  • This design is kind of an awkward one to use. I traded mine in for a Cam Caddie SCorpion and I've achieved some amazingly smooth shots with it. Not bad for $38, not bad at all.

  • I just mount my camera to my tripod and hold the tripod

  • I like your design i will try it out.

  • I hope you put a disclaimer on your videos as that fig rig stand post would make a perfect heart spear if someone were to trip and land on it.

  • 14 usd not 15.... from jonny-lee. will cost 80 when shipped.

  • Don't you realise that this ridiculous "circle" absolutely don't stabilize anythig ?

  • 0$ Steadicam from junk

    see youtube

    watch?v=B5FMTjcF2Ng

  • I use the smoothmount and I love it, plus its only $130 in my opinion it works as well as the stedicam merlin. do a youtube search for smoothmount to see it.

  • any ideas on a "mounted" steady cam on a kayak? would you achieve the same stadiness?

  • Muchísimas gracias, me aclaraste mas de una duda. Ya tome nota sobre los dos estabilizadores, voy a construir ambos jeje. Gracias

  • the merlin design works best, you can jump and run with that thing and stil you won't see any shaking

  • Man, you guys are all so ignorant. Yes this works.

Do any of you have a clue about the physics of "steadicam"?

  • i think its not stabilized at all, its almost like holding the camera in your hands. merlin type stabilizer is much more effective

  • @vytas17 labas :D

  • sveikas:)

  • @vytas17 Kiek stebina kai sutinki Lietuvy per youtube komentarus ;D

  • man tai kazkaip iprasta ;D

  • @vytas17 nzn neziuriu as Lietuvisku labai daug video, o uzsienieciu video ziuredamas nesuntinku daug lietuviu.

  • if i go out to take shoot with a tool like this my wife's gonna leave me.

  • vittogol

    loooooooooooool hahahaha

  • u r so dumb josette maria thats cool

  • "... a little more nicer." lol

  • do you have to turn off image stabilizer on camera when using this?

  • not steady !!

  • Kinda defeats the purpose of a Steadycam when they're moving and you're more or less still. I say do it again, but this time walk down some stairs or up a hill.

  • I agree and I've never actually recorded any video myself. I'm trying to find out the physics involved in steadycams because every steadycam I see just seems to me that it would shake even more due to lever action. So I'm wondering how they work. This video simply doesn't demonstrate anything. From the way he was talking, I was kind of expecting him to be chasing the skateboarders down a street or something, what with "steadycam" and all...

  • Basically, by attaching the camera to a rod and weight, the center of mass shifts from inside the camera to a point about halfway down the pipe. If you handle it at the center of mass (which he wasn't really doing) you won't introduce rotation. Also, increasing the mass of the system and distributing the masses far apart increase the inertia of the system and the moment of inertia about the rotation point, respectively, making it physically harder to introduce linear and rotational motion.

  • Thanks so much for posting this helpful movie. Regarding your actual movie production that you post to Youtube, I know you said you use FCP using the h.264 codec in Quicktime, is that what you actually export from FCP, or can you share what format/codec you use to actually save your original movie footage from FCP? Thanks again, really appreciate your hard work! Rich

  • im suprised how good that fisheye looks

  • hay

  • I agree with the person below - these shots are just poor, both. Now I don't know if you just can't use your own thing or is it so lausy itself.

  • wow not very good shots at all!

  • where is the skateboard park at

  • Chandler, Arizona. It is at Snedigar park, which is southern Chandler.

  • be careful whit your camcorder....

  • Look up Bill Myers video on settings for YouTube videos. He uses Sony's Vegas Movie Studio which runs $50-90 dollars.

  • I like your video. It is something that I MIGHT even be able to do.

Can you PLEASE tell me WHAT SOFTWARE you used to get this high of quality on Youtube. NOTHING that I have EVER posted was anywhere near the quality of your video. I use Windows Movie Maker so that might be it. I'm running a MS Vista Ultimate PC with 4 gig of ram.

THANK YOU AGAIN for making a great video, AND for your TIME...

    C.L.

  • I use Final Cut Pro for editing on a Mac. If you use windows you might try the Adobe products, Premiere or Premiere Elements. I think it has a lot to do with what compression you use, and lighting. I compress using H.264 quicktime, and then upload it. If you can get a couple of lights and not just use ambient light it will look better. - You can check out my cheap lighting videos. The lights are from Home Depot with Parchment paper used as a diffuser.

  • lol at 2:14... but this looks really useful. i just bought something like this for $118

  • The problem is videoing skateboarders really doesn't put the cam to the test. You could do that with an ordinary camera. These steadycams do work, but you need to be moving around to see the effect

  • Hi! Great vid men thanks! Hey, I have a question, when you're filming the skater in the blue t-shirt (around 6:25) it looks like you zoom in and out, how did you do that if you're actually holding the steady-cam instead of the directing handling the cam?

    Thanks! =)

  • I bought a zoom controller for the DVX - that is attached to the outer wheel and I can focus, zoom, and control iris. It is nice to have.

  • Pretty neat, thank you so much.

  • is that the skate park in sandiego near the beach?

  • Nope it's in Chandler Arizona.

  • Excellent video! I made one too! I have a video of it on my page. Nice tutorial!

  • If you want to eliminate the third (twist) axis movement, you could probably add a handle with a bearing.

  • You can get pretty much the same results just mounting the camera on a tripod that's folded up and holding it by the neck. No need to carry around extra equipment. :)

  • both designs will require the operator to walk really slow in order to get a steady shot. Because these designs did NOT separate the camera from the angular influences of human hand. A true steadicam requires a 3-axis gimbal to eliminate the angular influences. Check out my steadicam merlin demostration... you might get a better idea.

  • i had a design i made and it didnt work too well. i found the online metal pipe one and shot my two hour film with it. that and a tripod. it seemed to work really well. the steering wheel seems to have its advantages though.

  • but the whole point is too see it in movement!

  • the one with the dumbbell attached had some really nice shots.. only bad thing is u can't really c where youre shooting if u have a small lcd

  • I have a plan to use a digital photo frame (cheap) as an extra monitor that I can attach closer. It really wasn't that bad with the wide angle lens.
