I shifted from using so many free weights to the Bowflex about three years ago. I am very pleased with it. It's much easier on the joints. I use it two or three times a week and I have gotten great results from it. I'm 63 and built better than most guys in their 30s. No brag, just fact.
i like that post about the competition. i dont have like a degree in any science pertaining to this but only in some very blessed individuals does strength training ever equal looking ridiculously healthy and ill bet that the same goes for actually being healthy.
Dear weight lifters, professional amateur etc. STOP MAKING WEIGHT LIFTING INTO A COMPETITION! I give props TO ANYONE who devotes the time and energy to exercise. I am utterly tired of people making lifting into this big competition. PLEASE do NOT assume that everyone working out is doing it for strength! Don't assume your 'strength goals' are everyone elses! Expert Village, Kudos to you! Don't let these tiny minds infiltrate your happiness!
My plug for BowFlex. I am in my mid-40s and have used free weights for 15 years however too many aches in my joints. Bought a BowFlex classic 8 weeks ago and have been extremely pleased, and have more muscle tone than when I used free weights. Having the most difficulty at the end of the repitition with BowFlex rather than the start as with free weights makes a big difference to me.
I have a bowflex but everytime i use it, i dont see any results and i usually last like 20-25 minutes sometimes 30 when i feel like i need extra minutes.

the proper way to isolate the triceps muscle group is to place your hand in what is customarily known as the karate-chop position. open up a space between the strap and the handle and place the lateral (outside)aspect of your hand in the center of the strap. then do karate chop movements, extending your arm in the same position as described in the video. this will isolate the bicep muscles.
Good video. I have been looking for a video on technique. The book doesn't really do it. Looking forward to some back excersises, these seem to be the most akward.

Imagine doing the one-arm, double-resisted tricep extension, with 410lbs of resistance! That would be insane!
