I'm sorry, but that is good science turned on its head. The possibility of infinite alternate realities does not mean that an alternate reality earth would pop into our existence with a different version of us. Might as well claim there are gods, magic and fairies too while thinking like this.
@kaosgoblin It is not that this alternate earth would pop into our daily life, its more the concept of such a world existing. That does not mean that humans (on this earth ;)) will ever find this other planet or multitude of planets, it might be so far away that reaching it would take longer than humans existence on (this ;)) earth, but it could be out there, somewhere.
For the story of the film, they fictionally changed reality so that this world happened to be the one closest to earth.
