And she has reason to be confident, as prices for superfine wool, 18.5-micron and finer, rallied in December to their highest rates in nearly 10 years.
At the close of trading on December 16, AWEX's 18-micron southern indicator was at 1618c/kg while 17-micron was at 1774c/kg

Retailers don't want their names and clothing lines associated with the savagery that takes place in the Australian merino wool industry, and as such have chosen to source their wool elsewhere.

In a letter of March 31, 2010 to Australian Ministers, the American Apparel & Footwear Association representing retailers that account for the majority of wool apparel manufactured, imported, and sold in the U.S., made it very clear that Australian wool growers will suffer the consequences of having put their dollars behind the AWI in their foolish decision to continue with surgical mulesing of lambs despite the 2010 agreed-upon target date to switch to bare-breech sheep.

Wool Sales have resumed this week with huge improvement for the New Year.
Melbourne sales have started the year with increases of up to 150 cents clean in VERY STRONG Competition with the wools of 18.5 micron and finer in huge demand.
Sydney Sales resumed today with extreme sales ranging from 100/200 cents clean dearer with the 19.5 micron and finer wools at the higher end of this . Skirtings have had similar results with increases of 80/140 cents.

The price of an orange is at an all time high, too, but that doesn't mean that more people are buying orange juice.
In terms of loss, clothing giant Nordstrom, who launched their own 2009 line of men's merino wool sweaters, decided to source all their wool from outside Australia because merino wool growers couldn't guarantee that the wool was from non-mulesed sheep.
151 Nordstrom clothing stores will not be selling your mulesed wool.

Even the world's largest Australian wool buyer, China's Sunshine Group, who export 60% of the wool from Australia to America and Europe, know the financial losses they will suffer.
"In the last 3 years, increasing requests have been made from our major international customers to provide product made from non-mulesed Australian wool due to the strong pressure of the animal liberation movement. Another CCF flunky talking about PETA kills animals. Of the 11,096 animals brought to PETA in 2009 by a guardian or kind citisen, 8,682 received FREE vet services, including sterilisation, and were taken home.
92,364 shelter animals in Virginia, where PETA is headquarted, were killed last year, 100,000 animals gassed to death in North Carolina, but you don't want to talk about that. Like Jones, you just want to talk about the 2,301 animals for whom PETA provided a FREE and HUMANE release.

The dirty little secret that I don't hear David Martosko talking about is that in 2008, in the state of Virginia where PETA is headquartered, 105,089 abandoned shelter dogs and cats were suffocated to death in gas chambers.

In 2008, of the 10,016 animals who came through PETA's door, 7,525 were taken home by their guardians after receiving FREE sterilization and vet care.
Of the 2,469 animals surrendered to PETA by their guardians, 2,369 were brought in for the FREE and HUMANE euthanasia service that PETA provides to the surrounding communities. 59 animals were adopted and 34 transferred to other shelters.
That is public information.
