  • Shhhh. Be quiet!

  • I can't seem to find your section 4 hooking up USB to the router

  • @infowaredm Sections 4 and 5 are only available on our website. Home PC Builder dot com

  • couldnt you just use a usb wireless adapter instead ?

  • @defbound24 Yes you can use a USB wireless adapter instead of an add-on card. Section 2, Lesson 2 shows how to install a USB wireless adapter.

  • Hey man :D I was just wondering if you could help me? I have recently bought a wireless PCI card for my Desktop. I installed it no problem with the help of your guide. However My desktop doesnt seem to pick it up even after I've installed the drivers, on closer inspection the LED on the back of the card arnt lighting up (No power?) do you think there is a problem with the card its self?

  • @VolvicTwist What model card is it and what model computer/motherboard do you have?

  • Can you help me?

I've just inserted a PCI-card but the PC doesn't start up anymore.

I've also tried another slot but it still doesn't respond.

  • @MijnWet Does the computer start up with the PCI card out of the system? If it doesn't you might have bumped something loose. Try pressing in on all the other expansion cards, memory and power cables. Taking them off and putting them back in is the next thing to try. If the computer does start up with the new PCI card out of the system it could be a bad card or it may be in some way incompatible with your system. What system/motherboard do you have and what model PCI card are you adding?

  • @hpcbdvd I've brought my pc to the computershop and apparantly the PCI-slot maybe had a failure in the past, so when I put in the pci card the mother board had a short circuit and so it crashed.

    :(

  • @MijnWet Well you can just use a USB wireless adapter instead.

  • @hpcbdvd There was nothing wrong with the card itself, But instead i've got to get a new motherboard.

  • @MijnWet I wouldn't spend the money for a new motherboard if the only problem is that the PCI slot doesn't work. You can get the same functionality with a USB wireless adapter for a fraction of the cost. Unless the whole motherboard is now dead. Is that was is going on?

  • @hpcbdvd Whole motherboard is dead :\

  • @hpcbdvd The Pci-slot was already broken but I didn't know that.

  • @hpcbdvd I just got a call from the computer shop.

the motherboard got a short circuit because the power supply was broken.

This is going to hurt my bank :S

  • can you help me?? what kind of wireless card should i buy??

    i have a acer aspire m1830 (desktop)..

  • @bboycrew69 Your computer has a PCI Express 1x slot you could put a wireless adapter into. You could also get a USB wireless adapter.

  • why do you have to install the drivers first ? i mean cant you first install the card then the drivers ?

  • @rrgert4 You can install the card and then the drivers. If Windows does have one built in it will ask for it and then you have to point Windows to the drivers which can be difficult to find. By installing the drivers for you skip that step and it makes the process easier.

  • will windows 7 recognize a d link wlan card ?

  • @rrgert4 It might. It depends on the model and whether Windows 7 has a driver for it. Windows will also try and find a driver online although it might take some time and will need to already have Internet access to do this. Its best to go to the cards makers website and download the driver. You can then install the driver software and then install the card.

  • @hpcbdvd

it didnt make any change, see the problem is , the pc doesnt even recognize the device itself, so basicly it doesnt support windows 7 64bit, even though the drivers do

  • @rrgert4 If Windows doesn't see the card at all I would try the card in another slot. It could also be a bad card.

  • Does it make any difference if i have one of thise USB antennaes or a PCI card like this?

My cousin built a gaming PC for me, and since I asked for a gaming PC he didnt fix me up with a PCI, so I have to use a USB antenna.

  • @hotshot331 The PCI wireless adapter can give you better signal reception and therefore better speeds. They aren't expensive and are easy to put in as you can see.

  • @hotshot331 overall, stick with hardwired connection for online gaming. far superior.

  • hey, i have an old laptop and i just bought a new desktop, can i put the wireless adapter from the laptop inside my new desktop?

^ doesnt know shit about computer building

  • @Flygonair If it connects to a USB port then yes you can just move it over. If the wireless adapter in your laptop is integrated it can't be moved. If it is in a slot on the side of the laptop it can be put in an adapter card and installed into an open PCI slots, but the cost of the adapter would be more than just buying another wireless adapter.

  • can someone tell me if you need this and a network card to connect to a network because i'm trying to build my own computer

  • @DArksidersRockz This is a wireless network adapter you would need if you weren't able to connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable. Just about every motherboard comes with an Ethernet adapter built in so as long as the computer is close enough to the router you can just connect it with an Ethernet cable.

  • @hpcbdvd thank you

  • He sounds like Dave Dave.

  • i wanna hear this guy say: z0mfg gief epix loot

  • ok, so i recenty bought a new wireless card... and i have followed all your instructions to the letter, but, my wirless card will not fit! what should i do, it is different to the one shown in this toutorial, do i need to go out and buy a new one?

