  • 5 dislikes were from trinidadians

  • realy very good.

I also like that everybody is in tune.

Compliments also for the energy and to the man or woman

    who tunes the lot.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • which five chupid people didn't like this?

  • Hi brother needs to chat a, Asian women busizz4me.info

  • not bad its weird that they chose such a song but hmm that crescendo was mad sloppy. but a nice recording its sketchy in points but i guess it can go.

  • Fabulous. Your band sounds like if you were here in T+T. Keep up your very high standards and thanks for making our Steel Pan #1. Just Great.

  • I dont see whaT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT. These people are complimenting trinidad by playing our music on our instrument. Be grateful!

Well done Fins, you have captured the spirit of Trinidad and have done it well.

Old arrangements that only have value for that particular carnivalshould be seen as just that. there is very little copyright value in that. Once again Finland, well done!

  • Great work Ari and team!!!!!!!

  • hey why dose it not work for me

  • Tears welled up in my eyes and mu throat tightened as I saw / heard this group of young Finns playing the steelband... Wow! how the world has changed! I was one of the first 'female' pan players in the Virgin Islands when I was in high school in 1969. It's wonderful to see a distant country espousing our culture and enjoying it so much! You had me doing the 'jump up! Thank you so much... We are one world, one human soiciety...

  • Love it!

  • WOW!!! When are these guys coming to the interior of British Columbia, Canada?

What an inspiration for school bands! Hopefully many of these young folks will go on to teach this wonderfully alive music to many others.

  • Its a amazing.

  • Finland massive biggup!!!!! Lmao!! Represent Trini real good!!!!!!! Lmao

  • NAH!! Dem is real Trini!!!

They sounding real good the arrangement is top notch.

People from Finland, this from a Trini all yuh good

  • @Bachac88 trini for life man

  • @TheZDLH They are excellent, fantastic execution. They should come down to play, one carnival soon.

  • much respect well done . look out trinis finlanders coming down.

  • I must complement the young Finlanders for the panmanship displayed, but i noticed that the arrangement was credited to someone other than Dr Jit.

This is a cover of Jit Samaroo's (Renegades) 1987 Trinidad and Tobago Panorama competition arrangement. They placed second to Phase II Pan Groove that year.

  • Well of course the credits came to ME as I arranged it. Of course I took Jit's Renegades intro in gratitude, and made it a version of my own. Pan In A Minor was the first ever calypso arrangement I heard and is very important. By the way, did you also notice the part where I did not credit Mozart. Then there is a Montuno part. Please, get the Renegades version score, and listen to MY arrangement , and you will notice that THIS IS NOT a Samaroo cover. Best Wishes Ari the Arranger from Finland

  • @pyrylammikko BRAVO! This is just WONDERFUL! I wish everyone could see this video. As a Trinidadian, I'm really proud of our instrument. Thanks Finland!

  • I"m blown away. Close my eyes and I could be in Exodus panyard. Well done, musicians. Well done Steelpan pioneers!

  • Thank you for your response. I am aware of the work that goes into arranging for a steelband, and I applaud and encourage your efforts.

Steelband arrangers have always borrowed from the old masters and from other genres, but not from each other.Steelbands are competitive, and this is almost taboo.

When arranging calypso for pan,I suggest using the source material, instead of basing your arrangement on another arranger's interpretation. Still, your band's performance was outstanding.

  • Sweet

  • Tremendous! Not only does it sound fantastic, but everybody's got their groove on. Great to see the fun, smiling faces and enthusiasm. Love it!

  • Steel Drums are one of the youngest instruments out there and their influence is spreading all over the world. What started with one person and a cannon ball on a beach is turning into a worldwide sensation. I played my first steel drum, a lead pan, in Alaska years ago and have been hooked on the groovin feel of soca ever since. Respect to you guys. Pan in A Minor isn't an easy piece but you guys pulled it off!

