  • A negro spiritual is the England Rugby's Union song??? how the heck did that happened!?

  • @eiram31 how the heck did your grammar and spelling happen? it's not really relevant is it, it brought us success so it worked

  • @Thejackooooooooooooo My grammar and spelling? What about your punctuation or lack thereof???....pot meet Kettle. Thanks for not answering the question.

  • this song is pretty good

  • This is the worst recording of this song that I've ever heard. Did they forget this song is entirely American?

  • @tomfox05 Yes its so American that its sung in every English Rugby Match for as long as I've been alive

  • @Nooners666 And you've been alive since 1862? It's about the Underground Railroad for fuck's sake.If you are gonna rip off American roots music at least do it well.

  • @tomfox05 it was wrote by an african slave ... i doubt he saw himself as american at that time ....more of an african seen as you americans had kept him in chains

  • @TheTwollocks Yeah, except for the hundreds of thousands that died in order to set him free.

  • @tomfox05 do you like songs sung in ENGLISH ...i hear amazing grace is big in america its virtually your national anthem and guess what country that comes from..now do you see us brits coming on videos of that song saying your stealing english culture and singing the song shit .. you dickheads even put the song to bagpipes .. have you ever heard the english complain fucking no

  • @TheTwollocks Yeah, but that is because we do Amazing Grace wayyyyyyy better anyways.

And my ancestry. Primarily English. Duhhh

  • @tomfox05 so know irish .. i dont mind you yanks singing a great english song

  • @tomfox05 ..by the way its a rugby song .... there not singing it in church ...with a gospel choir and all that bollocks

  • @TheTwollocks It's not a rugby song, it's a song sung by slaves and then christian churches lol kinda weird u guys sing it for sports cuz in the US it's a symbol for the freedom of the slaves.

  • @tomfox05 whats your ancestry by the way .. i know you are american but what country's did your ancestors come from

  • @tomfox05 do you like songs sung in ENGLISH .. and can i ask what your ancestry is

  • WELL done Johnny Wilkinson and enjoy your deserved retirement announced today. And may I say as an Aussie. FUKK YOU as well

  • @Malloyism: Do I detect a bit of jealousy against the man who took the World Cup from Australia in their own country?

  • @reinhardjeep You are a Nob, who do you think you are? you only put that because of 1 word...FEAR! you fear us Brits jujst like the rest of the world!

  • love it when the rugby fans sing this song .live!

  • Who else wishes the England team would take singing lessons and do this upon a stage to show how much they love their country!

  • AAAAAAAAAARGEEEENTINAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! :D

  • @TheRockerman17 lost to england....

  • @xUKxiReaPeR Damn bro I have exactly the same feeling. I am also English, and I am also 17. I have been living in New Zealand for 10 years and I feel privileged to have been able to watch two of England's games live (v Argentina and v Romania). Soon as I can I'm going to get a tattoo of the English rose on my chest. :)

  • Chills, is all I can say. Fucking chills.

  • fuck you englash bastards

  • @MrGazhurley At least spell it right, you cunt

  • @MrGazhurley well done good sir, you managed to misspell "English"

  • @MrGazhurley lmao can't even spell english must be a froggie bastard

  • too bad the chariot went up in flames and the dragon was slayed, now I have nobody to cheer for.I cant bring myself to cheer for france...

  • It's odd to hear that song representing anything in a virtually non-Christian country. Less than 2% of Europeans attend church on a regular basis and I dare say even fewer actually have a relationship with Christ. How in the world did that song get chosen? No seriously, how? It's an old Negro slave ballad.

  • @happycamper8809 The last match of 1988 at Twickenham, England had lost 15 of 23 matches in the 5 Nations Champs. The crowd seen 1 England try in 2 years and at half time they were losing to Ireland. During the second half England scored 6 tries to give win 35-3. 3 of the tries came from Chris Oti, a black player making his debut. A group from the Benedictine school Douai started to sing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, the crowd then joined in. The song is still sung at matches by supporters

  • @NoWarningable thats an amazing story. although it kills me hearing of ireland get slaughtered

  • @happycamper8809 i go every sunday mate mind you when you come from an italian and spanish family your bound to be catholic

  • @happycamper8809: Well if you look around the UK sporting scene there are still hymns to be heard. For example WBA sing "The Lord's my Shepherd", Southampton sing "When the Saints go marching in" and also most British chants are based on hymn tunes.

