  • How come they didn't cut away to Stephen Hawkings on vocals?

  • did they cut to a scene from Star Wars at 4:32?

  • Can someone please explain to me what the hell I just saw...

  • best part is 2:20 to 3:00

  • The fuckin' masters !!!!

  • OUTSTANDING! All 80s legends together!!

  • Quando tinha nego bom antigamente ...

  • classic a roland tr606 never played samples its not even plugged in check 1:11 still some cool stuff

  • thi was sick man i love the 80s, im only 18 years old and the music back then was so cool

  • Soooo 80s!!! What would the 80s be without the synthesizer?? Loved this time... is it me who I'm getting old and get nostalgic at these now-gone times, or is it that music now just SUCKS?

  • btw, that's not a tb303 thomas dolby is 'playing' (miming on)........ it's a tr606 drum machine!!! quite clearly there is some seriously stinky miming going on......... ah. the 1980's.....

  • this is awesome lol

  • That's right Thomas Dolby it's nice to see great minds work together. This is so special thanks you sharing. You will never see music made like this ever again.

  • Obama at 4:34 :D

  • I didn't think the TB303 had sampling capabilities...

  • 1:27 That sounds a lot like Genesis " Just a job to do".

  • Why oh why would you interrupt that great groove with that horrible ending? And the synths didn't synch up properly at the end, very sloppy. They should've just let Stevie play all of "Go Home" with the other guys taking solos. Too many chefs, eh?

  • WTF?!! NICE TR606 SOLO!! HAHAHA

    Choad.

  • "Howard Jones, not accepted."

  • the fuck is with that woman right at the end in the audience?

if that even was a woman

  • Aw. Steven J. Hawking sounds sooo young.

  • 4:30 i bet that crazy lookin bitch in the audience was thinkin damn i look good...no one will laugh @ me 25 yrs from now....lol

  • thank u for the post uaioe...damn ive been lookin for this since '85. thanku

  • @neogen50 ain't that the truth. Really enjoyed seeing that...although 25 years later it does seem...primitive. :)

  • @mcgintyman primitive these guys started it all they have more talent in their pinkies than any of the crap out right now all of the crap.

  • 2:42 chorus hook is off the hook...damn these mfukers are genuius i love 'em

  • what the heck is that thing that dolby is playing?

  • @IHaveDimensia It is a type of Memory Moog. Kinda like a small synth

  • @TheDisposableLeader the classic Roland TB 303. pretty easy to identify.

  • @TheDisposableLeader I bet that thing is smaller than my little Yamaha PSS-130.

  • @IHaveDimensia the classic Roland TB 303. pretty easy to identify.

  • Need to have more of these keyboard concerts. Nowdays it's just saxophone and guitars being played.

  • genius

  • I love the Stevie Wonder / Herbie Hancock part in "Phase II."

  • I just discovered this by accident looking for live Dolby clips as well. Tight collaboration, what an awesome keyboard jam! I miss this era.

  • @drfleshworx An all-live performance would've been preferable, but it was cool as hell none the less. Except the ending, very disappointing...

  • very cool video and sound.

  • Tom.this is brillaint !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • There's also a touch of 'What Is Love' by Howard Jones at about 1'27. Amazing, just discovered this by accident while looking for new Dolby live clips. Shame about the crap ending. I didn't know Howard Jones was big in the US, Dolby yes, due mainly to "...Science" which was a novelty record in the UK and hence a flop. This is truly what YouTube is all about, wee gems like this.

  • La actuación está chida, pero eso de acabar con "Star Spangled Banner" es una mamada, especialmente cuando Thomas Dolby y Howard Jones son ingleses ¡irónico!

  • Herbie Hancock shares a birthday with me and my dad. April 12th

  • @BKrystall thnks for that, I'm an April 12er as well and always on the lookout for others. The first space shuttle launched on April 12 and the sextuplets in Raising Arizona were born on the same fine day.

  • Could someone please tell me what songs were combined into this "synthesyzer" jam i know rockit, and she blinded me with science were sampled but what other songs?

  • Stevie Wonder - Go Home

  • wHAT THE FUCK TOMAS DOLBY HAD A FRO??????!!!!!!

  • It's more of a frollet than just a fro.

  • @DraganDrabic It's a wig, he's obviously done up to look like Beethoven?! C'mon dude!!

  • Awesome and weird (clap clap)

  • that was an awesome video until about 3:28 when it all went down the crapper...

  • @jazzfreak11 i thought it was all good

  • @jazzfreak11 yeah man it does kinda go off the rails at that point lol

  • I was there that night. I met Howard Jones at the party afterward and we talked for quite a while. He was a very cool guy. He was a bit shy. I think he was still reeling from his rocketing fame after many years of hard work. I was impressed at how sharp this dude was. It's great to be able to give a good report of someone who made it to the top.

The syncing was done by order of P Cossett Productions to ensure a flawless mix on a "live" performance. The Grammies changed and became just a show.

  • awesome★

  • wow they even had a Fairlight CMI on the stage. too bad the only thing live was Stevie's mic.

  • Very silly. But cute!

  • Is Dolby PLAYING that 303? lol

  • @4ppleseed

I started to wonder if anyone else noticed what he was holding.

  • genius... a real jewel this video!

  • amazing

  • "go home" is such an underrated song!!! Stevie is the man.. this seemed like a good idea at the time but iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii don't know.....

  • @uhsfan99 AGREED. This was one of the best elements of the whole performance, along with Jone's "What is love."

  • That was...

    ridiculous.

I'm sure if it's in a good way or a bad way.

  • I remember seeing this back in the day ! What a treat to have such talent !

  • How the fuck did Howard Jones and Dolby get on the same stage as Stevie and Herbie Hancock? It aint right i tell ya

  • @drfleshworx mate if you think that Jones and Dolby are in the same league as Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder then you're the moron. Howard fucking Jones? You're taking the piss. I really hope so for your sake

  • @fishybishbash First of all, I'm NOT your mate.

Secondly I'm aware that Hancock and Wonder

went a lot further, and I'm a big fan of both artists.

But Thomas Dolby and Howard Jones were

great synthpop pioneers of the day, and totally

deserve to be on stage for this performance, otherwise

they wouldn't have been involved, especially for the GRAMMY

AWARDS! Get it straight, dude and piss off.

  • What the hell's with the ending?

  • thomas dolby. golly

  • Ah...those were the 80's...synthesizers, big hair, and all.

This clip brings me back to the very moment when I watched them perform live so many years ago.

    Thanks for posting this clip.

  • Thomas Dolby in his blog cleared all: all this performance was mimic.

  • Seriously? I was watching that night (and recording the audio on my boombox, sitting in front of the television), thinking how awesome this was!

What did he say exactly? I'm not really surprised... disappointed, but far from surprised.

  • anybody could tell it was recorded. Herbie missed his lip sync cues. stevie was singing live but the dummies couldn't mix his mic right with the recording

  • the end went gay.

    stevie's part was sick though.

  • word.

  • this would be even doper w/o dolby.

  • kick ass awesome

  • Strange... but good!!! :)
