  • Dante's wild inferno is the best part, seriously.

  • This should be on iTunes WTF! I will buy it off Amazon this is absolutely classic!

  • i still cant get over this album..

  • @simple21yo this isn't your conversation, just sayin......and i never contradicted myself! who's the pseudo intellectual now? and also it's sad how many videos of girls dancing you have.

  • And also Thordendal in some parts

  • I've had this album for a long time and only now I realize it's actually Tomas Haake providing the spoken vocals

  • Os monstros da musica experimental - Thordendal & Ågren. A junção desses dois só tem um significado: genialidade!

  • One of the most epic metal albums in history!

  • preach me hate, i´m out of personal opinion...

  • @fataloxygen woah... thats pretty fucking metal!

  • Is this Tomas Haake singing?

  • @CoolCoverBro I think so,

  • FUCK YES

  • Have you read the fine print on this CD?....It says "Smoke Before Use"

  • @godsstillbornson will do

  • How could Allmusic give only 3/5 for this album? God, reviewers are really getting crazy

  • @Mariofan7 This album currently gets 4.37/5 on Prog Archives ;)

  • @Progurlife Nice to know. I used to think Allmusic's reviews were pretty accurate, but after seeing this and the 2.5 given to Meshuggah's Catch-33 I think I'm not gonna look into reviews anymore

  • @Mariofan7 sputnikmusic reviews are good

  • Fredrik's new defects album is taking way too long dammit!

  • why.. why did no one ever tell me this existed? I COULD HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS!! all wasted... *weep*

  • @amhaun01 I guess this project was on the down low for a very long time and the album was not available everywhere. Took me about 5 to 7 years before I heard about it. And that was in Israel, you can imagine that it would take longer for it to be discovered in such a culturally remote country.

  • Man, that is some sick shit. I wish it wouldn't be so extremely difficult to purchase this masterpiece. Version 3.33 is the only CD with "Missing Time" on it....

  • @22fret im not sure which version it is but if you didnt know, this album is available on the drummers site, I believe there is a link to the store on Fredriks myspace page.

  • What the fuck is the album cover supposed to be? Its trippin me out

  • I wonder which galaxy Thordendal will go and conquer next.

  • Been listening to Meshuggah for a long time, but I recently discovered "Periphery".. check em out on spotify.. they are absolutely fucking awesome and clearly inspired by Meshuggah and Thordendal

  • @Cambrand Meh, they're okay. I would say Animals as Leaders (Tosin Abasi plays an 8 string like it's his cock) and Tesseract (Moar djent metal) are much more original sounding. Also, check out SikTh, one of the most original bands in the last 10 years. ;)

  • @gibbsies just saw Tesseract the other day with Protest the Hero XD Tesseract was alright but they have nothing on Meshuggah. at all.

  • @lorddresefer Those two were playing by my place not long ago but I didn't find out in time. But I don't really care lol

  • @Cambrand It's called "djent." It's everywhere. Where have you been?

  • Comment removed

  • to jest zajebiste! / it's fuckin amazing!

  • Супер крутая шняга !

  • not a fan of fredrik's vocals but the music kicks ass!

  • @chiknzrule99 tomas haake does the vocals.

  • @jaretthale78 reallly? i didnt know that

  • This shit is ill!

  • 5:29 Crazy shit starts.

  • How do i get this album!?!?

  • @ThatRandomGuy325 eBay or amazon

  • Wtf? is that part from 2:35-305 guitar? That sounds fuckin crazy like an acid trip gone really really bad.5/5

  • @NUmetalage1994 its a keyboard

  • @MrPoli739 Nah. There's like no keyboard on this album. Most is just his guitar magic.

  • Alien Music

  • @cristop001 Truly alien, yes. It prods the mind like some sort of otherworldly substance, something beyond immeditate recognition or sense.

  • This album is such a masterpiece. It splatters the mind's canvas with all sorts of twisted, abstract melodies and visuals. It's easy to get lost in the music, and before you even know it, you're having to hit play again, to start the album over. I can't wait for Special Defects 2!

  • I assumed all listeners of Sol Niger were under the influence...

    argue about drugs

  • Where are the drugs in all this? All I see is a genius

  • Anybody who bitches about drugs had better shut the fuck up before i rip their fucking head off and chew it into a trillion pieces squared. Sober asshole.

  • @Meshuggaaaahhhhh Is the world interesting enough without drugs? Just a question out of curiosity, not insultive.

  • Is it Fredrik singing around 2:15? It sounds kinda black metal-ish.

  • sol "nigger" within?