  • wait... where did you hear that Pan started with one person on a beach with a canon ball. Pan did not start that way. Pan started as a result of mixing iron with the playing of tamboo bamboo. It was made with blood, sweat, and tears. men used to die because steel pan. It used to be a bad thing to be in a steel band. It wasn't accepted as a real instrument until they began to play European classical music. Never minimize how pan started. Too many people fought to keep it alive.

  • Really? My prof told the class that so you can see why I would believe him. It was when they were still a british colony and their many forms of celebration became outlawed. I was talking about the evolution of the pan instruments themselves, not the evolution of soca and calypso as a whole, which did start with tamboo-bamboo bands. There are people out there that know WAY more than I on the subject so thanks for letting me know.

  • Really incredible...the pan originates from Trinidad and the Government should invite ths group for Carnival 2010.

  • Great Steel Band!!! Congratulations from Santa Fe, Argentina.

    tenor pan player

  • nice man!!!

  • hoss. dis is by far d baddes kitchener cover i hear YET! das d finland trinis rite deyyyyyyy. respec.

  • oh man! this is great!!!

  • I can not believe my eyes. And they are from Finland. Well done Well done

  • I love them they are good IMPRESSED

    Great Rythum

  • wow i'm really impressed. still convinced there is a trini somewhere in there :)

  • Sounds wicked!!!

Thats as good as any pan band I have ever heard.

    The rythm is great.....

Obviously they are having lots of fun playing too.

Nice to see bradas and sistas kickin it old school.

Had me jumpin up big time, tear up de road!!!

To all the asshat critics, remember these are FINNS, they deserve respect for this.

    Peace

  • I'm very impressed! These young people are talented and appear to be passionate about this art-form. I'm from Trinidad and now live in Canada, but I remember when this song was released. They are in good company! Keep up the great work and keep on playing.

Well done you steele-pan playing youths of Finland! Well done indeed!

    Judy S.

  • There must be a Trini in there somewhere.Lol!Very commendable performance!

  • doh hate.. the kids did a good job.

  • Feb 11 2010 4:00PM Trinidad time, Play Pan in A minor to celebrate Kitch's 10th!

  • awesome

  • that's a funky arrangement! different to the one I played slightly! cool!

  • enough energy dere

still dey should atleast dey should stop jumpin so much...

still sound sounds much different den my pan class at school

    i love it!

  • I don't agree that they should stop jumpin around, the music calls for it and as long as they remain in tune and in time there's no problem showing how much they are taken into the music.

Man, I and all was jumpin around, and I was watching this at work :)

Ok...I know I'm going to receive a backlash for my comment but constructive criticsm is necessary. Your background pans (guitar, cello, bass) are NOT SUPPOSED to play the same volume as your frontline. Also, you don't need to ASSAULT the instrument to get a proper sound. And your percussion instruments are WAY too loud. Sounds like a ping pong band (instrument from which pan originated). Nice try though.

Blah blah.. These guys are great.....

  • you are so right, except for the part of them sounding like a ping pong band...that was just harsh. But I do agree you don't need to beat pan. When more people realise that you can caress some lovely melodies out of these wonderful instruments, music will take an entire new dimension.

  • Jos joku haluaa tietää, olin muuten ihka ensimmäinen "jäsen" kyseisessä bändissä ja olin bändin ensimmäisellä "keikalla" soittamassa peppi pitkätossua vanhempain illassa. Vuosi taisi olla 1990-91? Olin ensimmäinen joka opetteli soittamaan Viitasen Arin itse tekemällä pienellä pannulla koulun musiikkiluokassa Karjaalla. oi niitä aikoja. Onpa kokoonpano kasvanut niistä ajoista.

  • Love it too bad! I like their energy. Classic song and they did a great job on it. Gotta love those crescendos! :D

  • really enjoyed this arrangement,, a classic pan song... talented band...

  • I appreciate that they embrace the steel pan...nuff said! USVI on the page representing

  • jihuu good this rock

  • I think this is really good ... and it doesn't matter if they used someone else's arrangement let me see you do it ... then make your stupid comments

  • Great effort kids. Now all you need are a few "ironmen", a scratcher, an LP Cowbell player and you will be rockin with a tight 'riddum section' :)

    SHJ, NYC

    SHJ, NYC

  • is fine the way it is you moron.

