  • I would hear this on radio stations back in the 1990s when i was a little kid. Why don't oldies stations play this stuff anymore?

  • @classiccarguy93 Oldies stations seem to trail about 30 years behind current music. Unfortunately the "oldies" stations are now changing their names to "classic hits" stations and playing 80's shit. I listen to all kinds of music from the 20's to today but just can't stand the 80's. Anyway, it looks like listening to Last.fm or actual physical albums is the only thing we can do. Cassettes are still 50 cents at thrift stores. Pick em up while you can!

  • 1,697, hmmm thats a pretty high number. Who would guess that there were THAT many tone deaf people in the whole world, let alone on YouTube. Bet it's that darn red dye they been feeding our children. All I can say is, heaven help us.

  • @delora33 You're smoking. 1700 people LIKED this video. It's 11 that thumbed it down.

  • @SvenDansk7 :))))))))))))))))), If I smoked I would agree with you. This is what happens when you spend to many hours with your head in the books, your eyes cross and you make some dumb mistakes. Thanks for pointing it out. (Or, maybe the dyes got to me after all, who knows.)

  • On this date in 1962 {Jan. 27th} "Hey! Baby" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; on March 10th it would peaked at No. 1 {for 3 weeks} and spent a total of 15 weeks in the Top 100!!!

  • this song was the number 1 when my daddy was born, I just found out, I didn't recognize the name so I looked up and as soon as it started playing I started crying. I miss him so much.

  • In what year was this great classic first released?

  • @diuga1 I'm guessing 1962 bc that's when it was number 1?

  • @handsofheaven88 Thanks, HeavenlyHands!

  • @Ampifier1994 Thanks for bringing back a fond memory; trucking down the westside Detroit streets listening to my "6 Transistor" radio with an extra 9V battery in my pocket.

  • Dirty Dancing.

  • baby said no to 10 people

  • i find 10 fools here

  • i'm 15 years old and i like this song better then all the new shitty versions..

  • @BLSAVAGE13 the new "shitty" version is still good even if you like this one too. 99% of the time the new one is played at sporting events, which it is perfect for. put down the hater-aid

  • I miss marching band.

  • The harp in this is amazing. One of the songs that made me want to play.

  • @ouestmatete are you sure its not a cello?

  • Helluva singer.

  • In marching band, this song is an anthem. If the opposite band plays it, our entire band screams along the words :) Memories!

  • @Fearlessly13 We play this as one of our stand cheers. We even had the other team's fans singing along. I love it!

  • @Fearlessly13 our tubas play it and we sing along

  • I love the harmonica part. Great song!!!!!!!

  • Love this song

  • From the first "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack recording (in case you haven't understood, there were two albums out from that movie). First heard years ago over the old WCBS-FM before its format was changed completely from only mainly 60s, 70s and 80s music.

  • Glad they used this in Dirty Dancing, but then Cousin Brucie picked the songs for that one...

  • A special favorite of mine. It was the #1 hit the week I was born. "Hey BABY" indeed.

Plus, the harmonica part was an influence on John Lennon and the Beatles. :)

  • thanks for posting this one....it really conjures up those days of being a teenager...happy days....days when everything was so easy and all the music was enjoyable and listeneable........thank you.....

  • HEY BABY

  • To Sue McCauley, Fort Worth Texas, summer 1962.

  • You can tell by the confident way he sings the song that he knows the answer(to "I wanna know if you'll be my girl) will be yes.

  • I heard this song at the book store haha

  • Thank you so much for so great song. Beautiful memories.

  • Great song I know we all remember very well. Thank you for this post.

  • A #1 hit for Bruce Channel in March 1962. This song is used by many marching bands and pep bands across the country. The harmonica player is Delbert McClinton.

  • I love this song.

