@20PhantoM07 its a hump yard...its on a slope so the cars will run down their respective tracks without the use of motive switchers to move them into reclassification for new trains...apparently when the tracks were being switched...someone let the cars go too early, and you get a video like this one here

The coupler on part of the train could have failed, but I am not sure but I think this is a shunting yard, so normally the trains are going pretty slowly. When a train got over the limit by a tiny fraction this is going to happen whether driver error or a true accident. The trains in a shunting yard are usually checked a lot as they do so much work but at a relatively slow pace, so checking them is a lot easier.

Such shunting isn't allowed here in NZ anymore. All movements must have a locomotive attached, and brakes in use on all cars. Cuts down on the chances of this sort of thing happening.