  • my steel band at my school plays this song, though it's not very good, we we just play to enjoy, GO TENOR!

  • Nice adaptation ... Karelia was rockin' almost like Queen's Park Savannah at Carnival !

  • Comment removed

  • Ye it is.. so what? its just for having fun and playing steel pans -.- many ppl steal each others music

  • It's not even stealing, people arrange other people's songs all the time. Not to mention that's where most Panorama songs come from anyway; new arrangements of popular songs.

  • You are wrong. I took the intro from Jit's wonderful arrangement, but if you get yourself the Amoco Renegades arrangement music sheet and follow the score, and you will find that I also ripped from Mozart, and then there is a Montuno part, and a contrapunctual passage in Bach's style. Lots of bandleaders who have heard and played Jit's arrangement on PAM have asked for MY ARRANGEMENT, why? Ari the Arranger from Finland

  • @pyrylammikko Matters not that it is Dr Jits arrangements in the main. The fact thta this band nearly detroned despers In 2004 is testatment to their dexterity and professionalism.

  • @pyrylammikko

A very lovely arrangement that does credit to Kitch's work, and great musicianship by the players. However, maybe I am missing something here. Is there nothing wrong with "ripping" from Mozart, Jit and others and "making it your own" without giving credit where it is due? Or does it go both ways where other arrangers are also allowed to "rip" your arrangements without credit. All it takes is a few seconds....

  • @renetnt dude you Squeel like a Pig, it's Music for God's Sake, the more people get involve the better it is for everyone that's how you discover and learn new things, thanks Fin's i've prob listen to this 50 times good job and i hope you guys are always active ENJOY THE MUSIC Peace..

  • @IRONKREW why reply? You dont agree, then simply ignore my comment thats been here for 2yrs. I play for Renegades and I know my arranger (Jit) music when i hear it. If you like the above music then 'click play' and enjoy the music. But there's no need to reply to me and seek my attention. I'm a grown man so i wont follow in your example of 'childish' name calling. Move on.......

  • @renetnt its not stolen, its public domian sorta, they decided to do it also, ur just a fucked up dude or chick who thinks that only one band can play the song. they got rips from every1 man, u c the way they play, thats trini shit, just chill

  • @TheZDLH then SIMPLY IGNORE my comment if you dont agree. Get over it. I said what I said 2years ago. I said my piece. Move on. Or click PLAY above and listen to the pan. I've removed the comment so you sensitive ppl can FINALLY move on with your lives. Zzzzzzz

  • O my GOD.. I am SPEECHLESS. FINLAND?!?!?! wow.

  • I am really digging those double seconds. Bravo!

  • This group is hot like fire. They are jammin.

  • dammmm i dont want to get racial...but those white kids master the pan!!!!

  • well, have a go, you never know, could be your talent :)

  • This rendition of Pan in A minor is just out of this world. The energy and efficiency used in this song is just awesome. White men can't jump but they can sure PLAY-DE-PAN-MAN. I'm from the West Indies and this group has rocked my boat with their keen and often infinite rhythmic movements.CONGRATULATIONS PAN LOVERS

    LOVE YA

    CARL (CANADA)

  • This is great... A beautiful rendition.

  • After listening to your tune many times, it's really madness. Keep it the good way. Only the introduction is disturbing me, but anyway you got the point and it's good, yeeha. The Jam is nice :)

    Cheers.

  • Really really nice! But if u consider how is important an introduction in a panorama tune, do your own. You have good players, play with that.

I say that because you're arrangement is really nice and I wanted another introduction to fit with your arrangement than Jit's one.

    Best wishes.

  • Good Heavens!!!! SUPER indeed!! And they are from Finland!!

  • Does anyone know where in Finland this was recorded. Is this a college or some other organization?