  • You asshole!! :D

  • all other death technical bands can suck meshuggah's nuts, k?

  • @PrettyLittleMaggot meshuggah has like no death elements but k

  • @PrettyLittleMaggot dude animals as leaders and chimp spanner are fucking tight!!!!! TRUST ME, in the song tempting time pay very close attention to the part with the synthesizer and the hi-hat pattern, there are 2 accents in the begining, play it with your hands and then get mindfucked when you hear what he adds with the kick and snare!!!

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 i like how your name contains slayer....major lolz...

  • Comment removed

  • @jaretthale78 it's been like 5 years since i've listened to that band, lol....my music taste has expanded to pretty much everything, i've probably got better taste than you!(by that i mean the bands i like have skill....and no that doesn't mean fast) just go to my favorited videos on my profile!!! i have many other non music videos too that are interesting!

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 hey bro i wasnt hating on you. i know you like good music. your on this page. and i know that tempo has nothing to do with musicality. well i mean it does..but it doesn't hinder it. i like fast and slow stuff...like you mentioned. tempting time as an example, if that were played slower, it wouldnt make sense. the speed its at is perfect for what he is trying to convey. and saying that you have a better taste in music than me is just childish. how do you know what im into? ;)....

  • @jaretthale78 sorry....i only say that because i don't know any other person in the world that listens to as wide of a variety as i do! i like she and him, the hoosiers, earth wind and fire....crazy shit like mr. bungle, sikth, nuclear rabbit....and then there's the weird like this...../watch?v=tXjilKOyzow then living legends, deltron, common, then tegan and sara, NDK, hallucinogen, 1200 micrograms....but on top of all that is FRANK ZAPPA(RDNZL, and inca roads are my favorite songs...60+ albums)

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 Haha, you don't have a good taste in music just because you listen to lots of music. xD There is lots of shit as well. Music is entirely subjective.

  • @dujl okay, well subjectively i choose love any type of music(NOT every artist, but i listen to any genre) trust me man i went through phases where i was hung up on just one genre, and then i moved to another genre, and then another, and then when i started listening to mr. bungle, that's when i realized that there's much more to hear....you should be more rounded, i don't understand why metal heads listen to ONLY metal....and don't tell me what i don't have, just check out my favorited videos!

  • @904Jags4life What the hell are you talking about man? Lol, how can you be so presumptuous to think that I only listen to metal? I don't believe I've stated that I only listen to metal... I listen to everything that's good.

  • @dujl I AM XXSLAYERXXX666, i'm just singed in on my sisters account...i fucking hate auto sign in....and that is reasonable to assume that since you are watching this music video AND the fact that you said "you don't have GOOD taste in music just cause you listen to lots of music" which made me assume that you are a one genre person....and then you say you listen to everything that is good....well so do i, you just contradicted your own statement that music is entirely subjective!

  • @904Jags4life Music is subjective, but at the same time there are different levels of sophistication and cultivation in music, which some people clearly lack in their repertoires.

  • @PrettyLittleMaggot Except for Gojira

  • Comment removed

  • I own 2 copies. never letting them go!

  • Epic Intro :) Being staked in hell xD

  • thanks for uploading this masterpiece!

  • What are the vocal effects hes using?

  • @Mynameispie66 i might be wrong, but it sounds like he's screaming....

  • crazy music :o :D

  • I can't fathom the mind it would take to create an album this cutting edge. It compares with nothing else nor should it. This album is in a category of itself, just like how The Downward Spiral is, to me at least.

  • Don't buy it anwhere but from Morgan Agren's website. It cost me around 25 USD and came from Sweden in like 4 days. Just go to his merch and search for Sol Niger Within. He did drums on the album.

  • Damn, how does he make that guitar sound?

  • @tiki2188 tube low, or add more strings

  • @tiki2188 take your pinky finger from your picking hand and wrap it around the volume knob, as you play certain notes, roll it back and forth from off and on, the more direct approach, is to make sure volume knob is all the way down, pick the note and "swell" it in with your pinky as to not hear the pick, but the note itself, swelling into the sound. Yngwie Malmsteen and Alan Holdsworth are masters of this technique, as well as Gilbert and a few others.

  • this album is like a trip described in musical form. great piece of music.

  • my mum is a cunt ....id love to slap her in the face....

  • @curryman213 Dumbass

  • The black within

  • Please, let's forget drugs. Mucking about with drugs is a dangerous business because of the capacity for addiction. I'd rather not even try, knowing I'll be OK - I can get my highs from achievement and from some wonderful fresh air (cliched as that sounds) and, if I want an acid trip, I can listen to this weird, wonderful shit =)

  • @EccentricRichard Hallucinogens aren't addictive...

