  • Le futur à portée de main! Mes murs adapteront leur luminosité pour ne pas gêner mes pingouins volants, que je contrôlerai par la voix. Hmmm... "Emmène moi au deuxième étage en volant s'il te plait"

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • Think of the posibilities in modern warfare...

  • I think the phrase "hauntingly beautiful" is over-used, but the silver penguin blimps serenely navigating that atrium totally warrant its use.

They need to make flying dolphins!

  • the penguin is amazing

  • I know a guy who has this technology. He has extra sensory hearing and can see thru walls. No he's not called Steve Autsin, he's called Steven Ward

  • This is simply amazing.

    Just... Freaking amazing!

  • Da ich als Künstler das Thema Kunst und Technik bearbeite, fasziniert mich die Eleganz und Schönheit Ihren Beiträge ganz besonders! Vielen Dank Heinrich Eder

  • Orientate? Sorry, no such word!

  • @TheGadgetWorks WHAT? yes there is, it's standard in British English!

  • Looks to me they are just Helium filled.

  • Flying Penguins. The Penguins have found their banner. Humanity is screwed.

  • Penguins can't fly. Unless they're robots.

  • no shit Sherlock.

  • no more gold fish more mine robot penguins

  • human reaction on new technology is as divergent as it has always been. But consequences on life is getting pretty badass.

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone Seen Bladerunner, or read the novel by PK Dick?

  • 1:07 are this thing flying and it said that the micro control gives the penguin to move on there own (free will )hahahah what a GREAT invention

  • MMMMM is that nutella?

  • ok.

so we got much new technology.

we can start the WW3 now.

    no. just a joke.

the water robots from festo are better like your boat.

  • Why is philosophy being argued on a video about ROBOT PENGUINS? That seems awesome enough that you wouldn't think about that now.

  • they are stuffing guns into that penguins right now

  • LMAO true!

  • PENGUINS CAN FLY!

  • wow awesome!

  • Let's get rid of the original penguins, these are better and can do more. xD

  • WOW! Those flying/floating penguins were madly beautiful! I want one xD

    "Nietzsche is DEAD!" -God, hehe

  • God is dead. *insert remainder of Nietzsche quote here*

  • Im just thinking on strapping a camera on such a vessel and go explore!

  • cyberdyne systems!!!

  • Hahah awesome penguins!

  • Military applications is all I can think of. and perhaps a better way to build an airplane of the future

  • the best masterpieces always balance inbetween complexity and simplicity

  • omg anyone else thinking army of flying robot penguins is the apocalypse ahhhhh!!!

  • huwoo

    a flying penguin

    what next?

    a flying fish?

    nice though

  • Whatever, couldn't even understand most of that anyway, so whatever, this quarrel is over anything else you send to me I'm not going to reply to.

  • And if you live in London why do you spell things like a Jamaican, (no offense to Jamaicans) and act so patriotically about your so called amerigas, real name is America in case you did not know.

  • Antiochus66, please for your own sake and the sake of those around you, contact a nearby mental institute. For your own health, oh and by the way learn to spell.

  • antiochus66, what the hell are you talking about!?

  • I think I prefer either the real thing, or the one covered in chocolate.

Mind you it's all very clever.

  • Flying penguins? We are so screwed!!!!

  • Great, now the military will use this company to build more devastating weapons. Fuck

  • Two words: sky whales

  • cool! people , dont be a technofobs :))

  • these robots are to be used in the future for civilian control dummy

  • When I take over the world,my moats will be guarded by these robotic penguins, each one equipped with multiple spear-guns :-).

  • @reheheeeally you sure that the robot penguis wont be the ones taking over the world?

  • @reheheeeally And when I challenge you for supremacy over the world, I will take out your moat penguins with my robotic sea lions, each equipped with ultra light armor plating and ninja star guns.

  • @reheheeeally is it a bad sign that i was just thinking the same thing before i read your comment?

  • the air-penguin is so cool

  • LOL YA IT ROCKS

  • but can it run Linux?

