They only banned DDT in america and outdoor use everywhere else (since it did harm wildwife too much). They stopped DDT completely after the insects started developing a resistance to it. They now use more eco-friendly stuff (testing it anyway).
They banned DDT because of its environmental impact and health risks on humans, not because of its inefficaciousness. It's still used in India and possibly North Korea.
