I enjoyed this so much! Asparagus is so yummy! but Kemushichan, please please do my the favor of telling me what the heck ~と思う For example, when you said 紹介したいと思います。 Does that mean you think you want to introduce to us the asparagus?
Sorry, but it's just that when I translate Japanese, it is rather literal.
@Chichiri520 Sure! :) In this case, it's a set phrase used to soften statements in more formal situations. It's kinda of like, "~ wo shoukai shimasu" ("Now I'll introduce ~!") and "~ wo happyou shimasu" ("Now I'll announce ~") vs. "~wo shoukai shitai to omoimasu" ("Now I'd like to intoduce ~",) and "wo happyou shitai to omoimasu" ("Now I'd like to announce~"). It sort of softens and refines how you sound to someone when presenting or offering something :).
What a "coincidence"! (as if I believe in those lol) I have some asparagus in my fridge and used some to make a spaghetti sauce last night! I will definitely use this recipe, thanks for sharing! :D
However, I don't have "kyupi" (or is it kyup?)... so they'll just be dry, I guess.
Great video! Kemushi, you are the perfect YouTuber! Not only do you educate viewers on Japanese language, culture and etiquette, but you've just shown us how to make some asparagus, all in Japanese. Keep up the good work and thank you for the videos. They really help, a lot. :)
Just wanted to say thanks for the quality content and for taking the time to subtitle your videos. They're both entertaining and can double as study material! You rock. Keep it up! :)
@JapaneseAmericanGuy Sumimasen!! Sumimasen!!! Let me explain. When you sign into yahoo, you are automatically linked to yahoo/google account. For example, when I am signed into yahoo, that account applies to anything google related such as a youtube account. Anyway, somehow I was confused which account I was signed into and deleted my comment from this one because I thought I was signed into my other account. I will repost the original comment!!!
I think this is my new fav video. What a great job! I love that you introduced new vocabulary, yet cooking is a topic that is fairly easy to understand/follow along with. Please do more cooking videos like this! <3
Looks delicious, I learned the tip about breaking them a few years ago, works well hey? I think many people will find that very helpful when cooking fresh asparagus. What a great snack, I like how you did the oil and s&p in the oven, looks like a nice way to eat them. I miss large ovens like that, the ones in Japan are so small =(
@FindMeInKurume @_@ seriously?! I never peeked at the ovens .... well, I mean it's not like i was roasting an entire garden of asparagus so I guess downsizing is ok... plus energy-wise it would be more efficient to not heat up the whole shebang~
@kemushichan Never seen an oven that size here before, everyone uses those little hotplate type with the tiny little door with only enough room to cook one little fish. It's really tough to make my lasagna and tuna casserole I used to make in Canada. You are very lucky to have that, it's hard to cook anything here that requires an oven.
I love strawberries, but the asparagus and chicken was it? I'm not sure, it looked delicious! I should try it sometimes XD I love the music you use for the videos... it matches so well :^D Thanks for making this video! <3
@pokemongurl93 Haha yup! Aspara + CHICKEN. I was going to make rice too but I was making this video as my dinner after work and I was starving! I should've just made rice... The chicken is just baked the same way (olive oil, salt / pepper + a little bit of minced garlic) and baked at 375 till its browned. Thank you! I write all the music for my videos so I'm glad to hear it fits ! :)
Omg yes I love your videos!!! Sorry I accidentally clicked flag as inappropriate first because I'm posting this through my broken iPhone and can barely see anything. It doest do anything though i think
Your Japanese is really good! I want to learn Japanese but my high school doesn't offer Japanese :( do u hav anyy tips? My mom is Japanese so I can make some short sentences from her teaching but she really isn't a good teacher.
@littleblackwolf3 Yeah! I normally hate vegetables, WHEN OTHER PEOPLE PREPARE THEM. They tend to be overcooked, or not the best tasting. BUT if you eat them in season, and prepare them very simply (don't over boil, don't slather in whatever..) normally just baking or lightly steaming with olive oil, salt/pepper makes them delicious. GRILLING vegetables is absolutely delicious!
@kemushichan yep ^.^ I love my veggies steamed cooked or grilled ~.^ my mom has a bad habit of boiling vegetables, especially the frozen stuff. the frozen stuff has enough water in it. but yeah, it doesn't take much to make vegetables enjoyable to eat ^.^
@littleblackwolf3 NICE!! Hrmm... I hope she doesn't boil them TOO long because boiling actually takes all the nutrients OUT of the vegetables (I learned this the hard way and showed my mom).
@kemushichan she did when we were younger by accident a few times, but she doesn't do it as much as she used to. my cousin and I sometimes take over the kitchen when it's time to cook ~.^
I started to type before the video ended to say, don't forget the kewpie mayo. I love kewpie mayo and now they sell fat free, cholesterol free kewpie mayo. Can't taste the difference between regular and the fat free kewpie, so I can now feel free to really smear it on.

Great editing, pacing, music etc. as always.
You know you can peel off the hard outer skin on the bottom third of the asparagus stalks with a peeler and then eat them without cutting them off.
The ground salt was a nice touch. And, since moving to Japan, I ALWAYS eat asparagus with mayonnaise now (kyuupi of course).
I also agree with you that a nice aspect of Japanese culture is their appreciation of eating seasonal foods.
geofg 9 months ago
@geofg is that what the peeling's about! perhaps that cuts down on waste! ;) Next time!!!
