Most pros (or even semi pros) will go for 10 -13 riffle-shuffles, followed by a pile shuffle, then 7 or 8 more riffle shuffles, and then another pile shuffle. Saito actually has a decent amount of speed in his shuffles. His PLAY on the other hand...

Cutting the deck does nothing. They are still distributed. You have to shuffle the heck out of it to randomize the distributed cards.

This is a cheat. Put all your sideboard cards (or whatever you want to have at least one of in your opening hand) on top. Do Saito's "shuffle." Never actually shuffle the top 5-6 cards. At the end, pile sort.  Ta dah: A sideboard card is either in your opening seven or in one of the first two draw steps.

I mean, I can do a riffle and reform / bridge in about 2 seconds, and as I said, that's after a dozen or more years of practice. He's doing a complete riffle and reform at about 0.5 seconds. That is literally light-years beyond me, or most people for that matter.

@ColdGambler not at all. if I were on the Pro Tour and my oppo spent less than a minute shuffling or did less than 7 riffles, I'd take his deck and finish shuffling it for him. Any less is insufficient randomization, which is against the rules. you have three minutes to sideboard and shuffle, and I tend to use most of it.

If you notice, when he shuffled his cards, the same cards never left the top 5-10 ish slots, so that when he pile shuffled the cards were equally dispersed throughout the deck. Idk, that was too short of a shuffle and he tried way too hard to look innocent (i.e. staring at the ceiling and what not). Idk, to me, it looks like something funny was going on and I think he should alter the way he shuffles.

the way hes shuffling is actually illegal, your not allowed to just pile shuffle your deck and then present, u have to rifle shuffle it in between the time that u pile shuffle and the time u present. otherwise u can get a game loss.

His cards are completely randomized at this point: He had no idea what his deck was like before pile shuffling it, so he has no idea what it would be like after pile shuffling it. The rules simply say "Pile shuffling alone is not sufficient" and make no mention of the order in which you have to shuffle.

The issue is it looks like he is double nickle shuffling which is only reversible by a proper shuffle of 6 or 8 piles. Double Nickle Shuffling is pile shuffling in piles of 5 or 7, and puts the card distribution to remove any mana flood or drought, and is considered stacking.

A faro is where the cards are seperated exactly in half and weaved card for card along the SHORT ends of the deck.

Saito's shuffle is not a faro, ask any card mechanic.