Besides, England is still a Christian country thanks to the state religion.

  • nice version :)

  • @Gamer5919 The world?

  • Irish Ref wanker ruined the Welsh game fucking paddy mother fucker,

  • ON EST EN FINALE :-) ALLEZ LES BLEUS, ALLEZ LA FRANCE ;-)

  • nah the welsh doesnt stand a chance at all

  • @jimfacebiscuit Still the last British team left in the competition. We're doing it for Britain now mate.

  • @Duty281Returns HAHAHAHA yeah, that didn't happen did it. England's out now. GO WALES GO! ALL FOR THE WELSH YAAAAAA! :)<3

  • @OfficialCornford Umm awkward

  • I respect Samoa, because rugby is their primary and almost only sport for every person. Now, let's support Wales, the play with ambition and hopefully, will beat France. And England ? I will keep my fingers crossed for their good appearances at Six Nations and Euro 2012 in football (not so called "soccer", it's football !)

  • Calm down, guys. Each country has its own good sides. I don't like Germany (hopefully my country will kick their asses in November) and France, but still, England lost 'coz the were weaker that day. and I don't like "american" way of being, but can't you just enjoy great piece of music ? USA would be good at rugby if they focus on raising players because they're big country with a lot of people. They are not doing it, their choice.

  • for some reason I don't hear this being sung to much over the last few days !! I wonder why ? The only fucking chariot you have now is the plane that is "coming for to carry you home"

  • Comment removed

  • friggin pommies are all unwashed stupid dopes.

  • This is a beautiful version of this song but no one can sing it better than the descendents of African American slaves.

  • @poolshark101386 Fuck off you yank cunt. USA (U SUCK ARSE) soon to become china. And you call rugby a faggot sport, how about american football. Bunch off cunts who need protection so they don't get hurt. Can't stand france. no country can stand you!! Death to america

  • @poolshark101386 Keep dreaming. As long as your country keeps playing that awful imitation of a sport you call 'football' you will never progress as a rugby-playing nation.

  • I dont wanna be like american never ever mate!!!!! you people are fucked up big time!!!! check wshh mate sickening!!!! you fuckin free mason , illumina ti, anti-christ motherfuckers.. stay where you are dont come to europa plz.. plz!!!!!!

  • Incredible song!! From france .

  • Waterloo and Agincourt? HaHa - you sad sad man.

  • I was looking forward to an England Wales Semi. Would have been a good match.

  • @EdibleMealman: Bloody frogs. Still at least we have Waterloo and Agincourt over them. They won't win it anyway, England were the only team in with a good chance of beating the All Blacks.

  • Comment removed

  • @EdibleMealman:Judging by their performance today...your Welsh boys would've smashed us!

Ireland beating Australia was a brilliant result for us!

    COME ON ENGLAND!

  • @Duty281Returns Awkward...

  • @MrBluebirdsfc

Well I was slightly drunk when I typed that. 2012 Grand Slam coming our way!

  • @Duty281Returns Haha fair enough.

  • @MrBluebirdsfc

Hope Wales win the RWC now! And I'd never thought I'd say that!

  • @Duty281Returns Just finishe watching it. Fuck my fucking life.

  • @MrBluebirdsfc Same, France wont win. It was the All Blacks cup from the start.

  • @OfficialCable I don't care who get to the final, I just hope it's the team that deserves it. I can't blame France really because they're only trying to win, just like every other team.

  • @MrBluebirdsfc

Hurts me to say this but you played better against France with 14 than we did with 15. Shouldn't have been a red card, I am so sorry, you deserve to be in that final.

  • @Duty281Returns Every person in Wales and I'm sure the world agrees with that last statement. But what's good is that we'll be ready for 2015, the same players with more experience. The dragon is rising.

