No, this is ridiculous. Pageants do not sexualize any child. And those who think they do are sick. JonBenet was not murdered because she did pageants, she was murdered because of a sick human being who wanted to murder a child. People are idiots!

Children shouldn't think their appearance is being judged at such a young age. Imagine when they go through their awkward-teens, and lose a big part of their self worth when they get acne and all that. And acting cute won't get them what they want when they're older.

Dr Irwin is spot on: it doesn't matter that the girls don't understand the sexual nature of the routines they perform, they're absorbing and normalising this as the *right* way to act.

It was kind of funny watching the pageant mother's histrionics, though.

this crap is so disgusting, it is obvious that this sexualizes little kids in a manner that both puts them at risk physically and pyschologically. even worse it shows these children and distort their views on the importances of looks. I give these kids 15 years til they are gargling cock in their first porn scene or worse end up dead on a corner with a heroin needle in their arm. disgusting misuse and abuse of their children.

This mother can get as angry as she would like. She is living her own dreams and taking her daughters childhood away from her. They have no idea what they are creating and probably won't until the girls reach adolescence! I believe these women are clueless about what they are creating. Nancy is absolutely correct. Just at the end when she herself states that the children don't know.....and the other mother pipes in "other people do though".....proved Nancy's argument against the exploitation.