  • HEHE. Cute

  • Wow. These could be used in a theme-park, or in an ofice or mall-atrium as moving art. These remind me of Galactor's robot animals in GATCHAMAN, or BATTLE OF THE PLANETS. Wow. It finally is the 21st century!

  • The point is research and development. We didn't start with the car, first we worked out transmission mechanics, the internal combustion engine etc etc... The principles learned by making these "flying penguins" can be implemented in future practical projects by scientists worldwide.

  • simple: Create machines that can explore those places that will forever be unreachable to us because of our biologic nature. We can either take to paths: genetic engineering or bionic mechanics(which is portrayed on the video.) Personally, I prefer the latter; your opinion is of course yours to take.

  • well ya i also like the more mechanical robot but the ballon ones are the one i do not like, i mean they are in a controlled enviroment (zero wind) so they are weak, i mean you can devolp the anti collision robotics while using just one type of the robo there is no need for the water and air, i mean they both occupie the same demesions, execpt the water actually has to work to get where it goes. its just there not impressive but to each there own. a single gust of 10 mph wiind and its gone.

  • youre a fucking moron

  • Cyberdine Systems would be a better name for this company :)

  • YES

  • no Skynet would be a better name for this company

  • skynet is the product Cyberdine Systems is the company

  • Festo doesn't seem to be working on AGI here.

  • I believe you meant the Hanso Foundation

  • Cool.

  • Sure. SkyNet doesn't want its future OS to be BS.

  • people are so skeptical because american robotics is so far behind. all americans know about are car fabricating robots or the fake ones they see in movies. come on america, if you'd stop trying to get your exposure of the world from mtv, you might actually be enlightened.

  • The only reason I, as an American, questioned the video is because of the visual aesthetic, not a disbelief in the (not even that impressive) tech. Seriously, how difficult can it be for a mechatronics company to attach a nav system and fins to what's essentially just a balloon? The reason I question it is because parts of it looked CGId... some of the images of the AirPenguins appearing a little too hidef while at the same time casting slightly misaligned reflections of their surroundings.

  • I'll be the first to admit I'm probably wrong about the CGI, I was just asking. Also? Seeing as how our economy was once bolstered by our automotive industry, a great many Americans are more likely to associate "robots" with the automations that replaced them on the assembly line and led to thousands of layoffs. Not exactly the MOST sophisticated form of robotics, but still a step up from the toys they use on "Robot Wars", no?

  • Although, putting aside auto fabrication (which cant seriously be placed in the same category as the "robot wars" toys), a lot of us are becoming more acutely aware of medical robotics and battlefield robotics, as well... what with this whole "war" we got mixed up in. Like, I'm sorry that we haven't made better flying robot penguins... I guess we're admittedly behind the times on giant, flying robot penguin market... but aside from that? I'd say we're doing OK.

  • Dude stop talking please.

  • Went off the deep end, didn't I?

Sorry bout' that. Believe me, waaaay to much time to kill being bored in class.

  • American Robotics is not far behind. America originated this technology. But Americans, thru apathy, have allowed their imaginations, higher brain functions, and sens of wonder to atrophy, whilst others such as the Koreans, the British, the Germans and the Japanese run with the technology we invented. We need more education and interest in science and math in America. This is why science-fiction is so important. We need to stimulate the imagination and sense of wonder.

  • It's called DARPA.

  • Great vid

    (cleanthinking de)

  • Lets hope all their work is 3 laws safe.

  • Now that's the future.

  • I don't understand why people think this is a hoax, or the company isn't real... all you need to do is google "Festo" to find their homepage which describes their projects, goals, partnerships, and products. As adorable as baseless speculation is, since you're already on the internet, maybe you should do a teeny tiny bit of research before being all "hurrrrrr its a fake".

  • people think it's a hoax because most americans don't have a clue of the state of robotics. they think dumb rc cars outfitted with saw blades and flamethrowers are what robots are.

  • Okay, guys... a 1:22?

    Doesn't look a little CGI'd?

    Same with the walls?