  • @Duty281Returns Fail.

  • should be our national anthem

  • Love it :p and I'm Irish! England are my second favourite team

  • Love it :p and I'm Irish! England are my second favourite team

  • Rugby is a mans game......enough said

  • I look forward to hearing this against Argentina tomorrow..

    COME ON ENGLAND!

  • @iEnglandUK With that lovely new jersey of yours, I hope you won't hear an English haka...

  • This is also an unofficial national anthem for England.

  • @urbachmilf69

Read my other post for the answer to your comment...

  • @JTB1956

Yeah it orginated in 1988. At half time against Ireland, England were 0-3 down. However during the second half England scored six tries to give them a 35-3 win. Three of the tries came from Chris Oti, a black player making his Twickenham debut. It was sung by the English crowd in honour of him. It has stuck ever since.

  • It's KILT pal Kilt, us scots wear KILTS!

  • Proud to be English !

  • JTB1956 THANK YOU . Paul Robeson had a fine voice and great dignity....I cant imagine him as a gangsta or a hoodie.. I had the greatest respect for him.

  • Why is a negro spiritual the English Rugby Anthem? a tad ironic?

  • @urbachmilf69 Because a group of English schoolchildren started singing it at a match and the song swept the fans around the stadium.

Now don't worry your pretty little head about it.

  • @Silverfox0984 I remember my mother singing this as a lullaby, and have loved it ever since. I'm tickled that y'all sing this. It's a sweet irony that our English friends more often sing an American spiritual than do we.

  • not long now folks, bring it on now in new zealand i cant wait . god bless england

  • C'mon fellas, why argue about England and Ireland taking out the WC. Deep down you know the Wallabies will blow you all away :)

  • Well said, and I'm an Irishman, he's obviously not a real rugby fan, take no notice of the idiots, sing your song loud and proud mate

  • This song was a negro spiritual originally. What do they call it now.I remember Paul robeson.

  • @GODWINSONH You're exactly right...it;s still a negro spiritual, but the phrase is a little redundant. We just call them spirituals now. Bless your heart , I reckon you do remember Paul Robeson.

  • i have to sing a solo of thisfor chorus class :( waaaaaaaaaaaa

  • COME ON ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP :D

  • England for RWC!

  • Awesome !! GO ENGLAND !

  • Ireland, Ireland Together standing tall Shoulder to shoulder We'll answer Ireland's call From the mighty Glens of Antrim From the rugged hills of Galway From the walls of Limerick And Dublin Bay From the four proud provinces of Ireland Ireland, Ireland Together standing tall Shoulder to shoulder We'll answer Ireland's call Hearts of steel And heads unbowing Vowing never to be broken We will fight, until We can fight no more From the four proud provinces of Ireland CMON IRELAND
  • @ruairi995 This is an England video, so take your Irish nonsense elsewhere. I know playing England is your cup final, but to us, you're nothing more than a warm up match so go find yourself a rival who will actually take you seriously.

In rugby AND football, by the way...

  • @iEnglandUK you really are pathetic thinking your all patriotic when your streets are full of rioting scum.

if you want to see patriots come on over.

  • @ruairi995 haha... definition of irony = an Irishman lecturing others about riots. I'm Irish/British btw

  • @Ali74 definition of dickwad=you

  • it hurts my ears eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkk

  • elch hate it

  • rugby is the best sport ever thumbs up if you agree

  • I am a Scotsman and certain songs make me think of certain places. This one makes me feel proud to live in England, Flower of Scotland for home, Land of my Fathers for my Welsh brothers. Don't know what to think of for the Irish, they are more messed up than us Glaswegians

  • @hawickman: All I think of when I hear Irelands Call is of a country that lacks unity until the IRFU tell them they must work together. Personally I also think that they're too biased against those from Northern Ireland by not playing their anthem as well as the Republic's before games.

