This comedy was definitely a lot darker than what I'm used to seeing from him, but it was still hilarious, because like he said in the DVD, he would start a joke dark then bring you back up.

This is definitely nothing like his Vicious Circle or Rough Around the Edges stuff, just a warning to some peeps

The purpose is to be able to go back to the intimate feeling when you just started out. Bands do this kinda stuff a lot--they'll fill up places like the Comcast Center or MSG, but decide to do a more intimate "private" showing with a really small amount of people. Also he mentioned he's been sort of "polluted" (I'm assuming he meant popularity), so going back to what you used to do is a good way to get the real feeling back again.

At this point, the special is just on the audio CD. The DVD that comes with the CD chronicles the journey to the special and offers some wonderful insight into the material. You really see a side of Dane you've never seen before.

The DVD that comes with the CD is a documentary on the evolution of the Jokes, the life experiences that inspired them, and the 30 "Premeditated Acts," that Dane performed at the Laugh Factory in preparation for the special and the tour.

My guess is that part of this comes from critical response to playing huge crowds and that his material doesn't get run through the mills like normal comedians, and he's trying to prove to critics, and himself, that he can still blow away the crowd. From that video, looks good. I praise him for doing something like this because it definitely shows a sense of self-awareness on his part.