  • So that's why half my friends are addicted to hallucinogens, is it?

  • @EccentricRichard Addicted to hallucinogens? So your saying they have withdrawals if they don't take lsd or mushrooms everyday? What you see as an addiction is probably them exploring their own conciousness and your ignorant so you worry about them.

  • @EccentricRichard No, your friends just have addictive personalities. Not to mention there is absolutely no scientific evidence than hallucinogens are addictive.

  • @philno88 Hallucinogens can be addicictive. Take ketamine for one example. I think psychedelics would be a more accurate word to use there.

  • @TheTasteOfReason That's true.

  • @TheTasteOfReason You're right. Theres a genre of psychedelics thats called "Dissociative hallucinogen" which is the type of psychedelics thats addictive. Dissociative hallucinogenic drugs are ex PCP, Ketamine, DXM etc.

  • @Kafe420 i got so robo and the robotussin one time. got really itchy too it sucked.

  • @zben504 They can be, actually... So can other stereotypically "non addictive" substances, like marijuana etc

  • @whateverman666 Send me a link that isn't on the DEA website and I might believe you.

  • @zben504 What are you talking about? Your comment suggested you were skeptical of an "addiction" to hallucinogens, and the fact is that people DO become addicted to them (tho not nearly as easily as to meth-amphetamines, et al).

What do DEA web sites have to do with it?

  • @EccentricRichard I love how people who have never tried drugs have a "holier than thou" attitude. It takes balls to experiment, and if it's done for the right reasons, and responsibly, the rewards are obvious. Drugs are responsible for more art and science than anyone would like to think.

  • @EccentricRichard That's a great way of thinking. Until you know what an acid trip is I mean, then you might not be as confident regarding fresh air's hallucinogenic abilities.

Having this said, I fully approve of your comment *high five*

  • @EccentricRichard Oh, how deliciously naive! Delightedly, I hope you one day allow yourself to experience that breath of fresh air in a beautiful and safe place with someone(s) you trust whilst your reality is graced by LSD. Mindful experimentation may be rather rewarding, most likely humbling.

Yes, "drugs" (shuddering at sweeping generalization) are NOT to be "mucked" with. Risk reduction through research, trusted AND experienced sources, safe and loving environment: basic "drug" rules. Uugghh

  • @EccentricRichard I agree, Frederick's avante garde playing style is all you need to take one crazy trip haha

  • @EccentricRichard I like your way of thinking. That way there's more drugs for the musicians, and more music made like this.

  • @EccentricRichard People with any brain capacity can do drugs responsibly, it's just that fucktards are the majority and the loudest. The best drugs are all natural and non addictive such as hallucinogenics. Although because of this massive fucktard population, they are highly illegal. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, as they only benefit someone who has a firm grasp of who they truly are and are willing to give up everything they know. In short, fuck DARE yay thinking for self. :)

  • @JBSoloman5k Totally with you man. Drugs whousl be legal..because there would be no bootlegin like with alcohol during prohibition.. and if we think we can ban drugs just for being dangerous, we should ban smokin, alcohol, doing xtreme sports, over eatin, and so on and so on.

  • @JBSoloman5k True true brother! My very experienced broman braught over an eighth of shrooms and I ate half the bag and all the powder... Yes I was tripping my mother fucking balls off but I still had everything under control because Im not a jackass

  • @JBSoloman5k Gotta love how DARE seperates drugs and alcohol from one another.

"Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education" there's honesty for you.

  • @JBSoloman5k I agree with this lol which is why I wouldnt do hallucinogens because i'd be too afraid to let go and end up tripping badly. but for those who have the mind for it, it can be an extremely good thing and every trip could teach new life lessons. its all a learning experience imo.

  • @JBSoloman5k what the fuck? its not like everyone who is an addict is a moron? what about historys great mathematicians/artists/scientists? alot of them were "junkies". While i do agree that the majority of most people are fucktards, theres alot of good smart people with addiction problems and alot of stupid fuckers that propably smoke weed much more responsibly.

  • @Angloth yea.. a lot of geniuses have heroin problems, which is weird, but it's true. I think it is because their analytical, dry, airy, intellectual sides are so incredibly advanced that their more "wet" and emotional natures, found by relinquishing mental authority to the "soul" or subconscious, feels "cut off" and distant.. It's torturous, so they use dope. I am not saying that is the only way to activate soul. It must be said, NEVER TRY HERION!!!!!!!