  • @lemming171 You may have bought the wrong card type. For internal cards there are two different slots types. PCI and PCI Express. The video shows PCI slots. PCI Express slots are much shorter. Is this what you are seeing?

  • Thanks , again xD

  • what if you install the pci card first?? is that wrong cause i did it and it isnt working.

  • @varun009 You can install the PCI card first if you like, but you then have to install the driver software so the computer will know what it is and how to use it.

  • @hpcbdvd thanks it works now. when the guy at the store assembled my computer he only had windows 7 and i wanted xp, so i decided to install the os by myself at home. then when i installed the driver and restarted my computer and clicked the icon nothing would happen so i turned it off dis and reconnected the wireless network adapternand now it works fine. thanks!

  • could i install a pci card for security cameras?

  • @pcworld88 You might be looking at this backwards. Is there a security camera that requires a PCI card be installed?

  • @hpcbdvd yeah it is provision isr,and i installed a graphics card into my computer pci slot

  • @pcworld88 You need to find out how many PCI slots your computer has? Do you know the make and model of your computer or motherboard?

  • @hpcbdvd i have two pci express slots and i have one pci slot and i have ecs p4m890t-m

  • @pcworld88 I looked up the ecs p4m890t-m motherboard and it has a PCI Express 16x slot, a PCI Express 1x slot and 2 PCI slots. You should have a video card in the PCI Express 16x slot leaving two PCI slots free. Even if you do have a video card in one PCI slot you still have a free one. Can you confirm this?

  • @hpcbdvd look i have a 1 gb nvidia video card in the PCI Express 16xslot and yesterday i installed in a pci slot a video card i dont know exactly what type it is maybe vga card in order to install a cctv camera but im in serious problem now my computer became sluggish and i dont know if you could help me

  • @pcworld88 I would remove the PCI card you just added and see if that clears up the sluggishness. If it does I would contact the card's manufacturer for help.

  • @hpcbdvd i upgraded for a second ram too i have now 4 gb but when i go to computer proberties it shows me this "4.00 gb(3.00 gb usable)

  • @pcworld88 It sounds like you have a 32bit version of Windows installed on your computer. For Windows to see and use more than 3GB it has to be the 64bit version. You can find our series about memory upgrades on our YouTube Channel. Go to our Channel, click Playlists at the top and the memory upgrade series is the first one. It shows you how to upgrade the memory on any desktop or laptop computer. It also explains little pitfalls like the one you found and how to avoid them.

  • @hpcbdvd I have two pci slots and i have two pci express slots and i have ecs p4m890t-m motherboard

  • Helpfull, but I feel like you hate your life

  • can I use my laptops... for my pc?

  • @kommeht00 If you mean use the wireless network adapter you have for your laptop on your desktop PC that depends on how it connects to your laptop. If it connects through USB then yes. If it connects through a PC Card or Express Card slot then no. Unless you get a PC Card of Express Card adapter for your desktop PC but those are more expensive than just buying a new adapter for your desktop.

  • @hpcbdvd that is the answer! Thanks

  • this video was a great help

  • PCI sucks

    ISA forever

  • screw hole......lol

  • @xpodtouch As long as you touch an unpainted part of the computer case before you start working in the computer any static electricity is out of your body. If you live in a high static electricity environment wrist straps are a good idea. Otherwise its just overkill.

  • is that really good? why does it have 3 antennas?

  • @DRJ510 The 3 antennas help to improve reception. This is standard for wireless n adapters. With the older wireless g adapters there is one antenna. Google search for MIMO. There is an article on Intel's site that explains it pretty well.

  • 3 antennas? HOLY SHIT!

  • Thanks man. Helped alot

  • THX MAN HELPED !!!

  • Would you recommend using an antistatic wristband or something similar when installing a PCI card?

  • @Kebert442 If you live in a high static environment its a good idea. For most people just touching the metal case is enough. This released the static electricity from your body.

  • Is it possible to set up wifi with a DSL modem already installed in your PC? Like.. one DSL modem on one PCI slot to hook up all the cables and shit, and a Wireless Network Adapter on another PCI slot?

  • do u have do all this shit or can you just buy an adapter and router n set the adapter to your desktop

  • @joel7341 adaptors like to overheat and slow down alot

  • very helpful, thanks a lot. I'm going to get a pci wireless network adapter too.

  • omg your voice is SO annoying!!!

  • @maxamillion4536 say something original at least

  • if i here it anymore im going to shove a pineapple down your throat!

  • @maxamillion4536 Then stop listening.

  • you wanted a more original reply.

  • @maxamillion4536 Yes. Yes I did.

  • Than you

  • ice job lol

  • thank you, great video, clear instructions

  • there is an internal capture card i want but i have a compiuter with 1 pci, its ocupied with a 30 dollar graphics card, its one of the long inputs, and the capcard is an express pci i belive?....well can it work where my capure card is at at the moment?

