  • bro can you make a video of this e90 device playing youtube on its inbuilt web browser by the way do you still have this phone? please reply as i also have it and it lags while playing youtube

  • E90 has dual CPU, but slower processor than Iphone!

Why don't you try the Iphone vs. Nokia N900, same speed processors.

  • fortaa bulgaria!!!you da best!!

  • buy another e90, or upgrade your firmware, coz i tried those pages on edge an they took less time than your test on e90, i think you have to fix your e90

  • Actually, after upgrading the tiemware it has gotten a little better.

  • Genius, it's because you're using default web browser on E90!!!!

    Ever heard of Opera Mobile???

  • good, but i can see a problem with this. The iphone has a cache that actually saves images and formatting. The symbian browser does not save images or formatting, so on pages you have visited before the iphone will be quicker, however if you visit a said neither of the phones have visited before i think the iphone will still be quicker, but not by much.

  • I had both browsers cleared of everything before the video, I just forgot to show that. It's true about the cache though.

  • In response to the processing power arguement, you can have multiple apps runnin on the symbian with little slow down, so i think it is more of a graphics and formatting rendering problem.

  • I think the multitasking has to do more with the RAM than the processing speed, but the graphics can be to blame as well. It uses the same chip as the N95, which is meant for QVGA screens, so it's gonna slow down when it has to process more than twice the pixels. The optimization for S60 on a high-rez screen could have been better as well.

  • dude it's not the processor makes safari faster. It's the safari software itself is fast.

  • Are you sure? Last time I checked, they run the same WebKit runtime engine. How can you say doubling the processor speed doesn't affect speed.

  • iPhone has 600+ MHz processor, but it runs at aprox. 420MHz.

  • Yes, and the E90 (actually, most recent Symbian devices) runs at an even smaller clock cycle (332MHz) whiile still having to process enough pixels for a 800x352 display, double the pixels of an iPhone.

WebKit makes both run and render fast though, nonetheless.

  • Yea, but it's not 2x less than iPhone as you mentioned in the video.

It's new to me that processor is responsible for graphics rendering. Till now I thought it's job for dedicated graphics chip...

E90 is slow because it's optimalization sux.

  • That might be true throughout the entire OS actually. S60 is meant for lower resolution screens, like QVGA and the weird one they had on the N80 and E70, and when I do load it on the external screen, the pages and the menus do load faster(not not radically, but you can kinda feel it)!

Even if it were about the GPU, the E90 has the same one on the N95... Meaning it's meant for QVGA. The processor still has to.. uh, process the data to something usable as well, so we can't count it out just yet!

  • hello there.,.,., great reviews.,., i would like to know if i can view youtube on the nokia e90,., if not do you like know what software to use

  • You can with a Beta firmware that's floating around, but even if you don't have it, there are programs that get around it, like emTube and Mobitubia.

  • so the iphone is actualy cheeper, _and_ faster then the Nokia E90? i'm a tech person, so i really don't need mst of the things the N E90 can probibly offer as an advantige so i ike the iPhone, but even not considering that, the E90 does not looks like it is holding up well.

  • iPhone is a very good deal in my eyes (if you know how to unlock/jailbreak it), but you have to realize both phones are for different markets. Sure the iPhone can load and render web pages faster than Nokia's communicator because of the faster processor, but you give up battery life in the process. The E90 has easily lasted me from 2-3 days without a charge, but the iPhone can barely get through the day with minimal use.

Great value for the price nonetheless.

  • One thing you didn't mentioned. How many kilobytes the nokia and IPhone loaded for those page. I mean if you used nokia 9500 base browser before, you can save a photo or whole document even if you lost the connection. It's because browser can be configure to load every single thing of a certain page(208kb). That's not the case of all internet browser, such as Operamini that only load a view-only frame of the same page(60kb). If it's the same loading then it's fair comparing.

  • like the video.,., but overall which phone is better in terms of perfomance and practicality

  • They are both great mobiles, but they are meant for two completely different markets. iPhone is great for consuming media and almost feels like a media player more than a phone. The E90 is a made for communications (more robust email, SMS, MMS, phone RF, PIM, etc.), but can also hold it's own when it comes to media.

  • there's an easy way to fix focus.

ps thanks for the test anyway!

  • just a tip: try the demo of opera s60, than e90 beats the iphone again :)

  • I agree with you there, but the newest version of Opera (v 8.65) does not currently work on the E90, (i.e. the Dpad doesn't do anything... at all!)

  • i just figured that out for myself aswell, damn that **** (the reason i didnt notice it before is because i used it on my n95-2 and just a few minutes ago installad it on the e90)

hope that will be fixed in opera 9 (which _should_ be released soon....) cause opera really makes browsing better on my n95

  • Nice video.

  • 724mhz i think

  • Hey man, end-user reviews are always the best. You've saved me from from purchasing the e90 already. I am in desperation for a 3G iPhone. Thanks dude! Consumer power.

  • Glad I could help! There are so many other things the E90 can do other than offering a great web browsing experience, such as PIM, document editing (very nice with such a dense display), and email w/ Exchange support. I wouldn't recommend it for a consumer audience however.

  • what means pim?

  • Personal Information Management. It's stuff like calendars, contacts, to-do's, etc., and how they sync to your work/personal server.

  • ty. do you know if i can install the yahoo messenger on the e90. I'm using now a blackberry phone and i want to buy the e90 and i don't know if i can use the msg on it?

  • There is a free IM client for S60 called Slick. It's still in beta, but its really great.

  • can you compare N95 and iPhone?

  • In terms of web browsing speeds?

  • yea

  • @dimsum05 yea in terms of web browsing speeds, iphone is most likely faster but how much faster?

  • Nice Video Pal

How about a compare with the At&t Tilt :)

  • I actually don't have one, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Tilt could catch up, but PIE would render anything that is not a forum or a WAP site terribly. I could be wrong however
