The 747 does not usually pull a "plow" they don't make one big enough. So they used what they could in the exhibition.
Last I heard it was and probably still is on a large wheat farm in Northern MT.
When working, pulling a huge chisel plow it tills an acre a minute and is very efficient.
Those of you who would whine about carbon foot prints and other such propaganda just remember where the wheat came from the next time you bite into a piece of bread.
Anyone notice it doesn't have any for of lights in the front like headlights? If you're going to invest in the big of machinery, I'd expect you'd want it to run all day long if possible. $500,000 tractor.. can't afford $300 for lights!
@montravius100 you are the stupidest person in the world obviously they are going to put the biggest one they have behind big bud because nothing else can pull it

seems a bit wasteful if it can only pull 15 bottoms @ 1000hp - my 85hp tractor can pull 5 bottoms. Perhaps the problem is no company has built a plow bigger than 15 bottoms...
That Big Bud is truly impressive. Saw one once when I made a service call on some carrot, beet, and potato harvesters in Florida. The farmer had about 1300 acres of carrots, sugar beets, and potatoes and used the Big Bud (his was a factory prototype rated 980 Hp) to pull a custom-built homemade chisel plow/ripper that was *90* feet wide. It didn't even act like it knew the ripper was there. Insane.
WOW....these are small 2 the one hunsaker farms had in WS. This JD tractor had 16 tires & could pull 5 plows. To begin with these tractors are thirty years old and there is ALOT more technology involved in making a diesel engine produce clean power these days. 2nd, you have got to realize that farming is a game of efficiency, you have got to get the most done with the time that you have.
Honestly we are now having to add sulphur to fertilizer for our soils wheras used to it came in the rain from the diesel, and coal outputs, diesel particulate is really not that big a deal in the rural areas and with all these new emmisions crap we burn more fuel than before!! How is that supposed to be benificial?
I dont know where the stupid idea that the black smoke comes out because the transmission changes came from, but thats completely wrong. I dont know if you've never driven a tractor before, but while sitting in neutral a tractor will blow black smoke just from throttling up, such as a stripper or picker when you rev up the engine to begin a new set of rows, and i'm pretty sure while in neutral there is no transmission involved.
@rroberts111 well when it shifts its the same as revving the engine when its in neutral, i think thats what they meant by saying the trans is making it do that
@MrShine100 those are actually Rhinos or mules, not golf carts city boy, and no consider its probably really muddy where the tractors are plowing there is no reason to walk through mud if you could just drive over instead
@MrShine100 NO ONE wants to walk for miles at that event and most people who are driving them are disabled or they would have a heart attack if they walked too much no joke
@MrShine100 ok u can drag the plow and till the dirt for crops hope u got alot of torque cause ur gonna need it not everyone sits at a desk and is the bosses bitch boy some folks actually grow stuff for a living
We need to make more tractors the size and power of the Big Bud 16V 747 to handle the ever-increasing demands of today's and the future's ever-bigger farms and ranches. By the way, what is the size of the tyres/tires and wheels on the Big Bud 16V 747? And what is the Big Bud 16V 747's top speed? I understand that almost all tractors today can go >50 km/hour (>31 MPH) and many can exceed 60-70 km/hour (38-45 MPH). In fact, a few tractors can exceed 80 km/hour (50 MPH) in top gear.
@huntertank90 WHAT THE HECK YOU TALKNG ABOUT AMERICAN TRUCKS BLAH BLAH!!!!! lol just kidding i like the new tundra but i think ill stick with my f150 until she quits
so ya'll are makin a big ass deal about what the big bud is pulling first off does anyone here have bigger plow? or a bigger tillage implement? I seriously doubt it. second off, the big bud was built in a diffferant age, when it was built nobody cared about diesel emmissions.
Monsanto is one of the worlds most dangerous companies genetically mutating seeds and people are still worried about this global warming fairytale...oh i'm sorry its now "global climate disruption" to attempt to repackage their scam onto humanity when the next earthquake or hurricane rears its head
get it thru your smoke filled heads the seasons are SUPPOSED TO CHANGE.....SALMON ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MATURE IN HALF THE TIME ALL OF A SUDDEN AND IT BE CALLED"NOT UNUSUAL"
@teecuzbruh ur very smart and i agree with you we start a movement some how i dunno wat we can do though "DDT is good for me" Agent orange the'll kill us all
@G2thefarmer actually when DDT was sprayed to kill the mosquitos in an attempt to prevent malaria, nobody was truly hurt, tests showed that it truly didn't affect anybody. As usual though people like you and the media only try to portray bad things about everything, failed attempts to try to prevent illness, or farming, the very thing that sustains your very life today.
@rroberts111 goin to have to disagree buddy I just think farming should be in a sustainable way so our kids have something to farm to. I live/work on a farm so why would i wan2 make it look bad.
that black smoke is almost always parifine wax in the fuel with a small amount of unburned diesel its not near as bad a two stroke moped moving a fat 14 yr old boy when its pulling or plowing with 100,000 pnds of force u dumb hippy tree huggers
just so you know diesel engines put off less polution than a gas engine just by burning fuel better and using less fuel so all you people that think that think this tractor is poluting the environment just think about polution every time you start your car ass holes
In proportion to the work they do a big tractor probably makes less pollution than several little ones doing the same amount of work? In any case, a burst of black smoke when the transmission changes up doesn't necessarily mean the engine is inefficient all the time - its only because the fuel input is momentarily out of balance with the engine revs! Watch the exhausts - in most cases they are clear once the engine sorts itself and adjusts to the increased load.
@Manorfarmdenton yes i totally agree with you, and to those that think these are pollution monsters, they are in a way... these are not new state of the art tractors... these are 30 + year old machines... lots have changed for the better, when has a v16 detroit diesel ever been fuel friendly ?? keep in mind also that not many top tractors of today can even think of doing the work that these units can either...
These big bud tractors are rubbish, 2 stroke revving at around 6000 rpm to pull a plow, you would need a very understanding bank manager to own one of those, the engine would want rebuilding every 2000 hours, stick with a four stroke, plow less than 1600 rpm for years.. pmsl big bud... big joke.
@neiltce the 2 stroke diesels red line at like 2200 give or take a few hundered rpms and they last longer than 2000 hours so get ur facts strait before you start talking crap
@neiltce You're completely wrong about the revs (around 2000, and a lot slower than a lot of 4-stroke diesels) and about the rebuilding. GM Detroit Diesels are amongst the most reliable and long-lived engines ever built. Why else were they used in trucks and buses, cranes and tractors, generators and boats etc etc etc. They are superb engines - I have had several, including one in a 1963 Chamberlain tractor which is as good as the day it was built.
Sounds like a waste of fuel to me, 2 stroke diesel engines have very little low end torque... a 4 stroke engine would the best choice for a traction engine
Thx for making this kind of stupid big bud thing up, therefor we have summer at the north pole... ;) God damn, is that useful? But that´s what a lot of people think, about the american way of life, bigger is better... By the way, german engineers would build such a thing with half of the engine and quarter of the weight... ;)