  • <3

  • this version is the best not that terrible dj otzi which has become more of a football anthem rather than a great tune. and i`m in my twenty`s so its got nothing to do with old taste. it`s just shit up to this version. period

  • SO good!!! Dirty Dancing:))

  • DJ Otzi has this song also. But the background music is different. And the DJ Otzi version is a common cruise song as its played during many cruise dinners.

  • heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbyyyyyyyyy

  • Man, what an oldie! Thanks for posting.

  • I can't listen to this without a voice in my head saying "Ooh! Aah!" after "Heeeeeey, hey baby!"........God damn you Otzi, you bastard.

  • youtube is not completely useless. a great place to listen to classic tracks. i give youtube a thumbs up.

  • Quite possibly the best/most energetic part about marching band. <3

  • Due to its use as a Dirty Dancing soundtrack, this version still seems to be very popular by today's music fans and club revellers 50 years on.

  • Loveeeeee<3

  • anyone know where i can learn to play this on the harmonica?

  • FOUND ITTTTTTTT

  • The RIT Pep Band plays an amazing version of this song at hockey games..

  • i cant believe some muppet tainted this song with an 'oooh aaaahh'! they shouldn't have let it happen. a generation of people will forever know this as the oooh ahhh song!

  • so fun to sing at games

  • I heard this song in McDonalds! I was surprised and excited because it's my favorite song to play at our football games.

  • Best song from Dirty Dancing <3

  • wow people actually dislike this?

  • Legend has it, that John Lennon's harmonica playin' on 'Love me do' was inspired by Delbert McClinton's playin' on this 1. Billboard's 105th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg yeah, Delbert actualy taught John to play the harmonica

  • love the original soooooooooooooooo much!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • i love the movie flipped since it opened teens to this incredible world of music. for example, myself. i always knew about the music but i was incredibly upset to see what the music/movie industry has become since they have whatever music in the movies and it's frankly crap. but then i watched flipped and heard this song and just completely freaked. <3 awesome. teens. you don't know what you're missing.

  • i am able to listen to the song after 40 years approx. i could never imagine to get this no. i did not know the singer name. thanks , you tube.

  • 5 people won't be my girl.

  • Like many have said here, I played this song in high school marching band. We'd always play it at the beginning of the 4th quarter, and we'd stop playing entirely for the second chorus (except the drumline) and all sing it together. One of my fonder memories of high school is throwing one arm around the shoulders of my friends on either side of me and belting out "Hey! Baby" one more time.

I couldn't ever tell if anyone else liked it, but among us band folks, it was one of our favorites.

  • @Bluepies we play it now and we act like total geeks cause we sing and dance while doing it

  • @Bluepies My school does this too, but I still have to play because the trombones still play the bass line.

  • @Bluepies did you go to mercerisland cause we do it here as well

  • @minecraftscientist, I have no idea where that is. I went to Plano East in Plano, TX. Probably about half the schools in our area played "Hey! Baby." If I had to guess, I'd say the number of schools in the country that play "Hey! Baby" is easily in the thousands.

Which is pretty cool, really. Post-high school, you'll meet people, discover they were in marching band, and you generally ask two questions in this order: "What instrument?" and "Did you play 'Hey! Baby'?"

  • @Bluepies win also plano texas (gives high five)

  • i played this song with my high school band at football games but it was a lot better

  • dirty dancing yes

  • GREAT! WONDERFUL! FANTASTIC!

  • i sang this song with two more females at chick-fil-a . thats why i got to smile when i hear it kuz i sang it with them and the some of the band playing in the background . yea that was two years ago aww

  • Delbert McClinton on harmonica on the original single

  • I remember this and when the Beatles came out with "Love Me Do" everyone got on their case that they stole the music from this. John playing the harmonica in "Love Me Do" when you watch him on film he covers his whole mouth with his hands and people say he didn't really play the harmonica.

  • every time i hear this i get stupid ideas to sing it to my girlfriend but be funny about it

  • I've always wondered if Bruce Springsteen gave this Bruce a nod with "hey baby" at the end of "Dancing In the Dark".
