I love it when I see other people of different races (other then chinese) in Hong Kong. It's even more awesome when they speak cantonese! I've seen black and indians, and even some white people in Hong kong that speak fluent cantonese.

For those of you who don't know, there is actually a "brown town" in Hong Kong so seeing Indians speaking cantonese isn't a huge surprise (still a surprise though, but NOT that unthinkable)

Hey, this is my grandma's dialect on my mommy's side.My uncle and her speak in Cantonese most of the time when I go visit them.Even though my mom is not a fluent speaker she can still understand Cantonese so you can tell my mom's side is originated from the Canton province.

Are you supposed to be surprised if you're Chinese born in America and you speak fluent English? What about a Mexican born in America and speaks fluent English? No. Why? Because it's the "official language" of America

hmm i'm a british-born chinese, and my english is actually better than my cantonese XD my parents always referred to indians as 'a-cha', so ive always thought that was the proper term. if it's rude in hk, then what's the correct term for indian in cantonese? and i don't get what the fuss is with indians having chinese names. plenty of chinese people i know have english names. do 'foreigners' think it's weird to see chinese people speak fluent english?

actually, you can't say "a-cha" anywhere, its kinda like calling a black guy a "nigga".. In Cantonese, we just called them "yun doe"..."India"...About the lang. its more exposure than anything else. Most people in the world learn and speak English and English is all around us so its normal. However, when you hear a person from less known country speaking a language from another less known country, it strikes you as odd because is much less common. Cool

and also because they haven't got the typical chinese look and some people, even chinese cantonese speakers, don't expect to see an indian that can speak cantonese fluently, or for some indians with cantonese accent when they speak english. so that's why they find it funny.
