clipping has nothing to do with volume. When you clip you send a square wave to it, which is distorted power. The area under the curve is huge, which is too much "dirty" power. At this time your speakers are clipping outside the pole cooling position, so it can't cool the coil and it will fry.

Also, this system is ghetttttto. Get some real speakers, amps, etc. This is embarassing.

for a grand total of $77 and change i have a set of custom built cabs that would blow these out of the water. and they use 10in subs. and yes contrary to popular belief you can ruin something when you under power speakers, your amp, because you have more than just the resistance of the speaker, you have caps, crossovers, and other components in your speaker that operate within a certain range of powers.

What you got to remember is put thought into what your trading, big doesn't always means better and more watts per speaker dont mean they are gonna blow your mind. Quick Lesson: Id HIGHLY advise you to not hookup all those speakers to that stereo either. Your gonna end up blowing the amp in the stereo! I saw your sub head moving which means your probably peaking them with that unit. I use 4 HUGE DUAL Speaker MTX Towers! I ONLY hookup 2 of them to ONE amp! Just a little advise you might like man!

speakers move to produce sound... The "head" is the cone. The movement of the cone creates pressure creating sound... So a speaker moving is blowing it? My RE sub does around 2" of excursion, thats movement and its being underpowered... And the only way a speaker can be blown by a less powerfull amp is the amp clipping from stress, and ALOT of noobs are creating this thing underpowering blows subs because they got their facts screwed up. So how is the sub gonna blow when its moving?

I use a pretty expensive DENON reciever at home! Its AMAZING. Dont waste money on those 100-250 watt Wal Mart stereos! Just get you a reciever man :) However im a Mobile DJ so my equiptment requires AMPS and all that jazz but with what your wanting to do..GOOD reciever is best! Most have built in AMPS! Goodluck man

theres no such thing as 7 way speakers. also, power handling means nothing if you dont have sensitivity to back it up.

heres an example.

my friend has some floorstanding speakers, they handle 150 watts rms and have 86db sensitivity.

i have some bookshelf speakers (audiophile quality) they only handle 80 watts rms. but, they have 92db sensitivity.

if i gave his speakers the full 150 watts,

my speakers would be just as loud at 36 watts. its all about sensitivity NOT power handling.

you have the crossover going into speakers that cover (1) LOW, (2) MIDS,

(3) HIGHS

a two way speaker would be (1)HIGHS,

they "WAY" is not the number of drivers, its how the crossover is divided among them.

2.5 way speakers have

a tweeter, mid bass, and bass.

the mid bass handles more bass than a midrange and more midrange than a woofer.

its like the best of both worlds.

@cichlidkeeper89 Its about BOTH. Sensitivity is a plus, but that will increase with almost any speaker after the years once it gets really loose. But if you have a speaker with 92db and it only handles 150wrms, thats ok. But its not gonna be louder than a speaker with 86db that can handle 1kwrms.

will put out roughly 119.1 db @ 1M

thats only a 1.6DB difference.

pretty good considering the 92 db sensitivity speaker is recieving 850 less watts.

These speakers are awsome because they are likely pushing 30 or even 40 years, possibly 40 years of high excursion and bottoming out and still pumping out loud bass!