  • @TheSmithersy the problem is that the Northern Irish do not feel either fully Irish or British. We are a hybrid of the two.. regardless of whether u are catholic (such as myself) or protestant. Northern Irish identity is hybrid.. we are not Irish like those in the south, nor are we British like those in Britain. The disaster that was partition in 1922 created that cultural divergence. It should have been either all or nothing. Personally id like a united Ireland within the UK.

  • @Ali74: I agree with that. I like the idea of Ireland being reunited under the UK that way everyones happy. Ireland would be united so that would please the republicans and it would be under The Crown which would please the Unionists.

  • @TheSmithersy LOL you sad naeive person. I'm English and I know that will never happen..........Glad too.

  • this all anit-were ever your from stuff pisses me off im english n proud n yer we have banter but com on dont need to slag each other of its a song get offer it coz when u came to twickers or we go away from will sing it n have 4 years n will carry on doing it, beside we all sing the same song when we play as the britsh n irish lions dont? rant done carry on

  • This is an African American slave song? or am I missing something? Maybe slaves played rugby in their spare time....

  • @TheWaldonevada nope. englishmen like there anthems, and they usually go overseas in the english rugby union, so what makes you think of home, the iconic chariot, ( britannia is sometimes pictured in a chariot and in the patriotic song jerusalem a chariot is also mentioned.)

  • @TheWaldonevada yeah it is lol but when we used it in the 1991 rugby world cup everyone started thinking that we made the song :S plus i prefer jerusalem that is a proper patriotic english song :)

  • It's when the crowd starts singing, that you realise how brilliant this game is.

No fights, Rival fans get on together with no fuss and everyone enjoys themselves.

  • Beatiful. Im Catholic, we have some of the oldest, latinest and most nonunderstandable music ever in the world!!!

  • @ChronicBlaze93 (in continuation from my earlier post) affrican shithole here and a carribean island there it wouldnt be a pathetic pile of wannabe sweedes. Thirdly you say "you attacked scotland purley for your own personnel gain".. yes we did is that such a bad thing? Seeking to better ones own nation, i dont think so.. anyway you bloody hippocrite norway was constantly attacking scotland. Next you claim we "seek to destroy the scottish race" no we dont. The royal family wear's kilts you stupi

  • @ChronicBlaze93 I assume your comment is sarcastic as.. theres no way you could genuinly mean that. But for the sake of my country's honour i will act asif it were not. Firstly you claim Norway is a "superior country in every way" well lets think about that shall we:Empires:Britain had the biggest in the world:Norway.. no empire because it was too be busy being but-fucked by denmark. Secondly you say we are "evil and vile invaders" well yes we are.. but maybe if Norway had tried invading an -

  • So what, were the people who disliked this our beaten opponents??

  • great song . ub 40 sound good singing it as well

  • this song did not come out because of rugby this song has been around for years .

  • Love When This Is Sang At Rugby, I Would Say Im Proud To Be English But If I Said That I Would Be RACIST.

  • go to the rugby world cup

  • england all the way

  • Believe the Irish won, sir.

  • dubstep remix anybody?

  • One thing that sucks about being Australian:

    No-one sings at the game.

  • @mahlstadt Stick to rugby league....

    Remember remember 2003!! lol ;p

  • @iEnglandUK You sing better than us and you beat us at rugby. You can whip me naked through the streets next. :(

  • This is a song sung by slaves during the underground railroad.....

  • @YertletheTurtle101 yes and as the first Nation to abolish slavery i think it fits rather well with us having to fight Europe for over a millennium to remain independent and to then enslave people as they tried to do to us just didn't seem right and so it wasn't anyhow its a good song just like i vow to thee my country and land of hope of glory also written in bad times the world wars i guess we have a taste for songs in tough times lol

  • @JamesCunnyy no no, that wont do. the englishs are bastards, they came and destroyed scotland as early as 1250s.... even though scotland invaded england first in the 1100s and committed far worse atrocities.... the same as world war 2, those nazis werent so bad you know, those horrible english bombed dresden etc.

  • @hogalog: So many things wrong with that comment.

  • @TheSmithersy you need to get yourself a sarcasm detector mate.