whats a toyota doing anything near big bud
ShoeRyan 1 year ago
We need to make more tractors the size and power of the Big Bud 16V 747 to handle the ever-increasing demands of today's and the future's ever-bigger farms and ranches. By the way, what is the size of the tyres/tires and wheels on the Big Bud 16V 747? And what is the Big Bud 16V 747's top speed? I understand that almost all tractors today can go >50 km/hour (>31 MPH) and many can exceed 60-70 km/hour (38-45 MPH). In fact, a few tractors can exceed 80 km/hour (50 MPH) in top gear.

so ya'll are makin a big ass deal about what the big bud is pulling first off does anyone here have bigger plow? or a bigger tillage implement? I seriously doubt it. second off, the big bud was built in a diffferant age, when it was built nobody cared about diesel emmissions.

get it thru your smoke filled heads the seasons are SUPPOSED TO CHANGE.....SALMON ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MATURE IN HALF THE TIME ALL OF A SUDDEN AND IT BE CALLED"NOT UNUSUAL"

@teecuzbruh ur very smart and i agree with you we start a movement some how i dunno wat we can do though "DDT is good for me" Agent orange the'll kill us all
G2thefarmer 1 year ago
@G2thefarmer actually when DDT was sprayed to kill the mosquitos in an attempt to prevent malaria, nobody was truly hurt, tests showed that it truly didn't affect anybody. As usual though people like you and the media only try to portray bad things about everything, failed attempts to try to prevent illness, or farming, the very thing that sustains your very life today.
rroberts111 1 year ago
@rroberts111 goin to have to disagree buddy I just think farming should be in a sustainable way so our kids have something to farm to. I live/work on a farm so why would i wan2 make it look bad.

that black smoke is almost always parifine wax in the fuel with a small amount of unburned diesel its not near as bad a two stroke moped moving a fat 14 yr old boy when its pulling or plowing with 100,000 pnds of force u dumb hippy tree huggers
MrStrokerace69 1 year ago 3
just so you know diesel engines put off less polution than a gas engine just by burning fuel better and using less fuel so all you people that think that think this tractor is poluting the environment just think about polution every time you start your car ass holes
MrHandyandy10187 1 year ago
In proportion to the work they do a big tractor probably makes less pollution than several little ones doing the same amount of work? In any case, a burst of black smoke when the transmission changes up doesn't necessarily mean the engine is inefficient all the time - its only because the fuel input is momentarily out of balance with the engine revs! Watch the exhausts - in most cases they are clear once the engine sorts itself and adjusts to the increased load.
Manorfarmdenton 1 year ago 13
@Manorfarmdenton yes i totally agree with you, and to those that think these are pollution monsters, they are in a way... these are not new state of the art tractors... these are 30 + year old machines... lots have changed for the better, when has a v16 detroit diesel ever been fuel friendly ?? keep in mind also that not many top tractors of today can even think of doing the work that these units can either...

@forgotab wow did you see the lady in red she has the big boomies of the Big Bud
Henkaugust62 1 year ago
These big bud tractors are rubbish, 2 stroke revving at around 6000 rpm to pull a plow, you would need a very understanding bank manager to own one of those, the engine would want rebuilding every 2000 hours, stick with a four stroke, plow less than 1600 rpm for years.. pmsl big bud... big joke.
neiltce 1 year ago
@neiltce the 2 stroke diesels red line at like 2200 give or take a few hundered rpms and they last longer than 2000 hours so get ur facts strait before you start talking crap
volff130 1 year ago
@volff130 ooooh you do have your knickers in a twist dont you.. pmsfl
neiltce 1 year ago
@neiltce no i dont but ur going around giving out fauls facts...or you just dont now so u make stuff up! either way your wrong
volff130 1 year ago

By the way, german engineers would build such a thing with half of the engine and quarter of the weight... ;)
