Ah, splendid! A year ago I had a good time watching your LP of Police Quest 2 on the more quieter christmas vacation days - I'm glad I found your channel again, as I started this year with distinction, having watched the SQ6 videos, and I'm really looking forward to this series as well! I usually watch a couple of your videos before going to bed, has been a great way to end the day. :) Best of 2012 to you!
Hello again, Sven! It's been a long time since the last time I left a comment. What to say about this game that hasn't been said before? It's an amazing and thrilling interactive novel, the music is great, the story is outstanding, the CD voices are awesome... One of those adventures you would like to replay every once in a while.
If this game's approach to relationships is anything like 90% of the anime I've watched, Grace is Gabriel's long-term love interest. The belligerent sexual tension in the air is so thick you can lay on it.
Not mentioned in the comments yet - Rocky Carroll from NCIS. I hadn't started watching that show the last time I played this so its a surprise for me.
You know, at first I was annoyed that the protagonist seems to be intentionally unlikable until it occurred to me that the writers probably did that in order to make whatever character development that occurs (I assume there will be) throughout the game more dramatic. Good guy stays good guy = nice, but boring. Jerk becomes good guy = fulfilling and engaging. I like the premise already. Good choice!
Sven, you know who the narrator reminds me of? Kendra the Slayer from Buffy. She (i.e. the narrator) definitely has a cajun accent, which is a mix of French, Native American and African dialects, and I think it's very appropriate for the setting of the game. I would never have guessed that GK was Tim Curry, though. Looking forward to watching this!
I'm glad you're doing this! One of my favorite games ever (though now that I'm older I have some problems with the game... it is still very nostalgic.) I like the narrator too, which seems to be unusual as I've found most people can't stand her. Oh well.
oh my word. I didn't realize Mark Hamill ever did voice acting. Seeing his name in the credits was probably the biggest shock the game could give me. This should be very interesting!
@Jono98806 Only after the 3rd or 4th sequel. I think the pre FMV era games just had you playing as *insert your own name* pilot in the confederation. I don't remember if the old ones ever had voice acting though... I just had to make do with a PC speaker. ;p
@DEFkon001 WC2 had some voice acting in the introduction, and for the in-flight comms during missions (like the taunts and such), but Mark Hamill didn't voice blue-hair (as the player character was known inside Origin before he was given a name in WC3; naming him Blair was a play on the blue-hair thing).
@RoseErifnosi Mark Hamill has done quite a lot of voice acting. His most famous role is that of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. He also voices Ripburger in Full Throttle, one of my favourite Lucasarts games.
I received this and Quest for Glory IV in a Sierra bundle as a kid, and the two games remain my favorite Sierra games of all time. (I also got King's Quest V, but we'll not speak of that.) I'm glad to see you playing it, Sven.
The soundtrack for this game is one of my favorites, with particular favorites the music theme (played during the credits), the music in that intro scene when Gabriel enters the office, and another one that we will be hearing later on.
I don't feel that positive for Tim Curry's voicing Gabriel Knight. Perhaps it's because I originally played the game without speech, and in my head Gabriel sounded like a more likeable/less arrogant/pompous character.
Thanks for this Let's Play. I was never able to solve it even with a written walkthrough (maybe my very low vision makes adventures more like "hidden objet games" for me ...)
I instantly recognized Grace's voice. I know Leah Remini mainly from the King of Queens. It's always interesting to see what previous work actors have done, especially when you're not expecting them to be there.
Looks to be an interesting Let's Play, I look forward to more.
DARN IT! I lost the bet! :( I was sure after a dystopian game like Blade Runner you would not play GK directly, cause it has a dark tone as well. But I was wrong.....
This means xmas duty for the children xmas party :( (One has to watch all the consoles it they still work or start smoking from overuse. I hoped to get some time to play myself but thats out of the windows now)
Well, atleast the game is now beaten by a pro gamer. Serves it right for stealing my weeks back at college!

I believe that in real life Grace would've soiled herself in fear after that ultra-creepy exchange at 11:59

*Reads the cast of voice acting.*
...so for this Sierra game we have a killer clown, a Jedi, and a Klingon security chief. Plus other voice actors I know. :O
And on top of all that, the main character is a horror novelist? Something I want to be someday?
This game is gonna rock. :O
(Edited from deleted last post because I made a shameful mistake identifying one of them.)

What OS do you play these games on?

@TheSoldiersMind I run them in DOSBox, which runs on nearly any OS. But I use Windows 7 x64, for the record.

Gabriele's is a bit strange and overdone though.

Oh, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Sven!!!
This is going to be so great! Another point-and-click adventure classic and Your methodical treatment. That's an equation full of positives.
I like the narrator a lot, it definitely fits with the environment.
Also, You should totally use all the control icons on Gabriel and Grace, not just a few of them.

For anyone who likes this story and a good read, Jane Jenson's GK novels are really good too. As is her latest book, Dante's Equation.