  • @M0NT3M4Y0R If the capture card is PCI Express you need an open PCI Express slot to put it in. There are no adapters.

  • @hpcbdvd ok, tnx

  • So do wireless network cards detect and connect to wireless network in a household, or does it create a network signal?

Eg, I want to connect to the wireless network in our house, is this what the card does?

  • @Forthevline Wireless network cards detect and connect to a wireless router. You do still need to have that separate router with Internet access.

  • @hpcbdvd thanks, that'swhat I wanted. :)

  • u dont need this if u just want the wireless router from lesson 1 right???

  • You do need some kind of wireless adapter in each computer to connect to the wireless router. It can be a PCI card, USB adapter or a card adapter on a notebook PC.

  • thanks

  • hey thx for vid helped me a lot on how to install a wireless <8-)

  • U sound like a super nerd.....

  • yep

  • @hpcbdvd Thanks for the vid :D just building my own rig.

  • @HekkyNouri not so much like a nerd more like some one who knows what he is doing and hes very easy to follow and not make a mistake.

  • The*

  • They driver would be included when I buy the PCI card?

  • The driver comes with the PCI card on a CD and you might be able to find a more recent version of the driver on the makers website.

  • I'm using a USB wireless internet connector and thinking of installing a PCI? card since I'm having trouble of keeping the USB in place for it to work. Would it connect the same way a USB connector would?

  • You would need a new driver for the PCI card, either from a CD that ships with the PCI adapter or from the makers website. As far as the software side goes, yes, you would use the same configuration utility built into Windows to connect to the network.

  • is a LAN card different form a PCI adapte? If so, how?

  • PCI refers to the type of interface on the card and slot. A LAN card is also referred to as a Ethernet card and allow you to connect through an Ethernet cable to your network, or a high speed modem. Your computer probably already has an Ethernet port built in to the motherboard, so you may not need a separate card. If you look on the back of your computer, the Ethernet port looks like a slightly wider` telephone plug.

  • Thanks! This tutorial helped me install my PCI adapter. I got another question, when using a tower, does the adaper supposed to be upside down?

  • Yes, the back of the board with all the solder points faces up and the chips are facing down. This is normal. It's been this way since PCI slots and cards were introduced.

  • Thanks again! But I got a problem! My computer is not detecting the PCI Adapter! I got the software but it says when my computer detects it, use the hardrive manager to instal the software.

  • It's probably telling you to go to the device manager. What version of Windows do you have?

  • Ummm XP.

  • Errr.. i'm thinking of buying a PCI Adapter, do u have any suggestion which brand is better than Linksys or is it all the same?

  • The different brands work fine together. If you want to be really safe you could buy the same brand as your wireless router.

  • @hpcbdvd Oh ok, thx for the info.

  • Im deciding on either a usb wireless network adapter or a pci wireless network adapter, any suggestions?? Oh and im using wireless N

  • If you have an open PCI or PCI Express slot and are comfortable installing one that is the way to go. If not the USB option will work fine. You just give up a USB port and you run a greater risk of breaking the adapter since it is outside the case.

  • Ok, thanks for your help :). I'll look into a d-link pci adapter

  • well my issue is i had two in my computer im using now and there was one i wasn't using so i put it in another one that didn't have one

so there was no set up disc

    and it won't work

but when i look into the device manager it shows a wireless network card

but i can't get it to work

it only offers dial up connection that doesn't work and a local internet connection

    no wireless connection

so for now im screwed :\

  • What you need to do it take the wireless card that you don't have a setup disc for out of the computer and look on it for a manufacturer and model number. Once you have that you can download the drivers for the card from the makers website.

  • hm

    ok ill do it

but it's hard to put the side of the casing back on

it's one where you have to slide it back on and it has a white thing you slide down to release it

    its a bad design :D

  • thank you for these videos. there really informative and ive learned alot, but i have a question about choosing a pci card for my desktop. i have a netgear wireless router and i have wpa-psk (tkip) security. does my pci card have to support that security? im a bit confused about pci card compatibility. please help me. thank you

  • Yes any wireless adapter has to support the same type of security the router does. wpa psk is very standard. Any PCI adapter you find will have this support. You can make sure it does before you buy by reading the specifications on the adapter.

  • does the pci card comes with a cd driver ? becuase I have a friend sellin to me for £5 without a cd driver.

  • The drivers do come on a CD when you buy it new. If you know the model number of the card you can always go to the card makers website and download the drivers.

  • I tryed doing this and it didnt work with my Belkin54g network wireless card ???

    help plz ???

  • I'm going to need a lot more information in order to help you. Please send a detailed email of what you're trying to do along with a list of the networking hardware you're using.

