Some people are really rude check out her other videos or her on the drum channel or her in her LIVE SHOWS!! She is an amazing drummer and singer and if anyone says she isn't they are just jealous!
I've been a fan and follower of Hannah for a few years now. She is growing as a musician and performer daily and it's fun to watch. A lot of well known drummers (Danny Seraphine, Terry Bozzio, Stanton Moore, Daniel Glass) respect and support her. Seeing her live is a completely different deal than these performances on youtube. Check her out when she is in your area.
Ever notice how anything positive has a user name like "notzj1701" or "aqAQ1z"? Those user names were set up by Dave, her dad. The same guy that poses as her online all the time. He didn't make it himself and wants to push his daughter to the "top" so to speak. Any negative comments on his, oh, excuse me, her account (Jazzhorns = David) are never posted. She can't make it by herself and he will sink her faster than a rock.
Some of you need one of us adults to tuck you in, too? Did some of you actually physically whine as you typed your comments out or was your pacifier securly in place at the time? How utterly sad these comments are. What's interesting is that I've never heard that kind of negativity from anyone but average musicians. And you know why they're average? Because they approach life and music as some of you do and that's just pathetic.
Her father, Dave Ford, is the hype behind the girl. He failed as a trumpet player and now wants his girl to "make it big" in the music world. I appreciate anyone wanting their family to do well. Ripping off a variant of the Soul Train "Peace Love and Soul" tag line and replacing it with "Peace Love and Drums" is amusing. She's not a spectacular drummer. She dropped out of college where she was "majoring" in music. Every decent jazz club in Chicago will not have her back. Jazz drummer, not!
@keefee79 Maybe your right, we should always support each other. The problem here is not that she is good or not, it is the positive discrimination she got. At my point of view any discrimination is bad. And she certainly plays well, but a hand full of people can play that and will never be able to play in a clinic and this because they are guys. Unfortunately this is more a marketing hit than a helpful clinic for other musician.
@carotteaubeurre First off, she's was only 19 when this was recorded--and btw this is a terrible recording that you're solely judging her on. Believe me, I was there and it sounded much better than this. Also second she wasn't the only drummer at the clinic. Regardless of skill level we can all learn something from each other, I think she is very inspiring to kids. If you guys spent as much time practicing as u do tearing people down, maybe you wouldn't feel the need to compensate for something.
@notzj1701 Did you read what I wrote????? And what's your point with her age???? It does not matter if she is 10 or 100 years old. I my point of view, if your an average drummer you should be a spectator and not a clinician.... You see how clearly you did not understand what I wrote. Positive discrimination. The only point that may be right is that she might be inspiring kid. Even that, should she deserve to take the place of other drummer that can also inspire kids too?
@nozjob1701 My only problem is she's obviously playing to a recording. Check out my featured video (from my last clinic) if you want to see how to do a seminar properly. As for practicing, there's really no need once you've mastered your instrument.
Wow. As a community, musicians are suppose to be supportive of & for other musicians. There's so much hate on this page that its disgusting. Hannah, keep up the good work. And, if I'm not mistaken, the audience DID clap at the end of the number.
Why didn't she take all of her endorsement money and set up an actual jazz kit for this performance so it wouldn't sound like crap? and get rid of those gloves!!! And listen to the other musicians on stage!!! she stepped all over that bass solo.
I'm sorry for the NAMM level she is perceived to be on,,,,,this is not happening....I'm not ragging on her however you can go into almost any metropolitan area and find drummers her age (forget the gender) who don't have any of the hype she has that can run rings around her,,,,sorry...this was lame.....

I think Hannah is a great drummer. She's young, but let's face it. She has a great career as a drummer...unlike a lot of us. More power to her! She'll grow...trust me.
What's truly "annoying" is a bunch of punks that probably can't play half as good, ragging on someone like Hannah who is actually out there doing something positive. To all those with the nasty comments, are YOU out there doing high-profile gigs like this? I know you aren't because if you were, you'd know how difficult it is and you'd respect it. And at least Hannah is playing musically... unlike the many clowns out there that can't do anything but play fast double-kick... what a joke!
Honestly even I'm able to do that. It appears as if she's just playing simple rythms with a silly look on her face. I hate to say it, but she's only really getting coverage cause she's a girl. That's annoying.
I think Hanna an Amazing musician. She isn't show boating the hole time but she FEELS THE MUSIC and grooves while keeping perfect time. I think shes very talented and anyone who hates on her should respect her as one of thier own fellow musicians and give her props for doing what she loves.
Isn't it interesting how this person gets an array of comments on her youtubes when the usual family and friends are not in a position to edit the objectively negative ones?
come on ... if this were a guy he would be getting ragged on for not swinging , for sounding stiff , for being totally un-creative .... i dont know man .. i didnt dig it
@sweetfly66 definitely true, however what she might like in the swing dept. is made up for in rock fusion. Personally I was damn impressed with her studio take of her other post Sleight of Hand. Its seems here she took a more old school timekeepers approach to playing, she can kill it though!
From time to time I like to see what she is doing though out the last 6 years or so. It's all the same stuff. She needs to get away from playing blues with old dudes and get in some sort of a marketable rock band or something. She is a good drummer but I think she is spinning her wheels doing what she is doing now. Just my opinion though!
@Vital5150 Agreed , she is a good drummer but I prefer to see real jazz players as Bill Stewart or Peter Erskine is some clinic like this , this video is like .... nothing and please don´t get me wrong .... to me is the same if the drummer is she or he . In fact one of my favorite drummers is Karen Carpenter .
@godzuki444 Agree with you guys. It's also not the girl angle with me. It's just that she hasn't grown while everybody is supposed to chase the press releases. I see people comparing her to Matt Smith all the time because they're the same age and all. But does anyone who is fair about it really want to compare this kid with a mega kid like Matt? He's on an entirely different level.
