Tak!!! Dobry utwor. Fuck the britney spears! I am also getting older but this is a insane music. Much better than alll staff today. The "Funkhadafi " is also very good.
@TheRubyG I get where you're coming from, but they're completely opposite colors in the musical spectrum. "Real music" is a totally personal term. EBM and industrial are after specific target audiences, and in this case, Front 242 could be considered the pop of industrial. I remember when I thought my industrial collection was "too dancey" and invested in multilple Nurse With Wound and Coil CDs, but I soon learned that I was just afraid of popular bands.
@noizyme I'm not saying that I hate popular bands because there are some great bands among them and I have a very divers taste of music, but come on!....Britney Spears!?!?
i saw them every time they played Medusa's in chicago from 86 to 88, which seemed like every other week.. am so lucky to have grown up in that place and time and gotten to see 242, ministry, nitzer ebb, new order, revco etc. a few blocks from my house. poor kids today..
Well I Live In a Town Close To The Border to USA And i Saw Depeche Mode Twice, New Order, Gary Newman, Peter Murphy, Pet Shop Boys and Erasure In Concert Not Bad !! HA ??
Idd, Weedytje, proficiat @ whitekudu. Ben verbaasd dat er tussen die bange blanke mannetjes muziekkenners zitten, al vrees ik dat de "uitstraling" er voor meer tussen zit dan de muziek.
First I had a copy of the album 'Official Version' on cassette tape. Later when I got the official version on vinyl I discovered that the tape copy was copied at a slightly lower lower speed. I tended to play the record also on a slightly drop of speed. It made the album more dramatic. LOL
Best Album made, so good in fact that I wore out this song on the album. Does anyone have a relatively new album of this. I would like to purchase it if its the original album and in mint condition. I collect old 80's alternative music
@Polygamma Same here ... first ever live show that I saw. Was on October 10th, 1987 at the Cabaret Metro, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. PACKED sold out house. Wall to wall people. I was stage right and squished against the stage ... will remember the awe that I felt in seeing F242 come out with the mining helmets, high powered hand held lights, and the anti-riot gear outfits. Very cool. Funny thing is that I can pick myself out in the crowd in this video (just briefly during the crowd shots).
Back in 1987 you saw Front 242 as part of this tour? Hmmm.
Reason being is that Front 242 was not able to obtain temporary work permit visas through U.S. Customs back then on the date of this show. They did a gig or two in Canada, then drove to the border between the U.S. and Canada at which point the founders of Wax Trax! Records had driven from Chicago in a U-Haul truck to the border to pick up the band and their equipment and then bring them back across the line into
They did so under the guise of being "tourists" and once they got back to Chicago, they did the gig, packed up their gear, stayed overnight and then headed back across the border (or flew out to Vancouver [if my memory serves me correctly ... I may be in error on this recollection] ).
I don't think that they did ANY other gig in the U.S. as part of the "Official Warfare Tour" during 1987. Once again, due in part to the work visa issues.
Yep. The "Front By Front Tour" took place in 1989 ...
THAT tour was nationwide for sure. ;-)
Glad you enjoyed that show in San Fran way back then. Gotta be some bootlegs of that show out there as I do know there is a live bootleg of the Chicago show at the Metro on May 13th, 1989.
More info via Discogs here:
h t t p : / / w w w . discogs . com/Front-242-Live-In-Chicago-13051989/release/640777
Yeah ... they used the mining helmets and the laser pointers / flashlights for both the Official Warfare Tour (1987) and then the "Front By Front Tour" (1989), just different stage uniforms.
1987's are as you see them in this video (even better in the official "Quite Unusual" video), and 1989's were a bit more "Euro-Industrial" in appearance.
omg I'm so happy you posted this! I have so much of their material on old vinyl, but no turntable. I always wanted to know, what are the lyrics to the chorus?
I bought a VHS of front 242 at Hastings without even knowing what they sound like. This is the video that got me into them. "I'm on the other side. I'm on, I'm on, the other side!"

I always thought it was about Judas and the Hebrews expecting Jesus to be a military leader to lead them to independence from the Romans and their disappointment that he wasn't.
Do you have proof for that origin of "Masterhit"? Im just asking because i´m also really interested in the origin of Masterhit. What are the lyrics about? Who are the "warm little beasts"? CHildren?
depechemode1875, your statement is a big lie based on just gossip, so I'm deleting your comment. Front 242, if any, always had left wing political ideas and they actually got tired of denying pronazism accusations again and again. Just because you're dressed as a soldier, that doesn't make you a neonazi and lyrics can be read in millions ways.
I missed dm1875s comment so I can not speak for his comment. But I never considered Front of being any political wing at all. In Europe you can have left ideologies but at the same time be a democrat - like a sicial democrat or in England you can be Labour, it is left but not any wing. Wing in my opinion is a radical - like a commie or natzi.
As radical as an ecologist can be, Reingur. Richard 23 was a candidate for the ecologist party of Bruxelles, "Ecolo", last year. I didn't mean the group had any radical or antidemocratic ideologies, but, of course, they were not nazis or ultraconservatives in any way.
I agree. I never saw that neonazi connection with these guys. Sure, they used (and use..) some military props here and there but as far as the music goes there's nothing in there to suggest it. I always assumed they were singing and doing music about man in extreme situations and how it affects us. Unfortunately, war and conflicts creates these circumstances so it's natural that this reflects back in the music. But the neonazi rumours are rubbish. I'm not too sure about Feindflug though.. hehehe
I own Front by Front and all the 242 discs. Heck I was listening to Tyranny in the car all day yesterday. So take that into account when I say that Masterhit has always sounded like a B Side Depeche Mode dance remix to me. I'm not trying to get down on 242. but whenever I hear Masterhit I think it's Alan Wilder for some reason.
I respect your opinion but I honestly think Alan Wilder is the more talented party. Wilder wrote the majority of the scores for Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Violator which were are all major albums. Wilder deliberately kept things simple to stay with the Depeche Mode idea. if you listen to his solo work it's much more complex.
PLEASE DONT READ THIS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER IF YOU DONT POST THIS COMMENT TO AT LEAST 3 VIDEOS YOU WILL DIE WITHIN 2 DAYS. NOW UV STARTED READIN DIS DUNT STOP THIS IS SO SCARY. SEND THIS OVER TO 5 VIDEOS IN 143 MINUTES WHEN UR DONE PRESS F6 AND UR CRUSHES NAME WILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS. THIS IS SO SCARY BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKs
I saw them 17 april in Den Haag (Paard van Troje). The power they produced was incredible. Masterhit wasn't my favorite at that time (Agressiva was even more powerfull),
Such a energy! TENDER!!!

Dude....depeche mode would have only dreamed of making music like this.......
ndgarcia2 3 years ago
I respect your opinion but I honestly think Alan Wilder is the more talented party. Wilder wrote the majority of the scores for Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Violator which were are all major albums. Wilder deliberately kept things simple to stay with the Depeche Mode idea. if you listen to his solo work it's much more complex.

This was the "Official Warfare Tour" in 1987.
I saw them 17 april in Den Haag (Paard van Troje). The power they produced was incredible. Masterhit wasn't my favorite at that time (Agressiva was even more powerfull),
but it's still impressive for shure...
