If it's sold new today, it really needs to operate like it's made today -- not 50 years ago. One makes allowances for any 50 year old bikes but they just don't apply to a bike made last week. Even 50 years ago no new bike could be tolerated if it showed so many flaws from new. For the record, I owned a 1995 500 Bullet from new, put 25000 trouble-free miles on the odometer and sold it three years later with nothing to repair other than a main fuse which conked my Day One delivery journey!
I am not saying that there is a large number of badly built ROYAL ENFIELDS out there but there are enough to be concerned about. They do have a reputation, whether you chose to believe it or not, that ENFIELD INDIA'S quality control leaves a lot to be desired. I have seen many Bullets that have many K's on the clock with no problems but mine is NOT unusual. All I can think is when my machine came down the production line the one in charge of quality control was out the back praying to his gods
That's 8 factory made faults built into the bike. Poorly machined barrel causing oil loss- replaced @ 54kms. Hand print under gloss paint on fuel tank replaced @ 54kms. Broke 4 throttle cables by 10000kms repaired cause myself & by 23000 broke 2 more. Rear tail lense broke & loose from start-still is. speedo very erratic & out by 10Ks & broken @ 12000 ks along with 2 cables. Exhaust dented front mudgaurd when I hit a small pothole @ 8000Ks. Carby often blows off & finally the thrust washer prob
in the first place this machines are made with a 50 year old tech, you can not expect a hondayamahakawa performence. and second you should get a Dirtbike next time Mate.
I see from you profile you say you are 90. It's obvious from your reply you have the mentality of a 9 yr old, for you are incapable of reading simple information without any discernible comprehension. The only thing I did in regards to my Enfield Classic, apart from treating it with the greatest respect in regards to it's use & upkeep, was to buy A LEMON. I ran it in with the utmost of care for 3000km, remembering that the speedo was 10Ks out, I therefore road it @ 10Ks BELOW the maximum.
ALL work on my Bullet was carried out by the highly qualified mechanic I bought the machine off, until the end of the warranty period. I have ridden it to 110kmp/h ONCE. I estimate @ around 10000 km on the clock. Otherwise I vary the top speed between 85 & 95km.75% of the use would be commuting around town. ALL of the problems were built into the machine BY THE FACTORY in INDIA. Do you actually think I pulled the timing case open & put a thrust washer in there JUST SO I could have a problem?
Oye pendejo , que es su problema ? Huevon de mierda!
It's too bad & too sad is it ?? My intention is to warn people about the possibility of buying a lemon like I did & that they should put the maximum number of K's on it before the warranty runs out. The evidence of bad factory practice will only come to light when the victims, like me, are willing to speak about it. How many K's do you have on the clock ? If you're lucky enough to have a trouble free machine, well there ARE lots of shiters.
Yes this is one made in India because there is not other place that makes this bike now days.
The craftsmanship of this bike is comparable to a modern Triumph. Amazing! and the fact that is made in India make the prize as sweet as the bike sound itself. This bikes are legendary to last forever, so if you don't get one you will inherit your dad's bike some day.
Royal Enfields have been exclusively made in India since 1968 when The English factory shut their doors for good. They are NOT made anywhere else. They are a real fun machine to ride, mine is a 2006 model bought new. Unfortunately it has had * factory made faults built into it. The last one the worse so far. A thick thrust washer left in the timing case causing the oil pump to fail & then the bigend to blow. Result; out of pocket $1000 + labour and off the road for WAY too long. BUYER BEWARE.
@kanakaken Yea my dads Bullet Machismo also went out I think it was the starter or somthing of the sort because it started fine and one time he tried to start it while it was on the stand (leaning) and i think sumthing went wrong so its been sitting for a while hopefully its nothing too expensive.
CITIBANCO... A serious footage of a Enfield Bullet 5oo! CLEAN GREAT AD Posters, Beautiful Walk -Around. I WAS'nt Aware ROYAL ENFIELD HAD so many Distinguishing Markers on their Bikes, Good Music-- of a By-gone ERA!
I just want to show how nice and beautiful this inexpensive Machine is, because when I park at any place the people always think I am riding a 20K dollars antique bike. when the truth is that my bike runs under 7K including all the aftermarket parts.
You'd have got away with it if it were not for that electric starter & Suzuki Bandit handlebar grips + switches. The tax disc holder bolts onto the horn mounts on the LH side too. Nice bike though.

I have a Royal Enfield Machismo that's 18 months old, and I love that. Gives really Good mileage(>48Km), and has good performance as well.
The only Modification I've done is put a D type rear mudguard(Chrome).
She is all chrome, and I have seen lotto' head turns when she is on the Road.
All these plastic bikes are really bad to go for. RE is here to stay....

@fly1329 It's called a klaxon horn, like the old cars of the 1920's. There are plenty of manufacturers & suppliers if you want to look them up.