Does anybody else get a weird feeling? Is it just me? Or am I pointing out the obvious?

  • I did too... but apparently it's real working example weighing in at 990grams with the help of the helium.

  • If it's a prank, it's a damn cool prank.

So cool, I'm actually willing to suspend skepticism in favor of ooh'ing and aah'ing.

But yeh, you could be right. I just choose not to pay attention. :D

  • beware the skynet penguins

    "duby duby dooo!"

  • I want the singing wall outside like the world's biggest wind chime!

  • This video is SkyNet approved.

  • I'm sorry but Festo is so NOT a pausible name for a company specilaising in making Giand Robotic Flying Penguins for mere fun and profit. It just sounds altogether too jolly and nice, like a toy company or Uncle Festo from the Addams Family. The head of Festo surely strokes a white cat in his lap while he's thinking of these ideas. I warn you all. Beware, be very ware.

  • i wanna robot penguin =3

  • Jesus, FLYING ROBOT PENGUINS!!!!!!

    nothing can stand against them...

  • Veridian Dynamics.

    Robots. Fun.

  • whats next? Damn..creepy..but cool..

  • This is incredible. Hats off to the SHERMANS!. ja!

  • I saw it on the HMI Hannover exhibition - amazing!

  • This reminds me of Massive Dynamic in Fringe. I wonder if there is a conspiracy behind Festo?

  • Festo begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th...

  • haha. awesome

  • This is much cooler than anything I've seen Japan make.

  • self regulating biomechatronic systems....well, obviously!

  • This is fantastic!

  • Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave...

  • ok...so how do they use this to benefit people? artificial limbs?

  • Who cares, it's COOL !!!!

  • It is just for fun...

  • Sorry sir, due to the car crash your legs were horribly mutilated and had to be amputated.

But don't worry, you will have almost normal movement once we have you fitted with some ROBOTIC PENGUINS

    LEGS 2.0 = Robotic Penguins

  • Absolutly amazing!

  • Why did I knew you were german engineers. Schieze!!!

  • Do androids dream of electric penguins?

  • the floating pinguins are some trippy shit.

  • Fucking Penguin army.

  • Now load it with C4 and send it under a Somali pirate boat. Allah-ha-ha-ha-ha Akbar, mofos!

  • no way. i want one for my pool.

  • Holy crap, its Chill Penguin

  • I, for one, welcome our new cyborg penguin overlords

  • They look like the Brains in HL2

  • It's awesome. But this raises the question...do they run on LINUX????

  • A bunch of these flying penguins could lift heavy weights, like a whale...

  • What fail? -_-'

  • fail whale, get it?

  • Mmmm yeah hehe..

  • Only your mom gets done by Africans koksukay ;)

  • haha totally inappropriate but I have to admit it made me laugh like crazy!!!! XDDDD

  • It also wasn't done by Venezuelans or Antarctic researchers or the Swiss or inhabitants of downtown Oxnard, California. Or sillyass racist motherfuckers named koksukay who post bullshit on You Tube.

    Next.

  • There was definitely some German being spoken by one of the guys in a break in the narration.

But yes, those swimming robotic penguins were awesome - probably more impressive than the flying ones.

  • That's a little spooky...

    CYLON PENGUINS! LOL

  • simple technology brilliantly applied.

  • Amzing, got a lot of inspiration from this video, good work scientists from vesto !

  • Flying penguins = Pure awesomeness.

  • I for one welcome and embrace our new penguin overlords!

  • don't mind the flying penguins, we programmed them never to use us as batteries .. don't worry ... really

  • This feels like a commercial you would have seen in a sci-fi movie in the 80's or 90's.

    ~Trav

  • The guy doing the voice-over is a German, you can tell. He's over-modulating the words... that'S why it sounds like an advert from OCP (RoboCop) or something.

  • Your point being...?

  • Sounds British to me. Germans are not exactly known for their "over-modulating".

  • German engineering, dude. German engineering. These are the prototypes for the new cars.

  • New Penguin cars?

  • Very interesting promo.