  • @EccentricRichard but WHY NOT DO BOTH?

  • wat does niger mean in the title?

  • Black Sun Within

  • Niger is black.

  • this the best metal album of all time.

  • this is a Polyrhythmic Masterpiece!!

  • this is better then coffee in the morning

  • Why are we talking about drug use, does it have ANY relevance to this video at all??!

Anyway Fredrik is God on this \m/

  • I enjoy this music. But please stop flooding the comments section with comments that have nothing to do with the music.

  • Drugs is a frivolity.

  • @dujl omg dude nobody cares about your opinion that much, stop flooding the comments section with dribble.

  • I can comment on whatever I want, but that was two days ago and apparently over with.

  • @dujl still applies to the future.

  • Yeah, no fuck you. You wouldn't have said anything if it wasn't for me commenting in the first place, so if you wanna talk about the music, you go ahead.

  • @dujl so is grammar apparently

  • *occasion

  • The only kind I use is alchohol, and it's not healthy at all. But it plays a big part in many social situations, so I guess you could call that a guilty pleasure. I drink on ocassion, but never crave for it.

  • I have no respect for any kind of drug use, whatsoever.

  • Developement of any such interests is detrimental, it won't help you at all. It will only fill your mind with holes and delusions. I want no part of it.

  • YOU ASSHOLE!

  • "WHO ARE YOU, WHY ARE YOU HERE?" no keys no locks no doors..

something something makes me a dull boy lol

  • @MaXaNoMaLoUs The best music always sturs up contraversy... hehe Contra now that was a sick game. did some one say something about junkies?LOL ooops, "no keys, no doors, walls or locks, wing-clipped phoenix, ashes-YOU ASSHOLE"

  • @MaXaNoMaLoUs 5:00

Divine Epiphany of Pyrocatharsis. Internal ascention to skyward domains. Preparation for Rebirth

    -my fav music ever-

  • @MaXaNoMaLoUs 4:48 my bad

  • Who is the vocalist? Is it Jens?

  • Do you mean the scream in the beginning?

I think that's actually Thomas Haake, the drummer of Meshuggah.

  • I want the parts separetley, thanks for this upload anyway... Fredrik rulz.

  • This album is how I discovered Meshuggah. I asked a friend of mine to lend me a CD that he considered to be "good black metal." This is what he gave me. I threw it on and I was just blown away by it. How the fuck does Fredrik Thordendal come up with this shit? It's the most mind-blowing stuff I've ever heard. 10 years later there are parts of this album I still haven't figure out. Fucking astonishing! Incredible! Awesome! Indescribable!

  • Definately kickass music... but this has nothing to do with black metal! Its far superior IMO!

  • I agree. "Good black metal" is how I discovered this, but this album is in a class of its own. Fredrik Thordendal is breaking new ground with this solo project and with Meshuggah. And the album I got was the re-release with the church organ edited out. IMO it's better with the church organ.

  • This is one of the best albums I've ever heard. I can't imagine how does Frederick manage to produce such exotic sounds. I suppose that, appart from being a genious, he knows a lot about musical theory. If he doesn't... he is not from this planet.

  • hahahahaha, I friking love the screaming at the beggining. it cracks me up every time.

  • I just realized the first Beat is a heart beat and then BIRTH child screaming.. a terrible child lol, and then polyrythmic chaotic life music stuff

  • @MaXaNoMaLoUs Is that really what it is or is that just the way u look at it?

  • i think hes right, cause i heard the album is about ife and why were here

  • Comment removed

  • damn, the one i got was just a burnt cd, ive never even seen the actual album, im going to my local record store soon, ill check if they have it

  • @SoadBYOB9 probably won't

  • Tried my damndest....it was impossible for me to find. Even in my local obscure music store. It is on amazon, used was $41 or something like that. New....well alot more

  • @SoadBYOB9

Maybe you'll luck out. But I'm with shanebieda....couldnt find it anywhere, had to go online and it cost $48

  • @SoadBYOB9 I bought my copy in the US fot about $17, but it was V3.33 and it was printed like 2007. O know the first edition's price is blown through the roof, but the newer prints are cheaper.

I believe it costs that much because it really is a milestone in the musical creativity's history and it was a really limited print back in 2007.

  • @shanebieda i suddenly feel blessed that i scored a copy on ebay for 40 bucks lol

  • @shanebieda I bought mine for 15 bucks from the drummers website (I think)

  • @shanebieda i bought one on ebay for 9 euro :D im so happy about that XD

  • @ReberBlopp noice! Wanna send me a link?