  • Thanks dude, and it's so clear

  • i got a big problem i did have windows xp 3 and it haves internet now i downloaded windows vista ultimate and my PCI dont work anymore :S i cant find it

  • It sounds like Vista doesn't have a driver for you PCI card. You need to find the model of the card and then a Vista driver for the card from the manufacturer. Does the card show in Device Manager at least?

  • i have network card and build in network card at my computer with one better to use?

  • It depends on what type of card it is and you situation. Is it wired Ethernet or wireless? If wireless, is it G or N specification?

  • Hey, I installed my D-Link DWL-G510 Wireless G Desktop Adapter, I did excaclty as u showed me, but when I start the computer, It can't find the adapter, what to do? I run Vista :(

  • Try going into the device manager and see if there is an unknown device or a PCI device with a ? or ! on it. It may be that Vista just didn't have a driver for the adapter. Go to the properties of the device and try installing the driver that came with the adapter. If it doesn't work try moving the card to another pci slot.

  • Hey man, it worked, it wasnt just inserted correctly, now its just a new problem, ANY Game I play, I get Lagg spikes, the game stops for like 2 secs then continues, happends every 60 secs..

Never happends on my laptop (Running Vista).

You got any idea on how to fix it?

    Things I tried:

    Remove uneeded apps.

    Firewall Disabled.

    cmd.exe /k netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=yes interface="Wireless Network"

Any idea at all? Please , my dad wont let me play with wire...

  • Is this a freeze as in the video and sound stops? Is it with both online and single player games?

  • No, only when I play online any server, sounds and video stops for around 2 secs, then just continues normaly, happends every 60sec maybe, rly annoying..

  • If it's a particular game it might be a known problem with a fix available. A game patch or a port you need to make sure is open. Do a google search for the game and freeze.

  • It's Section 3 lesson 1. This video is on youtube. The rest of the videos, through Section 5 are on the website listed in the description of this video.

  • hpcbdvd whats next after section 2 lesson 4?? thanks

  • Hey hpcdvd i just bought a new i - pod touch, and since

your able to view the web on it, i was wondering about

getting a wireless connection in the house, but im not

to sure how to go about it, i have a windows xp with At&t internet and it comes with the modem that connects to the phone and internet, but im bot sure to proceed with this problem.

  • Ask ATT if it's also a wireless router. If it is they can help you get your touch connected. If it isn't also a wireless router they should be able to send you a modem/wireless router combo. Or you could buy your own router and connect it to the modem. How to do this is in the videos. See the description for the link to the site with the entire video series.

  • Right. To get full Wireless N speeds you need both a Wireless N router and adapter. You can get a Wireless N router and connect it to your ATT modem.

  • Hey hpcbdvd, I have an Airlink101 300N PCI wireless adapter I had it install and running for about a Month now. It get me good signal and I get 54Mbps. My Airlink can do 300Mbps. How can I get the full speed? Or do I need another wireless router that is capable of 300Mbps, (802.1N Draft router)?? Im using a router AT&T provide with our service.

  • i have mine installed and everything. and i am getting a strong signal. but it will not let me connect to internet. i need help plz

  • If you're connected to your wireless router that is good. You need to also connect a computer close to the router with an ethernet cable and see if you get Internet access from it. If you don't you need to go into the routers configuration and make sure it is set properly for your modem. Section 3 of the videos covers this. Go to our website listed in the description of this video and you will find all of Section 3 and the rest of the videos available for free.

  • thank you. internet works when i plug it in with a router. but i think my modem doesnt send a wireless signal for some reason

  • The wireless signal would come from the router. Have you gone into the router configuration, setup wireless security and then connected to the router with the security key?

  • WAT?? i just brought a wireless pci and do u need a usb with it to make it work or sumthing?

  • No. You need one adapter per computer. It can be USB or PCI for a desktop, or PC Card or Express card for a laptop.

  • wat would u recomend a pci or usb??

  • he can be annoying as hell. atleast he explained everything very easily and answerd my questions I had.

  • Omg. This guy is annoying. I did not get a driver disc for mine where would I get the drivers?

  • What make and model number adapter do you have?

    Regards,

    The Annoying Guy

  • Haha you just sound so smart . Umm idk the model number but i do know it came with my westell 327W modem. Thanks for the help most people that i call annoying do want anything to do with me haha

  • That looks like a DSL modem. You wouldn't need a driver for it. Try watching the videos from the beginning. I can't put the link here. Youtube doesn't allow it but the link to the site is in the description of this video. Basically you need a wireless router to go along with your modem and wireless adapters for each computer.

  • helpful

  • It doesn't matter. As long as you can splay the antennas out, it will work.

  • damn 3 antennas but how do i know wat slot to put it n?

  • bravo

  • helpful