  • Southern Finland town called Karjaa and school is Karjaan junior high school. Im in that school ^^

  • hey I'm from St. Lucia too. I'm currently studying at Lousiana Tech. Just felt like hearing something from back home. I was pleasantly surprised to watch this clip. some white folks really do have rythm!

  • Greetings from St Lucia. I play for North Stars Steel Orchestra, and find that u handled this piece pretty well! We take part in Trinidad's panorama yearly, and from my experience, this arrangement is in it's own class. You play sweet (dancing while you play, and hardly make mistakes). It's one the best arrangements, (I love the classical part). Keep it up, and I dig the "carrot-top playing the seconds in the blue tees! Keep it up, and rock the world with this one!

  • realy good played, i'm gonna play this song too, maybe next month or something not sure. it's quite good training because if i hear the song before i play it, it's easier for me to play. i hope we win the competition in Germany next year. Moi Moi!

  • vittuyen kevat!

  • Very well done! That is the energy required from each and every performance.

  • great job

  • yey! det här äger! åh va ja älskar det!<3<3<3

  • what else to say?

the band has been great, the band is great!!!!

greets to all of the pan lovers which i know and which know me :-))

    werneriiii....

  • my fav pan song of all time

    BIGGUP

  • i feel good!

  • Great work. I particularly love the energy and passion in your playing. Unlike many big bands I have heard your melody line is clear and well supported. Keep it up.

  • love love love it u guys r great!!! i use to play for my school basically every drum i learned from the master=my friend gabriel..lol but yes i miss its my favorite thing in the world!!!

  • Hyvä hyvä, Jatkakaa vaan samaan malliin! :)

  • i'm digging the big girl in blue at the back :D

  • Very good. Trini owns though, but awesome none the less.

  • yea u guys are good...nice big band...i play for a relatively small band at my school...only 14 of us...2 set of bass..2 set of tenor bass...2 set of cello..2 double second...2 double tenor and 4 tenor

..as little as we are we rock..we played this for a competition here one year...we did justice to it...KUDOS from Barbados

  • This is impressive !!!

Whats the name of this so i can listen to it all the time

  • The song is Pan in A minor, originally by Lord Kitchner

  • I am from Trinidad and Tobago, I am a pan lover and I am VERY impressed.. keep up the good work.

  • I've listen to this arrangement a few times now. I like it, good parts here and there, but it sometimes sounds a bit messy like it's slapped together.

  • Isnt this the SAME arrangement Renegades did in 87 FINALS? Duh.

  • And they did it DAMN FRICKEN GOOD!

  • why are you talking if you don't know.

I have got the CD with the renegades arrangement from 87.

The intro is the same, and a few other bits have been "borrowed," but it certainly is not the same so shh!

  • EBONY... they are alright but they need me in the front line. how do u get involved with ebony?

  • i LOVE this

  • well gues what i am in the first steel pan band in the world, hells gate steel orchestra established 1945

  • wonderful to hear this rendition of pan in a minor. finns are known to be quite introverted, but there was such a verve in this orchestra, it was a marvelous thing. by the way, could i get the intro as a ringtone on my cellular phone?

  • your pretty damn good.i play in steeltempo(no1 in uk)great tune and you all look like your enjoying it.great tune and well played

  • err... sorry to tell you this but ebony is number1 in the uk and has been for the past 14 years and will be 15 years this panorama, so unless you posted this 15 years ago your either lying or very stupid.

  • 123 WHAT AN A**E so youve been invited to barbados for the crop over then? dont think ive seen you there.just because you get a trophy, doesnt mean your the best.maybe steeltempo is more interested in entertaining than winning trophys, get a life

  • you're right, just because we've been won a trophy doesn't mean we're the best. the fact that we've won the COMPETITION to see who's the best 14 times consecutively means we're the best. stupid as$hole.

  • steeltempo would rather spread the sound of pan to the world rather than win a trophy.like i said, ive never seen you at the home of pan, it seems that they would rather steeltempo represented the uk in the crop over than a 14times comp winner.just because you win a trophy ,doesnt mean your the best, ask any liverpool fan when they won europe, they wernt the best in the europe, but they won.

