@Webber147 for a lot of people music (and more generally artistic) preferences have a lot to do with what's been called cultural capital...liking a band says something about you. a lot of self-proclaimed "true" fans are mad that KoL went mainstream (partly a conscious move on their part) b/c liking KoL doesn't give them the "insider" status that it used to. as KoL has becoming more cool, they've become *less cool* for liking them. pretty silly stuff, in my opinion, but there it is.
I find it appalling that people can lay blame on a band for being mainstream. I read an interview where I think Matt was asking how you can be a band and not want to be successful and want more people to listen to you. FYI when youth and young manhood came out these guys were instantly mainstream in the UK.

A great point well made. I've been to see them live several ties now and every time is amazing. The reason why is because each time is so different with each album. EVERY single album of theirs can be played from start to finish and is a masterpiece in it's own right. They don't try to conform which is what I like about them, not trying to replicate their previous work and moving with the times. Remember how old they are, a lot of their musical changes is simply due to them maturing as people.

I Agree that all fans is good fans, but i can't say that i like when Sex on fire is the only song they have heard. Even worse when they also like the shit ass band "Tokyo Hotel" as i saw a lot of people in line to the Copenhagen concert 7/7 had. Many of them in the age of 13-16. When the played "Four kicks" it was absolutely quite. No one was aware of that that song even existed?? Nope, i used to love them, especially Aha Shake Heartbreak, and then when eagerlay awaiting their third album I heard the piece of shit that is 'On Call' and was ahocked and lost all respect. It was clear they were simply looking for the big bucks which they got, but had to make your typical popular commercial rock to make it. Make his voice clearer and sing a lot slower, clean up the lyrics and change their image completely.

I like BOTH their old stuff and new stuff aand, I dunno why everyone's rippin on their case so much, people change, their music changes as do the way they dress and look! There'r sooo many bands that change their styles completely with each album, so stfu!

A great point well made. I've been to see them live several ties now and every time is amazing. The reason why is because each time is so different with each album. EVERY single album of theirs can be played from start to finish and is a masterpiece in it's own right. They don't try to conform which is what I like about them, not trying to replicate their previous work and moving with the times. Remember how old they are, a lot of their musical changes is simply due to them maturing as people.

WTF sell-outs!?!? They are enterainers, and if they want to be famous and make good money, their gonna make songs MOST people would like! Not wat just a few houndreds of thousands of people would like, but what millions of millions would like!!!! They got a great fuckin unique style!!! I like all of their stuff both new and old. To compare is pointless because it's all a matter of opinion and besides, this sure won't be their last albums and like all great bands it's good that they can try diffeent stuff. They're still unbeatable for raw energy in their performances.

I was disappointed too. this band could have been awesome. now they're all self-conscious sell-outs who yell at their crowds if they feel like they aren't getting the reception they deserve. im talking of course about the outburst by Caleb at this past year's Reading Festival, where Caleb said "fuck you" to the crowd for not "being the loudest crowd in the world." No class.

to be truthfully honest i only started to like them when sex on fire came out.
but now i do love there older songs better :)
only by the night is amazing, and hopefully the next will be too.
and i am glad that people are embracing and liking kings of leon because they are not a known band. sex on fire was there best single and people love it :)

jeezus some people are so sad, moaning about how they are the true fans because "i knew them from the beginning" ¬_¬ so what if people only started liking them because of only by the night? maybe they just didnt explore music that much but because the 4th album has been so publicised that these people are now aware of how good KOL are!

I Agree that all fans is good fans, but i can't say that i like when Sex on fire is the only song they have heard. Even worse when they also like the shit ass band "Tokyo Hotel" as i saw a lot of people in line to the Copenhagen concert 7/7 had. Many of them in the age of 13-16. When the played "Four kicks" it was absolutely quite. No one was aware of that that song even existed?? All i say is, i cant understand how you can buy a ticket to a consert, and only know 1 or 2 songs at most??

lol to be fair 4th album was probly the worst purely cos of the amount of ballads on it. apart from crawl an maybe sex on fire was asuch a boring album. 3rd is best by miles i rekn. 4th album is too much bon jovi/springsteen snoredome stadium rock for my taste

you cant make a generalisation that people who got into the band on their 3rd or 4th album dont like their older stuff as well. i only heard of them when they released because of the times but i went and bought theyre older albums as well just because i didnt know about them when they first came out doesnt meen im not a true fan

Nope, i used to love them, especially Aha Shake Heartbreak, and then when eagerlay awaiting their third album I heard the piece of shit that is 'On Call' and was ahocked and lost all respect. It was clear they were simply looking for the big bucks which they got, but had to make your typical popular commercial rock to make it. Make his voice clearer and sing a lot slower, clean up the lyrics and change their image completely.
