  • I read somewhere that Bernard rides maybe a 100 km or so a year, charity events and such.. He's supposed to run a bit, but goes out doing MX with his son.. any event, he doesn't look bad, considering..

  • why do these great bike racers always get piss ass fat. lemond hinault merckx. they have a reputation to keep up. a little self respect. hell im lemonds age and im one fifty. ride all the time eat right. what the hell is he doing? eating at taco bell too much

  • yes it would be nice to see hinault, armstrong, mercx, lemond, ulrich, anquetil, indurain (and maybe some of the old old school riders ) i think mercx and hinualt would simply have destroyed everyone before the race began they were two awesome personalities, but armstrong is damn clever on a bike and i get the strangest feeling that he would have sussed how to beat them. The wild car is fignon, had he kept his form of 83 & 84 he may well have beaten the lot and would be the guy with 5 + tours

  • Yeah he was a legend and the sort of rider who when he said he would win would win... the only dent in his career was when fignon took him in the 84 tour but he was recovering from his knee injury. Hey how many tour winners can boast a bunch sprint win in paris? A hard hard man not afraid to get his hands dirty (remember the striking miners.. him punching the crap out of one guy.. classic)

  • And i thought he hung up his bike for good, what happened to the bet?

    still he was the best

  • apparently as a former world champion you get a lifetime's supply of rainbow jerseys so that you can keep wearing them as your midsection expands.

  • Hinault looks weird on such a modern bike, he should be riding an 80's bike...

  • hinault, lemond, armstrong ?????????????

    merckx you idiots MERCKX

would have crushed the 3 above alhough hinault and lemond deserve credit i seriously doubt armstrong could live with any of the other 3 back when in the golden eras

  • i don't know much french but i can imagine that hinault is saying "sure, greg lemond was a wheel hanging bastard

who never stopped whingeing about me thrashing him day after day - one day

i got fed up with it and said "FUCK YOU" and won the '86 tour just to rub it in!

yes indeed, he was rubbish in comparison to me!"

    vive le retro ;-)

  • Bernard would have put armstrong in his place, back in the day. all the trash talking that armstrong did, bernard would have crushed his ego into smithereens.

  • actually, it often occurs to me that hinault and armstrong are very similar as personalities: they both had this "i'm the boss, we do things my way" attitude toward everything. remember, it was hinault who gave armstrong the "no gifts" line. and if you read interviews with armstrong he finds weird ways of slipping in little nods to the badger -- comparing texan pride with breton pride, etc.

  • Screw Lemond. Ya really want someone to give the tour to him. Yeah he promised and lied. Get over it. Damn, you'd think the Russians stole Mount Rushmore.

  • you really don't understand cycling do you? LeMond should have won the '85 tour too. His team lied to him to prevent him from attacking. I doubt you understand what that means.

  • What you need to remember is that Hinault became vulnerable toward the end of '85, not because he was inherently weaker, but because of his crash in Saint Etienne. Then Roche, who was behind both Hinault and Lemond, started attacking, and Hinault (nose effectively swollen shut) couldn't follow. In that situation Lemond's job was to follow Roche's attacks so that he would take over the lead the gaps got big enough, not to attack Hinault himself.

  • I dunno what they said, but Hinault, you were a backstabbing bastard to LeMond.

  • was he a backstabber or was he just BETTER?!!!! hinault couldn't help himself - no one had legs like his! lemond was great but was afraid of showing his face at the front and FOLLOWED all the moves - you could never accuse hinault of such a thing - he was NEVER away from the front!! how wonderful were the days where the usa had no influence on european cycling whatsoever! vive le retro :-)

  • No yer wrong,Lemond won with all that hi tec crap Bernard did it without, and mumping on about all the crap, his wife too,no wonder lemond pedaled like made,to get away from her