  • whatever you say we always beat you-

you say stelltempo is the best, i say ebony is the best

you say youre the best (again?), i PROVE ebony is the best

you say you spread music to the world, i tell you that ebony has been awarded by HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN, played for trinidad at the WORLD CUP, and has played in EVERY continent except for antarctica. beat that motherfuker.

  • we played at the opening of the comenwealth games in manchester in front of a tv audiance of about 70 million(plus 60,000 in the stadium).obviously the queen and tony blair were there(and becks and his missus too)enjoy your trophys and you never no we might meet up at some pan festival somewere in the world.peace steeltempo

  • ok,ok- i rate you for that, but the queen PERSONALLY awarded us and in germany it was about 83mil so we kinda beat ya there :)plus , you know, the whole "14 times panorama winner " thing.and we probably will meet- next years trini panorama =]

  • Ari, you're doing great. I'm stunned. Incidentally, I'm digitizing old pan photos to launch an archive of pan images: you have any or know who might have?

  • as a panman myself, I commend this band...not one trini in the band and they executed this song with style, grace & excitement...1st class arrangement!

  • Good job - I love that song - It was composed especially for steel pans by the "master" Lord Kitchener.

  • Awesome job on this, guys. It is so great to see pan all over the world. One love!

  • its really nice watching them dance as they play it makes me laugh lol! wish i could play the steel drum

  • it makes me so happy 2 see that my country has made such a positive impact on the entire world and music itself. i play with CASYM here in the United States

  • Ur pretty good. I'm in Sounds of Steel in england. We do this tune, and it rules. U seem pretty clued up. Nice to see another good steel band around!!

  • Love this tune!! Our symphony orchestra is doing a piece with a steel drum sextet. Can't wait for them to be at rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday night)...concert is Saturday! :) Great group!!!

  • You guys have to give Jit Samaroo credit for his arrangement. This was originally arranged by Jit Samaroo for Renegades Steel Orchestra

  • I arranged this for SPL for World Steel Band Music Festival competition in T&T in 2000, The intro variation gives credit to Jit and other Trini arrangers. You can also hear Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven, and flashes of Finnish music. I tune our pans and I've made most of them. Musicians and arrangers around the world have announced that this is the best arr. on PAM they've heard. THIS IS NOT JIT'S ARR. I think you would give credit to me, if you knew how much I have done for the PAN. Ari

  • where the blacks at in this video

  • jackass.they are in finland..why the hell dont you move there..must be from the bush

  • Thats about as cool as it gets. Are the pans all tuned exactly the same? Are the notes on one the same position as on another?

  • they are not tuned the same. Each section of the steel band have different tuning on their pans. tenor pans are tuned in the circle of 5ths (they have C pans and D pans) and I know the cello pans that I play on are tuned in 7th with having B on the bass staff as my lowest note. I have a sneeking suspition that they are not all tuned this way. All the pans are not exactly the same. the notes could be different spots on the pans depending on the maker.

  • Playing a classic like this takes guts and y'all pulled it off wonderfully. And yes your pans do sound sweet!

  • Very cool!

  • I think you guys came to Long Beach back in 2000? Sounds great. Keep it up!

  • Very nice! I'm from T'dad and I'm impressed. Good sound, clean arrangement. Are those Rudy Smith pans, they're nicely tuned.

  • No, they are tuned by me Ari Viitanen and most of them are also made by me

  • i am from trinidad and tobago i think you guys did a wonderful job with that piece, one thing keep your hands a bit lower.use more wrist.

  • U guys kick "Pan" ;) Go to Trinidad and show them, white man can pan :)

  • We were there in 2000 and did it!

  • Yeah man. You guys can handle it. Do yuh ting! Learn some new reggae, and hip-hop - that will tear up the place! Trust me on dat. Trini in Brooklyn.

  • Siellä se Hannakin vilahtaa!!