  • @SoadBYOB9 Actually, it centers more on alien abductions.

  • @MaXaNoMaLoUs wow, you're right, i never realized that. the polyrhythmic psycho metal could be the wakeful hours in the physical world, and the zeta reticuli and interludes can be the world of dreams, sleep.

  • whats with all the acid heads?

    lol

get a real hobby instead of breaking your brain.

  • Yeah, I know right? Fucking junkies all over Youtube.

  • In moderation and if responsibly done, there's nothing wrong with it. Suppose someone has a real hobby of exploring his mind to its fullest? If you haven't experienced the other side of your mind, you haven't lived to your fullest. Of course if you're too scared of the unknown and too cautious to take risks, don't do it. But stop knocking those who appreciate the potential of thought and are brave enough to go against the grain of society and free their mind instead of playing video games.

  • Who are you to judge my own personal experience? It's all subjective what you value as fullfilling and how you want to live your life to the fullest. I know I won't try any unnatural chemicals just because some people need it for inspiration. And I know it will hurt you in the long run.

Also I like how you try to make drug use sound like something glorious, as "going against the grain of society".

  • @dujl wow i love how you call drugs unnatural chemicals, that sounds more like the OTC drugs, and shit like caffeine, aspartame, and saccharin.....there is nothing unnatural about a plant that you can smoke in it's normal state, now shit like cocaine and opium aren't bad only when you use it the way it was intended, the natural way, when you strip away all the other materials just to get a concentrated form of the chemical, then it becomes dangerous.

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 So you imply that just because it exists in nature that it's a good idea to introduce into your body? Yeah, right, sounds fucking reasonable.

  • @dujl hahaha, DMT exists within your own brain dude, the pineal gland secretes it...but fluoride calcifies it and that's why many people are depressed and have insomnia!

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 It's not proven that DMT is secreted when we go to sleep. Do some actual research. By the way, drugs are pointless anyway. They stir the brain up unnaturally, causing abnormal thought patterns.

  • @dujl Did you ever do any drugs at all? Or are you just talking out of your ass?

  • @jmaguerra I don't have to do drugs to know the effects they have on the brain. Of course I don't do drugs. Only pathetic people do.

  • @dujl You know what drugs do on paper. I'm not saying drug ABUSE is "cool", or that drugs are harmless, or that they're a solution for anyone's problems. But responsible drug use can open some doors of perception.

Seriously man, you shouldn't be so adamant about how drugs are bad without even having ever tried them. One thing is to read a paper exposing the theory of a drug's effects, another completely different thing is to experience those effects.

  • @jmaguerra Yeah, why don't you go experience the effect of blowing your brains out? No loss.

  • @dujl A puff of fine hashish may help you to review your apparently senseless paranoia from a perspective new to your psyche. Even slow, deep breathing without delicious Volcano vapor may allow you, only with your ego's permission of course, to be more mindful of the nature and consequence of your temporally limited gift of consciously guided energy. In stoner words, consider smoking weed and meditating. When one is ready, the plant kingdom has many treasures waiting to "open" and challenge ego!

  • @Hashishinzivape Interesting. Do tell me about these profound discoveries of your intoxicated lifestyle then. Oh, that's right, there is nothing real to be gained from it.

  • @dujl A familiar example we may relate upon: do you ever drink beer after a hard day's work, or simply because it's beautiful? I love beer; you could call me a beer snob and I wouldst smile with pride. When I am overwhelmed by a soothingly satisfactory pint of North Coast Old Rasputin, have I been transported to an unreality? An Idealist might say alcohol has altered my perception of an inviolable reality. However, a Materialist may claim a real change beyond perception. Defend your statement.

  • @Hashishinzivape Yes, I do, and t here is no gain to be had from drinking beer. In fact I know that it's unhealthy and that I could do without it. I think it is greatly beneficial to the individual to avoid being reliant on substances for happiness, because the more you rely on such sources, the less independent you become.

  • @dujl Weren't were discussing reality...now limited to emotion i.e. happiness? While agree with all in the final sentence of your last reply, you've brashly brushed over the relation of perception to reality.

Why has history shown nearly every human culture to employ natural perception altering compounds in rights of passage ceremony, vision quests, etc. How could the pursuit of understanding always parallel the pursuit of happiness? Is individual substance abuse cause for blind prohibition?

  • @Hashishinzivape I am something of a "mental purist". I believe that intoxication signifies a lack of respect for the integrity of one's mind and the natural state of being.

It means that this reality isn't good enough for you, and that you fail to value your own experience and cognition.
