Nope. The net is just a challenge. The rules are that you have to hit the other persons part of the table. The net just makes it harder. You are allowed to it around the net if you want to - if you can it just makes the game easier ;D

@stevema2 well actually DavidKTMS has a point. If you look at the soccer match where Roberto Carlos curves the ball into the goal even tho the ball was going out. It has all to do with the right speed, the right rotation and air pressure. So he is not completly wrong however in this case you just hit the ball on the side which creates side spin.

@kaikaz that wasn't his point. he was saying that the top spin makes it curve. it doesn't unless you make it curve with the side of your racquet which will then produce side spin. soccer is the same way you hit the ball to the side to make it curve in or out and that balances the air pressure and stuff to make it go where you want it to go :)
