that I had that video from some green screen test that I did but the video was not shot for this mic demo hahah so it looks crazy LOL.
I hope to continue but I will shoot the SM57 much better. BUt I will keep it hyper and with the high voice LOL. I did all the voices and I was really LOL dubbing...
THIS VIDEO ID HILARIOUS MAN!! I STILL USE 57 IN STUDIO FOR LOTS OF THINGS, EVEN FOR THE AMPLIFIER I USE ONE GOOD TUBE NEUMANN( U 87 Ai ) TO CAPTURE ALL THE FEELING OF THE GT-AMPLIFIER AND I USE ONE SURE 57 TO CAPTURE THAT UNIQUE MID HIGH RANGE FREQUENCIES THAT CAN JUST PUT THE GUITAR SOUND RIGHT, IT JUST WORKS PERFECT MAN, LOVE THIS MICRO FOR EVER AND EVER--LOL HE IS MINE!!LOL, KEEP IT UP, BUT DONT FORGET THAT YOUR FAT SON IS VERY VERY VERY A GOOD ONE TOO--LOL CHEERS
Hey man that is a really awesome sound your getting from that great mic.
I would really appreciate it if you could do a video showing the mic position, placement, etc. of the SM57 and the processing you have done with the VST's
thanks a bunch mate, ill check them out! =) you are really helpful! btw, what usb interfaces/ soundcards/ pre-amp do you recommend to use with this? if you know any that works well?
lol this video was funny man lol ur laugh is funny stuff, lol and those drums acutally sound great. they are very punchy nice attack for just a sm on the bass. u really showed that sm57 does kik ass
Nice video! I can see the SM57 working great for a rock or punkish sounding kick. However it's still missing the "oomph" that I like to hear for a metal kick drum. Not bad at all though. This proves that the SM57 is a very versatile mic that can be used for any application.
Great Video!. I run a studio in this area and I dont have a single sm 57. I have 2 beta 57's tho and they work sick on the snare.I want another just to have it around.but maybe I'll get an sm 57 too it doesnt sound too bad!
lol hysterical

@antoineahnmusic
SM57 has been used as a vocal mic in the studio for decades.. If the sound fits the music, you will have no problems..
Sting uses it for his vocals..

Tell me please, what's difference between SM57 and SM57 beta. Thanks.
AlexMalishev 2 years ago
SM57:
Frequency response 40 to 15,000 Hz
Cardioid
Beta 57A:
Frequency response 50 to 16,000 Hz
Supercardioid
Both are great. The B.57A is a better version of the legend SM57.
With the supercardioid polar pattern you get less ambiance and more direct sound also prevents feedback better.
for $39 more I would get the beta 57a
Its a shure mic! You cant go wrong no matter which one you get. Some engineers are very sentimental and rather have the old stuff, like me. haha!

Ha ha! SM57 are so great. Introduced in 1966 and still going strong! Have several of them and A Beta 52 A too for bass.

what all mics have you used on this drum recording ?
toms ?
overheads ?
thanks !
rij666 2 years ago
Overheads KSM109
Toms Audix D series D2 D 4
SM57 top snare, Sennheiser 421 bottom snare.. No mic on the hi hats.
girotube 2 years ago
the shure sm57 seems very good. but is there any better? for micing amps?
marcusmarkmus 2 years ago
there are many but for the money the SM57 will do the job.. try different pos.
If you want to use a U87 go for it! that would be a better "choise" but $3,000 ? mmh! $99 does the job as you can see and hear.. hehe!
God Bless!
girotube 2 years ago
thanks for fast answer mate! =) are there really nothing between $99 and $3,000? =p
I think im gonna go for the shure, but i just wanna know what the next level is! =)
marcusmarkmus 2 years ago
Sennheiser 609
Sennheiser MD 421
or anything that captures the sound you are looking for....
My KSM32 does just about anything in the studio too!

hey nice vid was the mic in the kick drum? would it still sound good out side of a non ported kick drum?
rox12333 2 years ago
hi! the SM57 is half way in the port hole..
No hole?: depends on how big the kick is and doing a lot of low freq boosting... Also loose tuning to move more air
girotube 2 years ago
its just a 22 i have another head with a port just didnt want to change but if it sounds better than thats what im going to do thanks for the help

Captnuendo 3 years ago
on this video? I like the SM 57 better hahah what a cool mic it is!
I have a bout 4 kick mics. This little guy does the same job and the sound is perfect.. tight.
When the processing kicks in, sounds like the fat beta 52. ALso I'm not using any sub harmonics to boost the mic, just plain boost and cut EQing'
I will send you the audio clips.
Stillwell 1973 EQ is nicce, very nice.
get the free avaluation VST. but you need CUBASE hehe. PT8? don't think they have rtas version.
cheers.
