How much did it cost him to build that. This is the only issue that I have with all this eco friendly, space saving etc architecture. It costs a fortune to build. You probably have to be a millionaire to live like that which defeats the object in my opinion.
Doesn't talk about cost! Looks like it cost a small fortune to set this up in ones apartment. Is it really practical and doable on a mass scale? Would be good, but no likely for the common folk.
@oysterriver2011 Depends on where that apartment is built, in areas where lands is very expensive it is more practical than getting a bigger place to stay, For example an apartment of a similar size (330 sf) would cost a fortune. In areas where land is much cheaper this would be unpracticed.
It might seem amazing to many, but I was 10 when I was imagining things like that. I never had the opportunity to do anything of what I imagined. Not that I'm too damn creative, but I've imagined things, and still do.
It's... frustrating to see things on TV, YouTube... or cars on the streets that have some stupid "new, cool feature" that you thought of way back. I'm the living proof that it's not enough to be creative. It's more important to have good parents, money and/or meet the right people.
Alot of ppl comment never been to HONG KONG and don't really understand the value of space. A place like that would probably cost you a million here. No joke,
Really cool, but seems like it's very impractical. What if you're sitting on the bed and you want a beer? You've got to fold up the bed and move a wall just to get a beverage!
HOLY CARP!!!!!! Another reason to dislike big cities! I'm currently building a 12k sq ft home- very green, efficient, and inexpensive! (It's so big, b/c of the 3k sq ft library, and the fact it is being built for a large family- 6 adults, and lots of chiuldren. Oh- 80% is underground- very cheap to heat!
@mrlearntoread have you really never used a skill you are talented in to benefit yourself? how do you know he isn't helping other people? from the whole video I never got the feeling that he is selfish. I got the feeling that he used a skill he had to make his situation more comfortable. what you are saying would be like me saying: why don't you just give that plate of food you are eating to a poor person. yeah we all should help people more but don't just get on youtube to be an ass to someone.
Now Mr Gary Chang, why dont you apply your selfish luxurious attitude to dwelling in Hong Kong and apply these ideas to help the people who are forced to live in cage houses.
i know you are a local Hong Konger, naturally you only care about yourself. Why not help someone else for a change eh?
If this is what you are advertising as your answer to the problem of housing space then im sorry to say that you are fucked. You have fundamentally misunderstood the meaning of 'dwelling'. Stop masturbating with 3d max and read some Martin Heidegger like a proper fucking Architect.
@moetyman I am thinking the same thing for every video that shows tiny apartments. What if he is sick, what if he needs fresh air, what if he wants to stretch his arms, what if he has to look away to a distance to rest his eyes?
This is because it would take 3 generations to repay the mortgage for a decently large apartment in Hong Kong. By the time your child or grandchild owned the apartment, it may be a hundred years already and had broken down into ruins.
Can't you all just appreciate what this guy has done instead of looking for the smallest opportunity to come down on him and China while you're at it? Who are YOU to talk? Really??
@RegentEstates jajajajjajaaja thanks for that comment lol i think the same some guys love this but i preffer tons of times usa and way bigger spaces than moving my house inside all the time and have at least 2 batrooms :) nice idea but i dont like tiny spaces there is no life
Yes a small home with a flat screen thousands of CD's, all your typical appliances is "green". No its not its called cramped. Nice idea but green it is not.
This space is pretty fantastic. The only thing I don't like is the yellow filter on the windows. I'd much prefer real, natural light (blue-white) than a filtered yellow drab light. I wonder where the bathroom is.
Wait a second. How the f is NYC more dense than Hong Kong. It looks like NYC is more dense than Shanghai and Beijing also. Why aren't these archie kids designing stuff to fit in NYC?
Surely the relative cost of such a design would squeeze out the very people who live in such cheap, affordable housing. What kind of person who lives in this apartment block is likely to be able to indulge in a movie projector? As a concept, its very interesting but I can't see the practical application of this any more than I can see the price dropping.
