ok sory to be stupid but what makes Ankara ankara like what kind of print qualifies material to be caled ankara or is it just anything which looks african and is cotton?
Ah my Africans!! na wa o. Until oyinbo/american approve of our stuff thats when it becomes good and "we're proud to be nigerian" ehn?. One day sha we shall have enuff confidence in ourselves.
@Yorubagurl e ku ise o for all the african exposure. Really appreciated :)
very creative styles. ANKARA is indeed the stone that the builders have rejected and as now become the chief cornerstone. We have rejected and neglected it for years. It is affordable and can be use to create beautiful styles. I am very happy nigerians have embraced our own fabric. it makes me very proud.
lol@omolade006...Thanks for posting this, thay are amazing, beautiful, and evrything nice. i am goin to share this on my facebook page, hope you dont mind......hoefully u get more views from it. x
These are amazing! Are there tailors in the state who sew ankara's (specifically in the midwest)? I can just imagine what ridiculous prices they would charge! So where do naija's in the state get their ankaras sewn? I really would like some new ones. These styles are just gorgeous!
@T4Toyin yeah you are right with the ridiculous prices they will charge...you can buy an ankara material costing around $20-30 but the tailor will charge you btw $80-150 to sew it. I just sent at least 6 of the designs on this video to someone in Nigeria to sew a dozen for me lol yeah it's worth it..think about sewing a dozen with dollars about $1000(if not more)
It's better to get it sewn in Nigeria(in nigeria tailors will do more than expected, and they are very creative) or out of U.S lol
@T4Toyin I'm not in the mid-west but I'm sure you can check out the internet (esp Facebook) for tailors. Plus good ankara retailers usually have a tailor or two on hand for their customers.
As per tailors, the really good ones here in MD average $100. I'm talking about the ones that will accurately interpret the more technical styles and make sure the fit is on point. So a fashionable ankara outfit will start at $150 for fabric and sewing.

ultra artistic. Refined, lot more elegant than any armani or ISL, I love it. We have to fill the world with African art fashion. What is ankara?

@T4Toyin These particular ones were sown outside the US but there are tailors all over the US that can meet up with what you've seen in the video.
